“Did you not read the file I sent you about her?” he asked. “After you first got out of the hospital and she was assigned to you, you demanded to know who the hell she was and why you should let a teenager boss you around. I sent you the file through email.”

“Then I probably ignored it.”

“If you hadn’t you’d know she spent four years in the Military Police and was one of the few females in Special Forces. And she did it while going to medical school. So yes, she’s an asset. And I need her back in the field.”

“It sounds like you’ve already made up your mind,” Shane said, shrugging.

Dec parked the car in front of his small cabin, but he didn’t get out to get his wheelchair.

“Not entirely. It depends on you.” Dec gave him a steady stare, doing that thing that only Dec could do, where he analyzed people and how they were doing within a few sentences. “Can you live without her?”

It was a damned good question, Shane thought. Could he live without her?
