I only had moments to do what needed to be done. I connected with the woman as I groaned and rolled onto my knees. My hair falling around my face as my lips formed the words to release her.
Bound and freed by blood of me
to which the spell is countered.
I release thy pages
for mortal placement of the spirit,
of dark and light the blood of mine
and mine’s enemies.
Bring forth mortality of
words spoken of the chosen one
to set to rights of blood unbound
I release thee, Elinor Fergus.
The room exploded as the woman slipped from my head and her wispy form solidified beside me. Hair so blonde, it looked white, flowed down her body. Her face turned to me and her silver eyes locked on to mine. “Thank you,” she said before looking back at Lorenzo.
“You will give me that book,” she demanded.
“Or?” Lorenzo said as he flipped the book open and a wispy form rose from the pages. Leif’s body flickered as it grew. “I believe you know each other,” he cackled as Elinor covered her mouth, muffling the scream that ripped from her body.
Edge slammed his elbow into the Enforcers gut, twisting his arm to release the knife. When the knife clattered to the floor I made my move. I flipped over, kicking my legs out to catch the Enforcer behind me in the knees. He shouted as he fell and I kicked out again, catching my foot on the side of his head. His neck snapped sharply to the side and he crumbled to the floor. I started shaking. I’d just killed a man.
The wind picked up as Elinor approached Lorenzo. Edge rushed over and wrapped me in his arms.
“What should we do?” I cried.
“Get the book!” Elinor shouted as she tossed Lorenzo in the air. He flew over the table and landed on his feet. He smiled before grabbing the book and disappearing.
“LEIF!” Elinor screamed. The walls around us shuddered. Chunks of debris began reigning down on our heads.
Edge swept Elinor up and grabbed my hand as the ceiling caved in. We’d made it as far as the hallway when the ground rocked under our feet. Cracks formed and grew as we were bounced around. The floor disappeared from under us, ripping Edge away from me as we tumbled into the nothingness.
To be continued…….
About the Author
Sonya Loveday, is first and foremost a reader - an avid one. It is that love that brought her to the realization that there had to be an answer to the nagging persistent feeling that ‘there’s got to be something more’.
The dream began to come alive in 2009 when she purchased her laptop and began the tedious step of becoming a published author.
When she’s not reading, she’s writing. When she’s not writing, she’s reading. And when she’s not doing either of those things she’s sleeping, shuttling her children back and forth to school, letting the dogs and cats in and out of the house for the umpteenth time in the last hour and always dreaming of a clean house.
