surfaced

again. She should be more cautious.

They barely knew each other and here she was laying naked face down, waiting for him to do something.

Something. What would he

do?

With his knee, he nudged open her legs. After a long exhale, she let him pull her panties down the rest of the way and off her legs.

“Turn over,” he ordered.

But

she’d

just

gotten

comfortable. And maybe it was better he didn’t look at her face. If she looked at his, it would only be a reminder that this was probably a bad idea.

“Turn over, Emerson,” he

said again.

“No.”

Sighing, he grabbed her hips and flipped her himself. “You’re so stubborn.” He pecked her on the lips.

She almost pouted when he pulled away. She was growing to love the feel of his lips on hers. But he was already distracting her. He ran his palms down the length of her body. She squirmed with a giggle as he passed over her ribs.

He kissed her belly again as he parted her lower lips gently. He found her needy clit and circled a finger around it, making her whimper as the small bud throbbed.

Then

he

moved

toward

her

entrance. She gasped and almost flew off the bed.

“Shh.” He settled her back down with a hand on her hip. “Has it been a long time, pretty girl?” How could she not answer that, with the sexy purr in his voice?

“Yes,” she said, panting.

He moved his fingers along her slit, poking toward her entrance, but not going there yet. “Look at me,” he commanded.

Ignoring him, she stared at the ceiling. If she looked at him, he’d see how vulnerable she was.

He’d see her mess of emotions.

Right now, her face was an open book. And everything she didn’t want him to read was written all over it. Most importantly, how much she was falling for him.

“Come on,” he coaxed,

pressing

his

finger

into

her

entrance, painstakingly slow.

She bit her lip to hold back a moan. She arched off the bed, pushing him in further. Fuck. It’d been too long. Now she was ready to fuck his hand like a needy slut.

She groaned out loud.

“Look at me, Emerson,” he repeated. “You can’t hide from me.

Not like this.”

He withdrew his finger and she cursed. When she brought her eyes to his, he arched a brow in a cocky look.

She made a sound of

frustration and bucked her body, trying to get him to cooperate.

“That’s better.” He smiled then pushed two fingers inside her.

They were so thick, her walls stretched around them, making her cry out. “You’re so hot, little robot.” Chuckling, he pushed in further, until he pressed against her g-spot and she screamed. “Though there’s nothing robotic about you now.”

Was he talking? Why the

hell was he talking? Grunting, she tried to ride his fingers, but he put his other hand on her hip, holding her down. The control he had over her was as exciting and it was unnerving.

“Bad girl,” he teased then smiled.

She had the urge to kick him but figured that wouldn’t end well.

Instead, she waited, nicely, though it killed her a little inside.

The hand on her hip found its way up her body. At her breast, he paused and narrowed his eyes as if he were trying to see through her, deep into her mind. She turned her head away, hoping he didn’t remove his fingers again, the ones massaging that sweet spot, almost fucking her to an orgasm.

He pushed her bra up and over her breasts then placed two fingers around her nipple and squeezed. Softly at first, which only made her whimper a little. Then he pinched hard.

She

arched

up

and

screamed. “Ouch!” It hurt but made wonderful things happen below.

The burst of pain was pure erotic torture and sent a rush of electricity shooting through her body.

“God, you’re wet.” He

pumped his fingers in and out of her, the lubrication making him faster now. “You make me crazy!” Cock. She wanted his cock inside her. She didn’t care how big it was.

“Please,”

she

begged.

“Please, Levi.”

“Mmm. I like the sound of that. Please what, pretty girl?” The fucker. “Inside me.”

He groaned. “I don’t think I
can
wait.” A moment later, his fingers were gone, replaced with something much bigger.

She tried to squirm away when he pressed into her entrance.

It was too big! The stretch hurt, but he pinned her down so she couldn’t move.

“Relax,

baby,”

he

whispered, pausing there just inside her entrance. He smoothed a hand over her head, gently. “You just have to adjust. It’ll stop in a second.”

She

nodded,

mumbling

through

an

apology.

How

embarrassing.

“Shh. It’s not your fault. Just relax.” He pushed in further, forcing her to take it, to take him.

But

she

wanted

to,

desperately. Not just because she needed an orgasm but because it was what he wanted, and for some crazy reason, she was desperate to please him.

“Good girl,” he praised.

“That’s it.”

He was jammed in, as far as

he could go. She felt so full, but in that fullness, there was satisfaction.

Wholeness. Rightness. He pulled out a little then pushed in again, hitting her g-spot, making her yell.

“Fuck!”

He quickened his pace,

pumping in and out recklessly now, panting as he held himself over her, his arms on either side of her head.

Sweat beaded on his skin. His muscles bulged as he anchored himself on the bed and shoved in hard, groaning a little each time. He kept hitting that spot deep inside, making her cry out, over and over.

Without warning, he pulled out and took a step back. “Up.” He gestured to her.

“Huh?”

“Up. I want you to ride me.”

“Fuck no.” Her legs were Jell-o. She couldn’t move, forget leverage her weight over him.

“So stubborn.” Then his lips were at her ear. “Ride me and you’ll come a second time.”

Slowly, she forced her

limbs to move, first pushing up on her elbows, then making her legs hold her weight. Levi sat down on the bed then crooked a finger. Her knees wobbled as she stepped toward him.

His cock stood straight up, ready to impale her. She gulped. He put his hands around her waist and centered her over it, then slowly, pulled her down on top of him.

A loud gasp broke free. Her

hands flew to his shoulders and gripped him hard. He pushed through her barrier and into her channel, already wet but the angle made it more sensitive. He nudged her legs wide open as she straddled him, leaving her feeling so naked and vulnerable.

His mouth descended on her

neck, warm and wet. He kissed and nipped along her collar bone, and up the side of her neck to behind her ear. She squirmed when his bristly cheek tickled her. With his hands on her hips, he encouraged her to move.

She

wiggled,

getting

comfortable, teasing a little. Maybe she’d have control for a while.

When he growled, low and deep from his chest, she knew his patience snapped. Fingers dug into her hips and he pulled her up then slammed her back down again.

She cried out. So much

more powerful this way. He did it again, and pleasure tore through her, violently. Stronger the next time he jammed her onto him. She fell forward, leaning her head on his shoulder, unable to hold herself up anymore. The orgasm ripped through

her,

so

intense

she

screamed. Something pointy dug into her neck, sharpening her senses, making her soar. A bite?

Her body spasmed around

him. Time seemed to stop. She was floating. Was she still screaming?

Her throat hurt, muscles ached. She slowed her breaths, tried to focus.

She was wet with sweat and…other stuff. Somehow, she’d been moved to the bed, on her back, but she didn’t remember doing that herself.

Where was Levi? She didn’t feel him next to her.

Panic hit. She reached out for him. “Levi?”

“Right here.” His hand

found hers and she held on for dear life.

The panic stopped, comfort settled in. A sense of peace. Tired, happy, deliciously sore. Her eyes drifted shut. If this was what having a boyfriend was like, she’d definitely been missing out.

Chapter 13
Breathing

heavily,

Levi

stared at the ceiling, refusing to think about anything past catching his breath. He squeezed Emerson’s hand, finding some comfort there, which didn’t make any sense. Guilt ate at his every nerve. He’d rebounded

on

poor

Emerson.

Someone should kick his ass. She deserved so much better.

Sighing, he shifted so he could see her. She turned her head and their gazes met. There was nothing he loved more than the look of bliss on a woman’s face after good sex. But Emerson was frowning. Frowning? Did she regret this already?

Did he?

No. How could he? She was

so soft, smelled so good, tasted sweet, and kissed like a seductress.

His only regret was possibly making her feel used.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

With a grunt, she pulled her bra back into place then rose from the bed, shakily, and scanned the floor. She grabbed her underwear and put them back on. He watched her sexy legs as she stepped into them, wishing it was summer and he could ogle them any time.

She scoured the room for the rest of her clothing and he was getting the sense she
was
starting to regret this. Unacceptable.

He sat up. “Come here.”

Ignoring him, she grabbed her shirt off the floor.

“Emerson. Come here. Just for a sec.”

This time, she paused and looked at him. She bit down on her lip as if she were nervous. It twisted his gut. Why would she be nervous with him? They’d had a chummy friendship until now.

Maybe she worried they’d ruined it.

Growing

impatient,

he

pushed. “Get your sexy ass over here.”

She responded with an eye roll, but walked to him anyway.

Clad only in her cute bra and underwear, he had to fight back the urge to throw her on the bed and take her again. But now wasn’t the time. Something was bothering her and he needed to fix it.

She stopped in front of him, biting that lip again, driving him mad with the need to kiss her.

Instead, he trailed his finger up her bare thigh, enjoying the smoothness of her skin.

“Why are you in such a rush

to get dressed?” he asked.

She grimaced. Not the

reaction he was hoping for. “Maybe we shouldn’t have done that.” Regret? Crap. It was a blow

to his ego, that was for sure.

“You just had your heart broken. I shouldn’t have let you –”

“Hey.” He pulled her down onto his lap. She sat stiffly at first, but when he hugged her close, she relaxed into him. “You didn’t do anything wrong. And I’m pretty sure I made the first move.”

He pressed his lips against her shoulder and inhaled. Despite being stuck in the car for several hours, then fucked senseless, she smelled clean and fresh. How did girls do that?

“Tell me what all your

tattoos mean.” He shifted her a bit so he could see her face.

One side of her mouth

curved into a crooked smile. “You can’t tell what they are?”

He traced the one on her hip with his fingertip. “This one is obvious.” The pixilated Mario mushroom was sexy as hell placed in such an intimate spot. He’d be happy waking up and kissing that every morning.

Wait. What?

Waking up to Emerson?

Where the hell did that come from?

They may have had fun in bed just now but she was still a surly little smartass.

The sex was…an impulsive

reaction. He’d been angry. Now that he’d taken that out on Em – a dick move he wasn’t proud of – he could think through things clearer.

As far as he was concerned,

he and Hope were over, but he needed a resolution. Closure. After four months, she owed him that. He wanted an explanation and he wanted it face to face, so he could see her when she confessed to her lies, and so she could look into his eyes as she said it. Was that twisted of him? Maybe he should give it up.

What was the point? He wasn’t the type to go after vengeance or anything, so why did he feel so strongly about seeing her? Did part of him hope it was all a misunderstanding?

His head started to spin.

Anxiety formed a tight ball in his stomach.

Emerson squirmed in his

lap, bringing his focus back to her.

Something about her being there, her soft skin against his, calmed him. Maybe it was that pesky projection shit again. Or the fact that she just happened to be there, soft and sweet, and smelling like soap and girly stuff.

“This

one,”

she

said,

bringing her wrist to eye-level, “is a joke.”

He studied the numbers.

127.0.0.1. “I don’t get it.”

“It’s the loopback address to whatever computer you’re using in the moment. It’s sort of like saying, all computers are mine.” He chuckled. “Are you

planning to take over the world?” She gave him a sly smile.

“Something like that.”

They gazed at each other silently.

His

mind

blanked.

Thoughts of Heidi drifted away. For a short moment, he couldn’t think of a single reason to move from that spot, ever. Emerson felt so right, sitting on his lap, giving him secret looks, talking about her tattoos.

“And the one on your

shoulder?” He skimmed his finger across the line of zeros and ones then noted her shudder.

She seemed annoyed at

herself and stiffened up again. He couldn’t hold back a small smile.

She didn’t want him to affect her, but he did. That pleased him.

“It’s the binary code for the number forty two,” she answered.

Just to prove he could, he trailed his finger over the tattoo again, making her shiver and goose bumps rise on her skin. Absorbed in her reaction, and her smooth skin, he mumbled, “Why forty two?” She looked at him over her shoulder. “It’s the answer to life, the universe, and everything.” It sounded familiar but he couldn’t

place

the

reference.

Another hacker joke? “What’s that mean?”

“Douglas Adams.” When he

didn’t respond, she turned to face him fully. “Come on. Seriously?

You’ve never read
The Hitchhikers
Guide to the Galaxy
?” He shook his head. “I’ve heard of it. Never read it.”

“You need to be schooled.

I’ll lend it to you. Remind me when we get back.”

“You mean you’re still

going to talk to me when this is over?” He’d meant it as a joke but when he saw the panic hit her face, he realized what he’d done. He’d just reminded her that they’d gone way beyond a business relationship.

Now she was going to backpedal.

She flew out of his lap and grabbed the rest of her clothes. “We should go eat.”

He sighed, but decided not to push things for now. She was already panicking. He didn’t want her to shut down. Her shell had cracked for a short time, and inside the cool aloof woman, was a soft, vulnerable girl – sexy and a damn good kisser.

If he had any sense, he’d put it out of his mind. The last thing he needed right now was another relationship.

Shit. This was a clusterfuck and a half.

Sighing, he rose from the bed and collected his clothes.

Emerson was already in the shower. He followed her in to clean himself off then redressed. She was quick at least, unlike most girls, and out in a few minutes. She’d dressed in the bathroom then pretended to primp in the mirror. He could tell she was avoiding because she kept straightening the same piece of hair over and over. And she seemed to be looking at him more than she was herself.

When he walked by the

desk, he glanced at the computer –

the letters that had crumbled his world were still there on the screen like angry little home-wreckers. He looked

away,

unprepared

to

process everything, at least not on an empty stomach. Maybe after he ate, he’d be able to face this. Or maybe he’d just get drunk and pretend it never happened.

Yeah. That sounded good.

He looked at Emerson,

who’d already grabbed her coat and bag and was waiting by the door.

“I’m ready for that drink now.”
