I opened my eyes and met Liori’s gaze.
She smiled.
Shall we go on?
Nanites swirled up.

Rubicon planet. A year later
The bunker was located deep underground.
Every object within, every part of its highly sophisticated equipment was comprised of nanites: the product of a top-level Mnemotechnics skill.
Row after row of identical capsules glowed from the inside. The jagged lines of vital graphs meandered across bio monitor screens.
I opened my eyes.
The inside of the capsule stank of medication. The transparent lid hissed, rising and sliding behind the headrest.
Manipulator arms promptly removed countless sensors from my body.
My vision blurred. Still, I soon regained some energy.
I sat up and looked around me, recognizing the room. The neighboring capsules were empty. Had I been the last one to wake up?
I wanted to get up, find some clothes and get out onto the surface but an invisible force held me gently back.

You can get dressed. The elevator to the surface is located down the corridor.
A couple of minutes later, the elevator whooshed me up into the sunlight.
A road went downhill. I walked unhurriedly, taking in chestfuls of the breeze pregnant with strange smells. The sun stood high in the clear skies.
The air blurred to my right where a force shield protected the human colonization zone.
A new group of colonists had just arrived. They looked around themselves without noticing me: the force shield was opaque from their side.
These were the colonists’ avatars. Their hosts were dozens of light years away, on board the Colonial Fleet’s cryogenic platforms. They had no idea of survival in an alien environment but their unfailing belief in the safety of respawn would fearlessly confront any potential threat.
They had a lot to learn.
They still had the Founders’ interface to master. But first and foremost, they would have to learn how to love and enjoy life.
The road turned again, revealing the ocean.
The beach was filled with the happy screaming of children.
From where I stood, I could already see Frieda and Jurgen.
And Arbido! Didn’t he look younger! He must have drained the biological reconstruction chamber dry!
Vandal, Foggs, Novitsky and Ralph stood knee-deep in the water, taking measurements and passionately arguing over something.
Liori sat on the shore. The breeze ruffled her cropped hair. She smiled, watching Charon and five-year-old Inge drawing something in the wet sand.
This was our home for many years to come. We were meant to stay here, waiting for those who were now traversing the depths of space.
Once our colony had grown strong, we could go back to where we’d come from. One day we’d switch our cryo in-modes back on and enter a network address. Earth’s address.
The planet that was still breathing its reactors’ heat.
But that would be a totally different story.

MOSKAU (an alternative history thriller)
The 21-century SS Sturmbannführer Loktev embarks on a crazy and impossible mission. A “trigger agent” of the disaster is on the loose in a world ruled by the victorious allies Germany and Japan. If Loktev doesn’t stop the looming catastrophe, the Nazis might regret they won the war back in 1941.
From Russia’s bestselling science fiction author G. Zotov comes a book which is equal parts alternative history, dystopia and satire. Lovers of Philip K. Dick’s

will appreciate the author’s dry black humor and psychedelic imagination which rule the streets of a post-apocalyptic Nazi-controlled Moscow.
