CHAPTER FIVE

In minutes, the Vlodik weremen had me surrounded. I sat huddled on the grass, trying to drown out their excited yips and barks as they loomed over me, their incisors snapping. An enormous wolf whose white fur was sprinkled with shades of butterscotch pushed through them. Though I had never seen Kincaid in his wolf, I knew instantly it was him. He leaned down, nudging me with his nose, his damp nostrils rubbing against my fur. He inhaled my scent to see if there was any blood to access how much damage had been done in the fall.

To my surprise, he said nothing about the attempted escape. Instead, he barked orders to the others to return to their home base. “I will take care of her,” he barked. A few of the Vlodiks hesitated, but did as he commanded.

After they left, he looked at me with what looked like concern in his eyes. “I can understand your desire to run, Kristen. I truly do. But you belong with us now. So it is better you don’t fight it. Change into your woman Kristen. It will be easier to take you back.”

His furry gaze made me squirm and I hesitated. The idea of transitioning and being nude in front of him filled me with trepidation.

“Do you want me to call the other wolves back here to drag you back instead?” he growled.

I shook my head and transitioned into my female form, trying to cover myself with my hands. But covering an ass, breasts, butt, and my intimate parts all at once was impossible. I was totally naked in front of his probing, gleaming yellow wolf eyes.

He flicked his furry head to his hind side and I knew I was supposed to climb on his back. He hunched down, and reluctantly I grabbed my duffel and mounted his massive physique, my breasts clinging to his furred back. I secured myself as best I could, clutching the sides of his body, and he took off, racing back towards Vlodik territory. I tried to hold back the tears as the distance between me and the Lycans grew greater. I could only hope that Lisa would make it back to the Lycan’s safely and the clan would find the kindness in their hearts to send help for me.

The return trip to Vlodik territory was excruciating. My ankle hurt, my head ached, and the tension in my hands from gripping Kincaid’s fur was sending waves of stress through my arms and down my back. As he ran through the mountainous area, my body jolted back and forth. I leaned in close to his furry body, trying to make the trip smoother.

When we finally arrived back at the Vlodik camp, Kincaid took me back to the cell I had been in. Thankfully, McGreevy and the Vlodik guard were not there. He laid me on the bed and then transitioned back into his man.

As he shifted, I couldn’t help but stare at his brawny, naked form. He had a light gleam of sweat covering his body that only served to accent his well-developed pecs and biceps. The glisten extended to his thighs. I tried not to look, but who could not notice the huge tool between his legs—his cock was enormous, and fully erect.

Kincaid noticed my gaze, a soft smile playing on his lips. “Do you like what you see, Kristen?”

I pulled my eyes away, ignoring his words.

“Don’t be shy. There is no reason we can’t enjoy one another here in privacy and comfort.”

Yuck. He was just like his brothers, only instead of coming right out and saying he wanted to screw, he used sweet talk. He pretended to be nice to get what he wanted.

“You are a beautiful girl Kristen. And I would very much like to get to know you much better, in every way possible.”

Wow the guy really tried to work it.

“Mentally, I can see that we are a match. You are a smart woman. Physically, I can tell from your gaze that you find me handsome and what woman wouldn’t like what I have to offer. I find you very attractive also. I like your voluptuous breasts, your curvy hips … you are ripe and juicy … very hot. Sexually—I could bring you to multiple orgasms with my tongue and cock in just minutes. And I am sure you would love to return the favor,” he added, running his hand lightly over his bulging dick.

“Just go away Kincaid. You—you’ve said enough.”

Kincaid looked at me, surprise in his eyes. “There are plenty of Vlodik werewoman here who want me. I could have my pick of them. But I like you. Besides Dorian is not worthy of a sexy beast like you. And unlike my father and Troy who rut with many, I could commit to you.”

There was no way in hell I would be with this man willingly, but why didn’t he feel Dorian was worthy? I had to know.

“What about Dorian? Why don’t you feel he is worthy?”

“Ah,” Kincaid waved his hand. “Dorian is nothing. We are toying with him for now. Eventually, we will let him know that there is no way he will ever be alpha of our clan, and we will allow him to serve us in some minor capacity—he is a half-brother after all.”

I shuddered. I could just imagine the rage Dorian would feel when he found out he was being played by the Vlodiks. But it served him right!

“Some of the men here, my father and Troy included, just take what they want from the women, but...” he added with deep meaning in his voice, “I can protect you from them—if you know what I mean.”

“You are saying you will protect me from being raped by them?” I was incredulous. Wow, what a nerve. He was pretty much saying he wanted me and if I chose not to go with him, I would be raped.

“Yes, I can protect you from all of that. We will be happy together.”

The bastard. I shook my head. This guy was good looking, but what an asshole. “Kincaid, I don’t want any man but Markus.”

Kincaid looked at me, puzzled. “What does he offer you that I can’t? I have a secure position in the clan. One day I will be the alpha over all. You will have a choice of the finest cuts of meat, the best sleeping arrangements, werewomen to do your bidding—it will be a great life for you. And,” he growled as he stroked his rock hard shaft, “of course, I can more than please you.”

I shook my head.

“You seem doubtful. Get your clothes on and let me show you the area, just some of what you will have if you agree to mate with me.”

As much as I loathed going with Kincaid, I knew it could only help me in the long run to have a better understanding of my surroundings. We left the cell and stopped at Kincaid’s small cabin where he put on a pair of jeans, and then he gave me a tour of the Vlodik camp.

Unlike the tour of Vickers Retreat Dorian had given me, where I had been blown away by the infrastructure, the Vlodik camp did not impress. The grounds consisted of a few small cabins where the elite weremen, like Quinn and his sons, lived. The rest made do in cave dwellings that dotted the mountains. There was no official dance pavilion or dining hall. A few ramshackle huts served as a mess hall and offices, and that was about it. There were no signs of self-sufficiency here either, no gardens or planted crops. Everything appeared to be scavenged.

“You see,” Kincaid said as we walked past a small hut, “we travel around all the time to keep our enemies off guard. We have several camp areas that we’ve put up over the years. This base is one of our most developed. It was built years ago, and at the time we thought it would be permanent, so it has the cell block and a few other amenities. But, we found that moving around was best for our clan, so we built other camps at different locations, and now we move from one to the next.

Amenities? Umm … I looked around and didn’t see any. Sleeping here, even in one of the “deluxe cabins,” was probably worse than snoozing in my smelly sleeping bag tossed on top of a twin bunk bed back at Camp Rocky.

“So, what do you think, Kristen?” Kincaid gave me a saucy grin. “Shall we tell the others to go blow?”

I looked directly in Kincaid’s golden yellow eyes. “Find someone else Kincaid. I am Markus’s werewoman.
I … I am in love with Markus
!”

CHAPTER SIX

I hadn’t planned to say the words, but as they left my lips, I realized they were true. I was in love with Markus—deeply in love. And I wasn’t even sure if he was alive. I didn’t know if I was carrying his child—our child. I barely knew where I was. My eyes welled with tears, but I did not want Kincaid to see me as weak.
“Leave me alone Kincaid!”

“You are a stupid woman,” Kincaid spat out as he started to leave. “I will leave it to the others to decide what to do with you.”

“Please, Kincaid. Please tell me if Markus is alive!” I hated to beg, but I had to know.

Kincaid’s eyes narrowed coldly. “Dorian said he was alive when he left him in the woods, but he has probably been eaten by vultures by now. Even if he is still alive, he has to know you are nothing but trouble. And besides, after the men here have their way with you, he won’t want you anyway!”

I didn’t even want to think about the implications of what he was saying might happen to me. All I could think about was the man I loved. My precious Markus had not been killed when they dropped him off in the woods. In my heart, I just knew Markus was still alive.

Kincaid gave me a disgusted look. “Bah, you are really not my type anyway—too mouthy for my liking. I like my werechicks to know who’s boss.” Just to make sure I got the point, he jerked a finger towards his chest. “Me,” he stated. Then, he abruptly turned and strode out of the cell.

I was trembling as Kincaid left. It was crazy to think that at first I thought he might be decent … he was just as bad as his father and brothers! I had to wonder what his sister was like.

I barely had time to collect my thoughts before a Vlodik man came down the steps and practically yanked me out of the cell. I grabbed my duffel as he shoved me along.

“Wha … what are you doing?”

“We’re moving,” he grunted.

I could only guess that the main reason for the move was Lisa’s escape. With her keen wolf sense of smell and tracking, if she had made it to the Lycans after escaping she could probably lead them back to the Vlodik camp. And I had to hope and believe she made it.

“Where are we going?” I asked the gruff Vlodik.

He didn’t answer, but instead pulled me outside and towards a crowd of people. A man was in the middle of the throng shouting orders. “We will be leaving in twenty minutes everyone, so get your things.” He gazed over at the Vlodik who was pulling me along. “Don’t damage her,” he said.

“Right, Master Quinn,” the Vlodik grunted.

So this was Quinn, the alpha of the Vlodiks and Dorian’s stepfather. Surprisingly he was not a big man, but was more wiry and gaunt. Even so, his very presence commanded attention as the Vlodiks rushed to do his bidding.

The Vlodiks collected their belongings, but by the calm look on their faces I gathered they had done this many times before. The crowd was pretty thick. I would have to guess there were about forty people; some in their human form, and others in their wolf. I tried to take count, but a honking vehicle jarred my concentration. I looked over to see a truck with a long truck bed. The back was open and several weremen were loading a stretcher on it. Craning my neck, I could just make out an older woman with snowy white hair laid out on the stretcher.

“Be careful with Dalia,” Quinn yelled at the men. “Talika, what did I tell you. She is no longer contagious, but to be safe you should wear a mask around her.”

A beautiful young woman stepped out from behind the truck. She had soft, creamy pale skin with full breasts and hips, but it was her hair that caught my attention. She had thick, white hair, only tamed by the braid she wore it in. Quinn gave her a soft kiss on her forehead. “I cannot have my beloved Talika get sick.”

From what Dorian had told me, Quinn had little respect for women, but it was obvious he made an exception for his own daughter.

“I will be careful with mama of course,” she said. Out of her pocket she pulled a gauze mask. She positioned it over her face and climbed into the truck bed, joining the elderly woman. She started gently stroking her face.

Quinn started walking back to the other weremen and women. He pointed to the Vlodik who had yanked me out of the cell. “Chad, be sure to help Talika and do what she needs. And watch that one closely,” he called out, waving a bony finger in my direction. Talika glanced up. Once Quinn had turned his attention to the group of wolves and people in front of him, she motioned to me.

“You must be Kristen. Come over here,” she said. “I have heard my brothers mention you.”

I nodded as I walked to her side.

“This is Dalia, my mother. She is recovering from a virus. I am Talika. Would you like to sit with us in the truck?”

“I…I would very much like that … but …” I motioned to the man who had pulled me from the cell; he was watching my every move.

“Chad, let her go,” she commanded.

“But Master Quinn said…”

“I am sure he told you to watch over and protect her while Dorian is not here. I will do that now.”

“Yes, mistress,” Chad mumbled.

With a wave of her hand, Talika dismissed Chad and patted a spot next to her in the back of the truck, motioning to me. I climbed in next to her and put on the mask she handed me.

“She is no longer contagious, but it is better to be safe than sorry,” Talika said, lightly touching the gauze mask on her face. “The after effects of the virus have left her very weak.”

I looked down at the sleeping woman in front of me. Dorian said she was recovering and gaining strength daily, but she did not look like it. Her face was wan and her breathing barely audible. “I’m sorry your mother is not well.”

Talika smiled at me as she continued stroking her mother’s face. “I know that her time is near, and I have accepted it. I have studied the healing arts for many years and trained under our medicine man, so I feel I can make her last days as comfortable as possible.”

“So, you are a nurse … or a doctor?”

“No, I am not licensed, but my experience and training has taught me a lot. I am the one our clan comes to when there is an illness. I can thank my brothers for that,” she added, a frown crossing her lips.

“Your brothers?”

“Yes, over the years, they have been in their share of fights. They have hurt others and been hurt. And I am always here to clean them up.” She shook her head sadly.

“Where are we going, Talika?”

“I am sorry, Kristen. I truly don’t know. My father—Quinn, never tells us. We have several permanent camps set up. Sometimes we make new ones.”

As we traveled to whatever location Quinn had in mind for us, Talika and I talked about her life as a Vlodik werewoman and her work helping others in her clan. I didn’t say much about my life. The more I could learn about the Vlodiks, the more information I had to plan another escape.

As she talked, I realized what a kind and giving person she was. It was hard to believe that such a warm and caring person had brothers like Dorian, Troy, and Kincaid. We must have been on the road for at least forty minutes when the truck started to slow.

“We are slowing down. We must be close; a new campsite for us, a new adventure!” Talika said, looking out to the terrain we had just past. “You must be so excited to bond with Dorian.”

I glanced at Talika. She had a look of happiness on her face, intermingled with sadness. “I’m so sorry Mama is so ill. But I am sure she is thrilled for you both.”

My mouth dropped open. I realized she had no idea that I was being held against my will!
