“I’ve wanted to do that for a very long time.” He whispers, “And yes I think you can do this. The day you came down to the outdoor gym to find me, the way you covertly spoke to me… that’s when I realised how capable you were to work for us. I just didn’t know how we were going to approach you about it. You are amazing. Come on. Let’s pack your things and I’ll take you back home. You don’t have to run anymore.”

Nick holds my hand and starts to walk towards my brother’s house. I want to follow him but I release my grip from Nick. Of course I can do this. I have been do
ing this with Tench anyway. This time I will have help. The help of the government. I owe Sally… and poor Michael Stephenson and I owe it to myself… because Tench took what he wanted from me. Goodbye Tom Smythe. I smile at Nick. He tilts his head to the side and raises his eyebrows.

“What is it?” He asks.

“I look forward to getting to know you Nick Davis.” I smile and Nick chuckles, “Since we’re on a real-name basis, I should probably introduce myself. My name is Mia. Mia Thyme.” I hold my hand out to shake Nick’s.

“I know.
” He smiles and shakes my hand, “Welcome to the team Mia.”
