The second my lips wrap completely around him, a sharp hiss escapes his lips and his hands tangle through my hair. Languidly, I savor him, watching him squirm with pleasure. His half-lidded eyes on me as I trace his tip with my tongue, then take him into my mouth over and over. I never get to enjoy this part long before Tommy comes completely unglued.

“Come here,” he rasps, pulling me up his body, both hands cradling my face as he takes in my expression. “I love you, Lil.” He studies my features, admiringly, as if I’m a revelation.

My heart expands to absorb his love, fills my chest. Rewarding him with a smile, I lay my hand over his chest tattoo.

He beams back at me. “I love how you hold my heart.”

I can’t wait. I lean down and kiss him with everything I have, spilling my very being into him. I can’t get enough. I need him. Slowly lowering myself, I take him in, inch by inch. His expression morphs from overwhelming desire to pure ecstasy.

I brace myself on his chest and rock against him. He clutches my hips as I ride him, letting me set the pace…but not for long.

I’ve discovered Tommy’s lack of patience reigns in the bedroom as well.

He sits up, strong arms clamping around me, and takes over. We are locked together, perfect puzzle pieces, made for each other, moving in unison. He nips softly along my neck, tickling my collarbone. Deeper and faster, I hang on for dear life as we succumb to the urgency for release our bodies crave. He knows every inch of me, rotating his hips and sending me to oblivion. My head falls back, eyes closing from sheer pleasure and elation, and I’m so close…

“That’s it, baby, come for me.” His warm breath sears my skin, mouth working its way over my breast, taking in my nipple and biting lightly just at the exact moment—

“Tommy!” I’m free falling, not caring where I land, whether I live or die.

I have all I want and will ever need right here, right now.

My body quakes with its release as a deep, primal rumble leaves Tommy. He pins me against him, freezing me in place. I hang on as he reaches that edge, catching him as he goes over. Entwined, all limbs and parts, unable to distinguish where he ends and I begin.

He sighs into the hollow of my neck, leaving tender kisses, cradling my body as he pulses inside me.

Without breaking contact, we both lie on our sides. Blissfully entangled, we fall into a peaceful slumber.

CHAPTER 14

Tommy

The morning light brightens my mood, along with the memories from last night.

I haven’t seen Lil this happy in a long time. Giving her time to sort things out was a good idea. I’m trying to keep her out of reach of the shit I have going on right now. I’ve been eating, shitting, and sleeping with the biggest scum in Chicago. There’s one thing that keeps me sane: Lil. She keeps me whole.

Her lashes brush the top of her pink cheeks as she sleeps. Those dark spots under her eyes are nearly gone. Skin still flushed from our early morning lovemaking, her chest rises and falls peacefully. I focus on her collarbone, the curve of her neck, and that little nose of hers. Who knew there would be sexier, more tantalizing freckles on other parts of her body? Damn. She’s a work of art.

But, under that beautiful, delicate exterior, there’s something going on.

I know. I hear her talk in her sleep. Something I’ve kept to myself all this time.

At least she hasn’t called
his
name in a while.

We’re still naked, tangled up in each other from when we fell asleep. My hand grazes her face, pushing her caramel curls away so I can see her luscious lips slightly part. I love watching her like this. So relaxed. Content. I’ll do anything in my power to keep it that way. Even if it means not sharing details of this case I’ve been working since I joined the DEA.

Last night at Vic’s was close. Too close. I can’t get that close ever again. Lil is everything to me.

Holding her in my arms, I struggle to leave this bed. Our bed. Our home.

You’re home
,” she’d said to me.

God, I wanted to kiss her until we both passed out. I love everything about her. I want the fucking world to know this woman is mine. Hell, if I say that to her though; she’d kick my ass.

Not able to keep my hands off her, I gingerly caress her face, her soft neck, those shoulders, and steal a peck from those damn lips that rock my fucking world when they wrap around me.

And I’m hard again.

I slowly climb over her, making sure not to lean my weight on her body. Moving the sheets aside, I trail my nose from her neck down to her stomach, breathing in her scent. I want it all over me.

She frowns at my touch, but doesn’t stir. I shift to my knees, hovering, carefully exploring every inch of her naked body, and park my mouth between her thighs. One touch of my lips to her folds sends me into a frenzy of lust.

I lick, kiss, and nip at her core as every muscle in my body struggles with restraint.

She’s wide open for me, and I become all instinct. I need to be inside her now. I need to leave my mark, just one more time. That’s what I tell myself every time, and it’s never enough.

I peer up at her face as her hips grind against me; she’s watching me through hooded eyes. Every muscle in me screams and the second she explodes, I lick and suck my way up her body as I gently push inside her, joining us.

I love this part, no longer separated. We are one.

Raining light kisses over her face and neck, I move my hips, slowly, torturously. My eyes close in agony, as I try like hell not to lose it. Just feeling her all around me is transforming. Makes me feel like anything is possible, makes me feel invincible.

Hair splayed out on the pillow, she clutches the sheets as she watches me like a hawk. Those whiskey eyes roam every single one of my muscles as they twitch and contract against hers. There’s nothing but the sound of our moans and our skin’s friction creating a living, breathing rhythm. Our eyes are locked, and all the passion and devotion I feel for her overwhelms me. I want her today, tomorrow, and every single day of my life. I want to wake up like this forever. I want to grow old with her. I want to…
Jesus
. The thought of putting my baby inside her turns me on so much, my love and lust make me feral; my hips pump harder and harder and growls rumble through my chest, trying to escape.

My baby growing inside her...fuck.

Grabbing my ass, she presses me against her, bringing us even closer. My breathing picks up and I shut my eyes, hiding my face in the crook of her neck, because looking at her would be my undoing.

“Tommy.” Her gravelly voice is but a whisper next to my ear, and that’s all it takes.

“Lil.” She’s my reason for living, and I pour all I am inside her.

قلب

After showering, I eventually get ready for work. While Lil finishes up, I put some coffee on.

My disposable cell starts vibrating. Shit. Don’t answer, don’t answer. Fuck. I can’t do this here, not at Lil’s. I hit ignore. Just then, I notice an overnight bag right by the door.
What the fuck?
That’s Lil’s bag. How did I not notice it before?

Finally, I take a good look around. The kitchen is immaculate which means she hasn’t been home much, but neither have I. The counters are clean of clutter—

There’s a piece of paper with my name on it.

Tommy,

Working out of town this weekend. Be back Sunday.

L
.

Something is not right.
Dammit
.

Everything was good last night, now this? Was she going out of town to meet up with—no, Lil, wouldn’t do that. Then again, we barely talk anymore. What the fuck do I know about what’s going on with her? My phone goes off again, this time with a text message.

V:
where are you? I miss you.

I can’t think. I’m seeing red. I could give two shits about this case right now if it meant something is going on with Lil and some other guy. I need to get to the bottom of this, even if it means standing Vic up for breakfast. My phone buzzes again.

Marcus:
Where the fuck r u man? She’s asking too many questions. Hurry the F up!

I hit reply.

On my way. ETA 30 mins. Stall.

Marcus:
WTF!

Screw this. I shut that damn burner phone off.

I pour myself some coffee and wait anxiously for Lil. No way am I leaving before we talk. Finally, I hear her coming down the hall, so I reach for a mug and start getting her coffee ready.

“Good morning.” She greets me with a smile that lights up the room, making me forget what the hell I was so mad about two minutes ago.

Instantly, I want us naked again, back in bed. There we’re safe. There, no one can touch us. No one can interfere. Life stays out of that room and there’s only the two of us.

“Coffee?”

She takes her mug with a grin, then turns to grab some folders while sipping her coffee.

Standing right behind her, I sweep her ponytail over her shoulder and kiss that spot.

My favorite spot on her whole body. That point where her neck ends and her spine begins.

It is her second sweet spot.

As soon as my lips graze it, she leans into me and moans. “Oh my God, don’t start.”

I can’t help but smile. “You mean, don’t stop.”

I continue my ministrations, working my way down her shoulder, wrapping my arms around her waist, and pulling her against me as I bury my face in the crook of her neck.

She smells like heaven, lavender, and Lil. Shit. I’m hard again.

“Again? I thought you couldn’t stay.” She chuckles, pushing her ass into my hard-on. “By the way, feel free to wake me up like that every day,” she says seductively.

Before she can turn to face me, I back away. I need to put some distance between us if I’m going to attempt a conversation. Otherwise I’ll end up nailing her right here on the kitchen floor.

She moves into the living room, stowing the folders in her cross-body briefcase, and retrieving her headphones. She’s wearing her running shorts and a tank top. She seems happy this morning, energized. She resembles the old Harper more and more. Curvy body, taut, lean muscles, and that whiskey shine in her gaze that I love so much.

I haven’t seen her so happy in a while, and she looks fucking great. She is moving on without me. Fucking hell, my chest hurts. I rub it absently, and I’m stalling. I know it. Fuck.

Man up, Colton.

“So, what did you do yesterday?” My attempt to sound casual fails, so I just sip my coffee.

“Nothing,” she shoots over her shoulder without glancing my way.

“Then what’s with the bag?”

She glances my way, the question written on her face. I point to her overnight bag with my foot.

She turns away from me again. “Oh. I was supposed to travel for work but I didn’t need to.”

She won’t look at me. Anger is creeping through my bloodstream, working its way to my temples, and pounding along with the heartbeat in my ears.

She’s lying.

Huh
.” That’s all I can manage to say, so I drink my coffee in silence. She’s standing by the counter, looking through some paperwork and sipping on her coffee.

It’s now or never.

“Who’s Will?”

Her cup stops halfway to her lips. Her flinch is slight, but I catch it. My temper is fighting for control, but I try to keep it down. She won’t talk if I let the monster out.

“Where did you hear that name?” She’s going for casual but fails miserably.

“From you. In your sleep.” I don’t take my eyes off her.

She looks at her coffee cup. “I don’t know. Maybe some old case.”

Another lie.

“What old case?”

I’ve been by her side her entire professional career, and I know she’s feeding me bullshit. I’m not letting her off the hook that easy.

“I don’t know. What does it matter?” She shrugs dismissively but her jaw twitches. More lies.

“It matters.” I’m determined to get to the bottom of this.

“You’re making a big deal out of nothing,” she dismisses icily.

“Are you screwing him?” Regret hits the second the words leave my mouth because I just verbalized my deepest fear. The fear that kept me from making a move on her for all those years. “Excuse me?” Now I have her full attention, and it’s not any comfort. She’s hunkering down, ready for a brawl.

“The way I see it, a woman only calls a man’s name out in bed for one reason, dream or not.” Possession and instinct are now in charge, and I’m going for broke.

She shoots daggers at me and if looks could kill, I’d be dead. Outrage mixed with disappointment fills her eyes.

“So, let me see if I understand.” Her cup comes down against the sink with a thud. “Since you’re not around, it must mean I’m screwing someone behind your back?”

I don’t know how to answer, because she’s right. I know better. That isn’t like Lil.

She takes in my expression. “Jesus, Colton.” She shakes her head. “That’s what I thought. I’m going to give you a pass this time, and pretend you didn’t ask that.” She turns her back contemptuously, disengaging.

No matter how hard I try to hold on, I feel her slipping from my grasp. I shouldn’t keep pushing. I should shut the fuck up. But I can’t. If we’re going to make it as a couple, we have to work things out.

“Who is he, then?” I try reasoning instead. “I’ve heard you call his name more than once. It has to mean something. Come on, talk to me, Lil,” I say, getting close and reaching for her.

She pulls away from my touch and it stings.

“You want to talk? Let’s talk. What’s going on with
you
?”

Shit. Lil’s style is flight or fight. Fight it is.

“I’m deep undercover. I can’t discuss details, you know that.”

“Of course you can’t. Silly me.” Her sarcasm is in full swing, “When exactly would you like me to tell you what’s going on with
me
, Tommy?” she shoots back, her features hard and unforgiving. “You won’t tell me shit, yet I need to tell you shit?”
