When his mate didn’t reply, Kamiko began to slide his fingers from Takeo’s body.

“Don’t.”

Kamiko’s hands stilled.

“Look at me, little flower.”

Kamiko could feel his entire body shaking as he slowly raised his eyes. He didn’t regret asking, but he was afraid Takeo was about to reject his request. Even if Takeo said no, Kamiko knew he would accept his mate’s answer.

He loved Takeo, and he would never do anything that Takeo felt uncomfortable with. It was just a silly desire after all. One he could live without.

“Is that what you want?”

Kamiko caught the words before he shouted them. It was all he could think about since inserting a finger inside his mate the first time. “Yes.”

Reaching up and cupping his face, Takeo pulled Kamiko down, making his fingers slip free. Kamiko leaned into the kiss, feeling the rejection coming. He was a little disappointed, but he knew they would be okay.

“Then do it,” Takeo growled as he pulled his lips away.

Kamiko sat there stunned for a moment, not sure if he had heard Takeo correctly.
Did he just say yes?

Really?

Kamiko was about to come all over…ah hell. This was a dream come true. Now that he knew Takeo would let him, his mind scrambled. Kamiko wasn’t sure where to begin. He’d never fucked anyone before, and he felt somewhat intimidated.

This was…ah hell.

Takeo smiled as he ran his fingers over the shell of Kamiko’s ears.

“What are you waiting for?”

What was he waiting for?

Pulling his leg over Takeo, Kamiko moved around the bed until he was kneeling between Takeo’s legs.

Lube. He needed lube.

Kamiko reached an unsteady hand out as he grabbed the bottle, lubing his fingers once more. He ran his dry hand over Takeo’s thigh as he reinserted his fingers. He was pretty damn sure Takeo had never been taken in this manner and wanted to make sure he prepared Takeo to the fullest.

“Easy,” Takeo said as he pulled back slightly.

Kamiko’s eyes darted down between Takeo’s legs to see he had jabbed his fingers into his mate’s hole. Shit.

“Sorry. I got a little excited,” he admitted to his hand.

Takeo chuckled. “Take your time.”

Kamiko nodded as he pushed in unhurriedly. He had never prepared someone before, and the sight of his fingers inside Takeo was spellbinding. Unsure of how long he was supposed to stretch his mate, because lord knew Kamiko was winging this, he glanced up at his mate for guidance.

“I’m ready.”

Kamiko sure hoped so.

He pulled his hand free and then wiped it on the bedspread. He grabbed the lube again, this time using it to slick his cock. Scooting forward on his knees, Kamiko exhaled and then pushed the head of his shaft against Takeo’s hole. He took a deep and steady breath and then pushed past the ring of muscle.

Fuck!

He was about to come.

Not yet!

Kamiko stilled as he tried to calm himself. Once he thought he had his body under control, he inched his cock in, Takeo’s body opening wide and accepting him.

“Kamiko,” Takeo whispered as he pulled his legs back. Kamiko was amazed at how Takeo’s body felt wrapped around his cock. He knew in his heart that he was going to want this more than just one time. It felt…he couldn’t even think of a way to describe the extraordinary feeling.

Once he was fully impaled, Kamiko stilled and chanced a glance up at his warrior. Takeo looked as though he was going to come from the lust-filled way his eyes locked onto Kamiko. He began to move experimentally at first. When he heard Takeo moan, Kamiko became bolder, making his strides longer, deeper.

His hands shaking, Kamiko laid them on Takeo’s legs and began to fuck the large man like a pro. His movements were quick, measured, and…fuck, this felt good!

Kamiko slammed his eyes closed as he tried his best not to come, but it was a losing battle. His fingernails dug into Takeo’s flesh as he stiffened and then cried out, his hips snapping with ferocity.

His head jerked up when Takeo roared. Kamiko could see that Takeo had his own cock in his hands, splatters of cum hitting his mate’s chest.

“That was…” Takeo licked his lips as he looked down at Kamiko, a smile pulling at his lips. “That was fantastic.” Kamiko chuckled as he pulled free, stretching out beside Takeo as he laid his head on his mate’s outstretched arm, cuddling in closely.

“It was.”

* * * *

Takeo walked out of the shadows by Zeus’s home. It felt odd to knock on the alpha wolf’s front door after using the shadows in Kamiko’s bedroom for so many years. He wasn’t even sure what he was going to say, but he had to follow his gut instinct.

An instinct that told him the man Wayland had carried away was Keegan’s brother.

Walking up the front walkway, Takeo took in the sight of the beautiful home. It was grandeur, with a nicely manicured lawn. If he didn’t know for a fact that shifters lived here, it would look like an ordinary rich humans’ home.

As his hand lifted to ring the bell, the door flew open.

“Takeo?”

He recognized the alpha of Pride Pack Valley. Zeus stood there looking proud and fierce, even if he was wearing a pair of jogging pants and tennis shoes. What did the man wear, a size sixteen?

Takeo nodded at the man as he waved a hand toward the front entrance. “We need to talk.”

Chapter Fifteen

Takeo felt drained as he walked the streets of Pride Pack Valley.

He had gone to see the man Wayland had rescued, but he was not Keegan’s brother. Wherever Marino had him stashed, Takeo knew the only way to find out was from Marino.

And somehow he knew the man wasn’t going to just hand over the answer. It was a power game with him, a power game that was costing Keegan. He hated to see anyone used that way. He had been used time and again growing up, and he knew the hopeless despair that ate away at a person when he felt as though his choices were gone.

Takeo wanted to kill Marino for what he was doing.

It was amazing how one man had the power to destroy another, to destroy many. Marino was responsible for the drug Liquid Wrath, and he was responsible for Keegan being used as a whore.

The man had no conscience, no empathy, and he certainly didn’t have any qualms about who he used to get what he wanted. Men like Marino should have been the cum stain on their father’s bed.

Takeo knew he had a lot to learn when it came to love and patience, but he also knew he was a far cry from the evil that lived and breathed inside of Marino Malone. Takeo might have rough edges, but he was salvageable.

Marino was not.

He walked into a shadow on the side of Harold’s Deli and then emerged in Panahasi’s living room. Takeo wasn’t ready to face Kamiko just yet. He had failed, and he wasn’t ready to tell Kamiko as much.

When he saw that he was alone, Takeo took a seat on one of the couches, sitting back as he exhaled. Kamiko had looked so damn hopeful when Takeo had left. He wasn’t looking forward to seeing his mate’s face fall when he delivered the news of his failure.

“He’ll understand.”

Takeo glanced to his right to see Panahasi sitting in a darkened corner, staring out into the night, looking over Serenity City as the glass tumbler touched his lips. He had been so distracted that he hadn’t even noticed the leader sitting there.

“But Keegan risked a lot to help us. How am I going to tell him that his brother has not been found yet?” Panahasi sat the tumbler on the arm of the wingback chair. “It was my deal. I’m the one who has to inform him, not you. You take on too much, Takeo.”

But it was his mate who had befriended Keegan. Now Takeo felt it his responsibility to find the guy. Pushing to his feet, Takeo glanced once more at Panahasi before heading to his apartment.

He would give Kamiko the world if he asked for it. But Takeo couldn’t find one lone man.

* * * *

Kamiko sat in the open field with Takeo, his arms stretched out behind him, holding him up as he stared at the stars in the night sky.

There wasn’t a cloud for miles, enabling him to see thousands of the twinkling lights.

He wasn’t sure where they were. Takeo had just taken his hand and walked him through a shadow, and now here they sat. He listened to his mate tell him about how he had searched for Keegan’s brother but had failed at finding him. Kamiko could hear the misery in Takeo’s voice.

“But you are not the one who should feel responsible,” Kamiko said as he lowered his head and gazed up at his mate. “You went out of your way to try and help the elf. That is more than anyone could ask.”

Kamiko studied Takeo for a moment longer before he began his stargazing once more. The sky was truly beautiful here. He wondered if Takeo would ever lighten up and learn to live a little. The man seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. His mate was a very strong man, but not even he could carry so much around.

He knew he had a solemn mate, and Kamiko could live with that.

Takeo was quiet, brave, and caring. The warrior was everything Kamiko could want in a mate. He just wished he would stop acting as though everyone’s problems were his own.

“Maybe,” Takeo answered as he lay back on the grass and tucked his arms behind his head. “I just don’t like to see someone who has gone out of his way to help us suffer needlessly.”

“He will find his brother.”

Takeo turned his head, glancing at Kamiko with a raised brow.

“And how do you know this, little flower?” Kamiko shrugged as he mimicked Takeo and lay back. “I just do.” And he did.

Kamiko had a feeling that things with Keegan would work out. He also had a feeling things between him and Takeo would be fine as well. The man was a hard person to figure out, but Kamiko was right where he wanted to be, and that was all that mattered.

He looked up above him, seeing the stars sparkle like diamonds against a black velvet canvas.

Kamiko smiled.

Things between him and Takeo were going to be just fine.

* * * *

Panahasi walked down the back roads of Pride Pack Valley, something he did from time to time to clear his head. As old as he was, there was plenty up there to keep his mind going even while asleep.

Another one of his warriors had found his mate, and Panahasi was truly happy for Takeo and Kamiko, but it only drove home the fact that he was still alone. It shouldn’t bother him. He had been alone for so long that he should be used to it by now.

But he wasn’t.

It seemed the more mates that popped up, the lonelier he became.

It was starting to sour his mood, turning him into a grumpy bastard.

He longed to have someone at his side, sharing their most intimate secrets and a life together.

But that was a double-edged sword.

Having a mate also meant more risk. If his enemies found out, that would leave Panahasi vulnerable. Once again Kamiko’s question came to mind.

And he knew the answer this time. Panahasi would do whatever it took to protect his mate. He wasn’t even sure if he would ever find his mate, but a strong, protective instinct welled up inside of him at the thought of whoever it was being hurt. He would destroy the world to keep his mate safe.

He had the power to do so. And he prayed that he never had to choose between his unknown mate and humankind.

His steps slowed as he heard voices. It was three in the morning, on a long and deserted country road. Who would be out here? He listened more closely, distinguishing that there were two voices. And they were arguing. For some reason, he was drawn in by the light, musical lilt in both of their voices.

“I told you we took a wrong turn, but you never listen, do you?”

“How the hell do you take a wrong turn on a straight road, jackass?”

“Call me that again, and I’ll knock you on your ass. We should have gone south. I don’t have a damn clue where we are, and it’s pitch-black out here.”

Panahasi watched as two men came into view. He stepped off of the road, backing onto the soft shoulder as the two men walked down the center of the road. They hadn’t even noticed him.

Normally he would have disappeared before being seen, but the pair intrigued him. He wasn’t sure why, though.

“I’d like to see you try. The last time you attempted to knock me on my ass, you were the one picking yourself up.” Panahasi watched, feeling a smile tug at his lips as they pushed each other on the shoulders. He could tell by the way they acted that they really wouldn’t hurt each other, but they were very entertaining.

“I’ll give you what for if you don’t shut up and leave me alone.

Every time I listen to you, we end up lost or in trouble. I don’t know why I even bother.”

“Because I’m cute,” the other one replied arrogantly. “You know you want my body. Say it.”

“I want you to grow the fuck up, too, but does that happen?

Noooo
.”

Panahasi chuckled. It had been a while since he was this entertained. It was a simple spat, nothing major, but for some reason he couldn’t quite name, Panahasi couldn’t take his eyes off of the pair.

They both stopped talking as their eyes grew round, finally noticing him standing there. He knew he was an intimidating sight. At nearly seven feet tall and a lean and lethal frame, he must have looked like a monster to them.

Neither of the pair could be more than five foot seven. And they were both slim and wiry. He could feel his cock filling out in his pants as he stared at a set of whiskey-brown eyes and then a pair of dazzling blue.

He was interested in them in the worst sort of way. It had been ages since anyone had appealed to Panahasi the way these two did.

They were both sprite-like, both looking as though they could cause quite a bit of trouble.

In the bed, that would be fabulous. Outside of the bedroom, not so much. Panahasi was used to his solitude, and he wasn’t sure taking on these two men was worth the headache he knew they could bring.

“Who the hell are you?” the whiskey-eyed man asked from across the road. “And where the hell did you just come from?”

“Drake, you shouldn’t talk to him that way!” the blue-eyed beauty scolded his friend. “He looks like he could kill us and cut us into tiny pieces with a hand tied behind his back!” The whiskey-eyed man, Drake, raked his eyes over Panahasi before he waved a hand at the leader, as if dismissing him. “Nah, he just probably listened to some dumbass and is just as lost as we are.
