I feel my heart constrict, and I’m overcome with emotion; today has been such a rollercoaster ride. I reach out to take his hand, “Thank you Daddy, it means so much to me.”

“Your Mother kicked me out.”

“What?” I whisper.

“She kicked me
out; I told her I was going to accept your decision to be with Caden. She kicked me out and locked the doors.”

“Oh Daddy, it’s my fault…” I knew my parents weren’t exactly ‘loves young dream’ but that didn’t mean I wanted them to separate; especially over me!

“This is not your fault Mandy; this has been a long time coming. We haven’t been happy and it isn’t fair on either of us to stay together. You were our glue and now you’re gone, things are bad. Your Mother wants to control your life, because she can’t control her own. If you need money, please, ask me and I will get it for you.”

I smile, humbled by his offer, “Thanks daddy, but I think I have to do this one on my own. I need to live like the rest of the world lives; it’s time for me to grow up.”

“You deserve love and happiness Mandy. Just promise me that you’re with him for the right reasons, not just to rebel. I wouldn’t want you getting hurt.”

“I love him Daddy, I truly do. He is everything I ever wanted and more. He may not be what people expected me to go for - heck, he isn’t what I expected me to go for - but we fit. He is what I want and if it goes wrong, that is on me. I’m a grown woman.”

My Father smiles at me. “Yes you are, and I can see he cares about you.”

“Where will you go?”

“I’m staying at our apartment in the city for now.”

“Are you sad?”

He smiles, “Yes and no. Regardless, I know it’s for the best.”

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

“Have you ever been in love, the way I am?”

He smiles painfully, “Once.”

“What happened?”

He takes a moment; as if deciding whether or not he should tell me something. “She died.”

I feel my chest seize, “Oh Daddy.”

“We were young lovers, I was only eighteen and she was seventeen. We spent every moment together; she was my everything. One day, her family was out skiing and something went wrong. She came off the skis and got tangled in the ropes. They tried to get her out but it was too late.

My eyes begin welling with tears.

“I was so angry; I went off the rails for a long time. Then I met your Mother. My parents and her parents set us up and I knew I had to get myself back on track. I married her, and we got all the wonderful things promised to us, but I never loved her the way I loved Beth. It was always a cause for fights.”

“What about Mom? Did she love before?”

My Father sighed. “If she did, she never told me about it.”

“Do you love her at all daddy?”

“Of course I do; she gave me you.  She has been a loyal wife and a great friend. I may not love her the way you love Caden, or the way I loved Beth but I do love her in my own strange way.”

“Is she going to be okay?”

“She is going to be fine; your Mother hasn’t needed me for a long time honey.”

“What about you?”

He smiles, “I’m sure I’ll be just fine.”

“I hope so Daddy, for your sake.”

CHAPTER NINE

“Have you spoken to your Ma in the last two weeks?” Jaxson asks, leaning against the bench.

I shake my head. “Nope; she’s still refusing to speak to me.”

“Do you think she ever will?”

“I hope so; I don’t want to fight with her. “As much as I disliked the way she tried to control my life, I do miss having her around to talk to.

“How’s the old man going?”

“He’s great! He seems to be doing well in the apartment on his own; I don’t think we’ve ever spoken so much as we have recently.”

“Does he like Caden?”

“Surprisingly yes, they get along quite well.”

“And how is the psycho ex?” He asks, frowning.

I sigh. “Still claiming she’s pregnant. I don’t believe her and neither does Caden. He said as soon as the baby is born he wants a DNA test but she is fighting him. I honestly don’t even think there is a baby; I think she’s just trying to pin him down. She knows how Caden feels about family and so she’s using the ‘baby’ to get close to him again. He threw a pregnancy test at her the other day, and she wouldn’t pee on it. The bitch is lying.”

Jaxson clutches at his chest in mock horror. “Did you just say bitch?”

I snort, “Sorry, I’ve been around those bikers far too much lately.”

Jaxson laughs and cuffs my shoulder. “I think I like this dangerous side to you.”

“Nah, you just like the dangerous side that is Caden Williams!” I reply; he knows I’m only messing but plays along anyway.

“That too, the man is so damn hot! I would never get out of those pants.”

I flush, “No, even I have to agree with that.”

“Then why aren’t you in those pants?”

“He’s away, what can I do?”

Jaxson holds up his thumb and little finger to imitate a telephone.
“Phone sex girl; and a lot of it.”

“I don’t know; I’m not too sure about it all. I think we’ll just wait; it’s not that much longer.”

“When does he get back?”

I stick my bottom lip out and pout in an exaggerated way.
“In a week.”

“Poor baby, you have to mope around for another week.”

“It’s been eight days!”

“Awwww.”

“Shut up you ass,” I laugh.

I walk into the lounge and slump back on the chair staring at the phone. Caden has been away for work for the last eight days, and I still have another six to go. I miss him like crazy and I can’t wait to see him again. Being without him is killing me far more than I would have first imagined. I pick up the handset and dial the number to his room. He answers on the first ring.

“Hello?”

“It’s me,” I whisper.

I hear the smile in his voice as he responds. “Hey baby, how you doin’?”

“I’m okay, missing you though.”

“Yeah, I miss you too.”

“So what you been up to; besides missing me of course?”

Caden chuckles. “The usual…”

“Work?”

“Something like that.”

My conversation with Jaxson comes to mind and I decide to speak to Caden about it. I mean, it has been eight days…

“So, Jaxson and I were talking before…”

“And…”

“He said something about phone sex…”

“Phone sex hey? I’m up for that.”

Why I am not surprised?! “I don’t know how that works,” I admit quietly.

“I talk dirty in your ear and you stroke yourself until you come.”

My mouth drops open and I squeal down his ear, “Caden!”

“You asked!”

“I didn’t ask…”

“You wanted to know, admit it.”

I love and hate that he knows me so well. “Ok, I was a little curious. What do you do?”

“Exactly the same…”

Feeling brave, I decide to play with him a little. “Now
that
I have to see!”

“A fantasy of yours?”
Although he doesn’t seem to react to what I’ve said, I can tell that I’m getting to him by the sudden hoarseness in his voice.

“Maybe.”

Caden clears his throat. “Ohhhh…do tell.”

“I can’t or I’ll ruin it.”

He laughs, “I’m calling you tonight.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, me and you…we are going to moan.”

“Caden…” I whisper.

“I have to go to work. Later beautiful.”

He hasn’t even hung up the phone and I’m already missing his voice. “Talk to you later.”

“Oh baby, I look forward to it.”

I hang up the phone with a big smile on my face. Jaxson waggles his eyebrows at me from the kitchen and I poke my tongue out at him.

“Don’t say a word!”

“You two are smoking!”

I smile. “Yeah, I know.”

I peer down at the time and groan, “Urgh I have to go to work.”

“How is the job going?”

“I’m a checkout chick, how good can it possibly go?”

He laughs, “A step down from working for your parents then?”

“More like fifty feet down but least I’m free.”

“That
is
true.”

I walk into my room and dress in my uniform. I have been working as a checkout chick over a week now; it isn’t long term but I need the money and the pay is enough to get me by. I work most afternoons, and sometimes during the night. When I am ready, I drive to work and spend half an hour trying to find a parking space. Sheesh, don’t people have better things to do then hang around a shop?

I get out of the car and walk inside. Out the back of the store, in the staff area, I get myself organized for my shift. A coworker named Analeice walks in just as I am about to head out. She smiles at me, and I give her a friendly smile in return. She is a sweet girl, and seems like the sort of person who makes friends easily. She has blonde hair and brown eyes that fit perfectly on her round face.

“Hey Mandy,” she smiles.

“Hey Ana, how are you?”

“I am good, not looking forward to work tonight.”

“Oh?”

Pulling some lipstick out of her purse she applies, blots and smacks her lips before answering, “I would much rather be out.”

“I know the feeling,”

“Hey, I’m
thinking of heading up to a bar just up the road after my shift for a few drinks. Do you wanna come with?”

I think for a second; I need female company, and though my automatic response is to say no, I smile and nod, knowing it is the best thing for me right now.

“Sure, that would be great.”

She jumps up and down, clapping her hands in glee. “Awesome! I can’t wait!”

We head out and begin our shift, which drags on and on. When we are done, we change out of our uniforms, clock outs and make our way to a nearby bar. It is a quiet place, all set out in a sixties style. We make our way to a shiny red booth that is designed to look as though we are sitting in the back of a convertible. We slide in, and order some apple martinis.

“So tell me Mandy, what else do you do aside from work at shit central?”

I laugh, “Shit central…that’s a good one.”

She grins. “I know, it’s been there as long as I have, but I unfortunately I can’t lay claim to it.”

“I’ll take your word for it.”

“So? What do you do with the rest of your time?”

“I hang out with my boyfriend and best friend; things like that.”

“Oh?
A boyfriend? Do spill.”

“He is…kind of a biker.”

Her eyes widen. “A biker?!”

“Yes, but it isn’t what you think; he’s not a bad person.”

She looks at me like I just told her she was getting a raise. “Oh my God! I bet he is smoking hot!”

I flush, not wanting to give too much away. “He certainly isn’t bad to look at.”

“Don’t hold out on me girl… spill!”

I pull out my purse and show her a picture of me and Caden
on our most recent ride to the lighthouse, we are standing by the beach and he is completely shirtless.

“Oh…my…
God!” she breathes, “
that
is all yours?”

I laugh, “I guess so.”

“You lucky bitch!”

“Don’t I know
it!” I say, shoving my purse away.

“So where is he on a fine night like this?”

“He is out of town.”

A smile stretches across her face, and she gives me a sympathetic nod.

“That sucks.”

We chat for another two hours about our lives, and I have to say I am enjoying the female company. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jaxson and the club members, but some serious female down time has been on the menu for a long while now. When the night comes to an end, we swap phone numbers and promise to meet up again after our next shift. I look forward to it; it‘s just what I need right now.

“Oh
God,” I moan, arching into the bed.

“Tell me you just came,” Caden rasps over the phone later that night.

“Yes; oh God, yes.”

“Keep touching yourself.
God baby! Tell me how good it feels.”

I struggle to speak, my breath coming in waves. “So good, tell me what you’re doing?”

“I’m stroking my cock. Jesus, baby.  It’s so fuckin’ hard.”

“Oh
!”

“I wish you were here, I would sink it right into your beautiful, wet flesh.”

“Caden…”
