Archaic Stage hunter-gatherer communities living in the Plateau area of northeastern California in North America in the period

4000–3000 bc. Permanent villages are known, from which groups would venture out on foraging missions to occupy small temporary camps for short periods. The Menlow diet included bison, deer, antelope, mountain sheep, rabbit, and a range of other small mammals. They also processed and consumed nuts, to judge from the presence of pestles and mortars.

Dean of Hereford and excavator of numerous prehistoric sites in southern England during the first half of the 19th century. One of the Dean's most ambitious schemes was in 1849 when, with finance from the Royal Archaeological Institute, he drove a tunnel into the south side of Silbury Hill near Avebury. Throughout his work his field technique was characteristic of 19th-century clerical excavators. He is reputed to have opened 35 barrows on the Marlborough Downs between 18 July and the 14 August 1849.
