“No, you don’t.”
“So I guess I don’t know what to do. Now that the grand jury has cleared me, I can go back to work. But I don’t know if I want to.”
“I’m sure Joe will be disappointed, but if you want to change careers, do it.”
“It’s not that easy. Anyway, seeing you with my mother has made me realize how much I’ve missed. I cheated her out of a daughter.”
“It’s never too late to change.”
“No, I suppose not.”
“I still haven’t heard a good reason for us not to be together.”
Angel thought he sounded completely reasonable. “I guess that’s true.”
He grinned down at her, his green eyes sparkling. “Your mother is going to tell you to marry me.”
“She is?”
“Mmm. She thinks I’m good husband material.”
“Maybe you are.” Angel forgot to breathe. “But I’m not ready to get married.”
“Good. Neither am I.” He brought her closer to him.
She had no idea what the future held. She didn’t know if she would go back to work as a police officer. She didn’t know where life would take her or where Callen would fit in. She only knew one thing. The moment Callen’s lips met hers, she didn’t want to be anywhere else.
