“Oh boy,” Heather said. “At least, it’s over. Right? Lilly’s safe.”

“Lilly is safe,” Ryan said, one last time, probably to make Heather feel better.

“Good. Then I think we should invite her over to play with Dave. Or we should take Dave to see her at her foster home if that suits the parents.”

“Good idea,” Ryan replied, “I’ll make it happen. Dinner at Dos Chicos tonight, my love?”

“You bet your cute bottom,” Heather said, then hung up.

Amy grinned at her from behind the register, ringing up yet another order.

Heather couldn’t help smiling back this time. Lilly was safe. The murderer was behind bars, and Ryan’s work situation would improve too.

All that Heather had left to do was… well, everything donut.

She chuckled, grabbed her apron from a hook on the wall, and tied it on.
