corduroy tracks
[MC].
Wooden trackways made from short logs laid parallel to each other side to side, thus forming a continuous corrugated surface.
core
[Ar].
1
The piece of stone which a stone-knapper works so as to produce flakes, blades, or core tools.
2
[Ge].
An intact solid cylinder-shaped sample of sediment, stone, or wood collected with a coring device or hollow drill. Deep-sea cores and ice cores provide important records of climatic change and sediment accumulation. Cores taken from archaeological sites provide a quick guide to the main stratigraphic subdivisions. Cores from peat bogs can be sampled for pollen analysis. Cores taken from substantial timbers are used in dendrochronology.
core–periphery model
[Th].
The economic and political relationship existing between one more highly developed country or region (the ‘centre’) and the less developed countries or regions in contact with it (the ‘periphery’). See also

core rejuvenation flake
(core tablet)
[Ar].
A roughly round slightly wedge-shaped flake of flint with the remains of flake beds around the outside edge. Such flakes are the product of extending the life of a core that has become uneven or difficult to work but which still has the potential to yield further blades.
core tools
[De].
Artefacts manufactured by modifying (usually by flaking) a single block of flint or stone to reach the desired shape. Typical core tools include axes, choppers, and adzes.
core tool and scraper tradition
[CP].
A stone tool industry found widely across Australia and Tasmania dating to the late Pleistocene and early Holocene. Characterized by hand-held steep-edged flake scrapers, chopping tools, and horseshoe cores.
