“You just wait until I’m better. Once I am, I’m going to make love to you for a solid three days before I let you leave the bedroom. Will you marry me, Veronica? Please?”

~CHAPTER 21~

May fifteenth dawned bright and beautiful. Devin thought he was going to be sick. Every time he looked out into the church, it looked as if two hundred more people had shown up. He was an attorney for Christ’s sake. He could talk to anyone, talk to them for hours if need be. So why was this bothering him so much? He rubbed his belly again and looked over at Nicky who was smiling that stupid smile again.

Every time he looked at his brother, he was on his phone. He wondered again what sort of game he could be playing that would demand so much of his attention. Then realized that Nicky was probably checking stock quotes or something. Byron was doing the same thing. He was going to kill them both before this was over.

“Hey, I have something for you. I was going to keep it, but I thought you’d like to have it. Hang on while I get it out of the other room.” Byron took off toward the door.

“If it’s another fucking dog, I’m going to murder you. Dani takes up more room on the bed than I do and every time I kiss Veronica, she growls at me.” Devin wouldn’t tell anyone, but he actually loved the little thing. And if he could see Veronica’s face light up like it did every time the dog licked her, then he would have hundreds of them in his home—no, their home.

“You shouldn’t say the ‘f’ word in a church, Uncle Devin. Grandma is going to be mad at you. Again,” Jacob, Dan’s grandson, told him in a stage whisper.

“She won’t know if you don’t tell her. Besides, it’s my wedding day. I think I’m exempt today. Don’t you think?” Devin ruffled the kid’s hair.

“No, I think she’ll be mad and I won’t have to tell her. She knows everything.” Devin couldn’t argue with him there. His mom did have an uncanny way of finding things out.

His phone ringing startled him. Devin smiled when he saw who was texting him. Maybe she was going to say they should just elope.

“You’re brothers said you are getting cold feet. True?”

“No. Nervous, but want you to be my wife.”

“Me too. Your wife, I mean. How do you feel about being a dad too?”

“I’d love it. Want to start on that tonight? It’s been a long time.”

“Last night is not a long time. And you already have a head start. Found out today.”

Devin stared at the line on his phone for a whole minute. He wasn’t sure how much longer he would have continued, but her next line prompted him to answer her.

“Devin?? Are you mad?”

“God, no!! I love you. Really? We’re going to be parents?”

“Yes. Around Christmas time. Damon said he would be my doctor. Okay?”

“Oh, V, I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”

“Tee -hee, I love you too. Let’s get married.”

Byron came toward him just as he was closing the phone. He couldn’t help it; he grabbed his brother and kissed him soundly on the mouth. He was going to be a daddy, and without Byron’s help, it would never have happened.

“Save it for the honeymoon, you dork. Here, I got this from Austin at the charity thing before Christmas and I thought you’d like it. I don’t think you would have appreciated it so much back then as you do now.” Byron tore off the paper and showed him.

Devin had to lean against the wall or fall over. It was Veronica as a child. He looked up at his brother and asked him when it had been painted.

“Austin said that her father, Frey, showed up one day asking for Catalina.

She must have heard him and ran away. They found her in the garden waiting for him. Told them that if he was going to kill her, she wanted it to smell pretty when he did.”

“She had heather planted on her father’s grave from headstone to foot. I didn’t understand until now. She told me that there was too much evil coming from his grave that she wanted it to smell pretty.” Devin picked up the framed picture after handing Byron his cell phone. “Read Veronica’s last texts.” He knew when his brother got to the baby part because he whooped so loud one of the ushers opened the door to check on them. Devin didn’t even look up, but continued to stare at the portrait. He was going to hang it in his office as soon as they got back from their honeymoon. The door opened again, this time the minister telling them it was time.

Meggie came out first; she looked so beautiful in her long pink dress. Her dark hair was pulled back in a fat braid and she had pretty little daisies braided in it. She was tossing flowers on the carpet and looking for all the world like a little princess.

Next came Sophie, a girl that Ronnie was going to college with. She was a very pretty girl and, of course, Byron had already asked her out several times only to be turned down every time. Devin thought he could like the girl except she had this laugh that grated on his very last nerve. But she looked pretty in her long gown of blue.

The bodice was darkest and as the dress fell to the floor, the color faded to a very light blue. The dress was sleeveless and she wore long, elbow-length gloves.

Her hair had been pulled back in a coronet and daisies like the ones that Meggie was tossing out of her basket were braided in her hair too. The bouquet was of calla lilies and honeysuckle with long ribbons of white and blue.

When the wedding march sounded, Devin took a deep breath. They had all been very quiet about the dress Veronica was going to wear and he was excited to see her dressed in it. Spencer had been the only one to have seen it; not even his mom had been able to get a peek. When Veronica came around the corner on Austin’s and Ben’s arms, everyone else could have been stripped naked and having an orgy on the floor for all he saw of them. She was beautiful. More beautiful than she had ever been to him.

She didn’t have on a veil for, which he was grateful for; he could see the happiness on her face and the smile that lit up the room. And he would swear she was sparkling. She wore a tiara in her hair, which was hanging down and curly. He had asked if she could wear it down for him and he was so glad that she had. The dress was white silk and glittered off the candles and lights throughout the room. It molded to her body, fitting over her slim curves and full breasts like it had been painted on her. The bodice was bare to the top of her breasts and the way they spilled over the top made his mouth water and his cock twitch in his tux. With each step she took, he could see the full length of her leg from the split up the side that was cut to just about mid-thigh were he could see the top of her tight, high stockings and the navy blue garter there.

His brother Byron poked him in the back when he didn’t move to take her from her parents. The little laughter in the room made him realize that he had been staring just a little too long. When she was finally in his arms, he cupped the back of her head and kissed her, hard and fast. The minister cleared his throat and winked at him.

“Pay attention, young man. You have the rest of your lives together. Now, if you are quite finished, what say you we get you two married?” Devin nodded, but didn’t take his eyes from Veronica’s. He didn’t know if he would ever be “finished” with her.

“Dearly beloved, we are…”

And just like that, they were married.

Ronnie looked around the room in awe. She was married—and not just married, but also pregnant. Rubbing her hand over the flat surface of her belly, she smiled brighter. A baby, Devin’s baby.

“So, when were you going to tell me I was going to be a grandfather? Don’t look at me like that, Ronnie Grant. I’m old, not dead. You’ve been ill for over two weeks.” Austin was dancing the father-daughter dance with her and she smiled up at him.

“I was going to tell you later, I swear. I just found out the morning. I thought I had the flu and didn’t want to be sick in Paris. A baby, Austin. I’m having a baby.” She flushed when someone turned and looked at her.

“Yes, that happens when you go at it like bunnies all the time. I suppose this was planned? I’d hate to have to kill your husband now that he’s made an honest woman of you.” She looked up at him and he kissed her on the cheek. “I’m very happy for you, sweetheart. I’m not happy about watching that damned dog for two weeks while you’re gone. He couldn’t have bought it for you after you were married and home now, could he? Oh well, I’ll just have to figure out a way to make him sorry. Maybe I’ll make him do all my legal work for me for free. That would be worth it.”

Ronnie laughed and rested her head on his shoulder. She loved this man so much, he and Ben both. And when Ben came up behind her and slipped his arms around her waist, she turned and held them both. She had something to ask them first before she traded partners and danced with Ben.

“This baby will never know the things I had to live with growing up and it will never be unloved, I know that. But I was wondering if he or she could call you both grandda? I know it’s a lot to—”

She was suddenly being swung around the room. Next, Ben plucked her up and hugged her tightly against him, smiling brightly. She smiled; she guessed they were okay with it.

Her next dance was with Devin. They held each other so close she could feel his breath on her neck every time he inhaled. It was driving her crazy with need.

When he pressed his erection into her again, she looked up at him and flushed.

Need rippled in his eyes and she was suddenly wet with her own need. He leaned down and nipped at her ear; a shudder ran over her body.

“If I can’t find a place to take you very soon, I’m not going to be responsible for the show these people get when I toss up this lovely dress and fuck you right here. My cock has been hard since you came out of the back room and started walking toward me. I want to suckle on your nipples while I pound my cock deep into your pussy.”

“Devin, please.” She didn’t know if she could say anymore. All she could think about was his hot words being whispered in her ear as his cock brushed over her mound.

“There’s a little room just off the front of this place. I saw it when we were having our rehearsal dinner. Go there and take off your panties. I’m going to take you hard and fast before anyone misses us, all right?” He kissed her hard before she could answer and then stepped away.

Ronnie wanted to run to the room, taking Devin with her, but she also didn’t want to embarrass her new mother-in-law, not to mention Austin and Ben. She talked to a couple of people on her way there and even managed to have her picture taken once or twice, too. By the time she made it to the little office, she was panting and her panties were soaked though. The conference table looked sturdy enough so when she removed her white thong, she sat on it and lifted her dress.

When the door opened, she nearly threw her dress back down, afraid of who it might be. But when Devin started toward her after he clicked the lock closed, she unzipped the tiny zipper at the side of the dress and let her breasts spill out as well.

“Christ! I can’t wait.” His mouth covered her breast and he sucked hard on the nipple, making her cry out with pleasure. She nearly came up off the table.

Ronnie reached for his pants and had his cock in her hand in record time. He was right; this was going to be fast and dirty. His cock was hard as stone and she was so wet she was sure she was going to leave a stain on the table. When Devin pressed between her thighs, she nearly came when his cock nudged her opening.

“Lay back for me. Lay back and play with your nipples for me while I fuck you. I love to watch you touch yourself; you make my dick hard just thinking about you pulling on your nipples until they’re hard and red. That’s it, baby, harder.”

He surged into her harder with each thrust. Every time he rocked into her, she felt his balls slap against her ass. When he reached down and pressed his thumb over her clit, she came. Lights burst behind her eyelids; the room felt as if it flexed under the power of it. Arching up, she grabbed his shoulders even as another climax ripped over her, hard and fast, rolling along her pussy to the top of her head. She wanted to beg him to stop, it was too much, but she wanted him to fuck her harder because it was not enough. When he suddenly stilled over her, his whole body tense, she felt him come. Throwing back his head, he nearly knocked her off the table with the force of his pounding. Twice more, he rocked and twice more, she came. When Devin finally leaned forward and held himself over her with his good arm, she looked at him.

His face had a slight sheen to it, covered in perspirations like he was. His hair had fallen forward and it was longer than she had ever seen it. It touched along his neck. He lifted his head; she felt the loss of his touch immediately from her breast.

“I love you, Mrs. Grant.” His kiss was leisurely and thorough. He explored her mouth with his, using his tongue and lips to get to what he wanted. Ronnie tried to learn from him and was so happy when he groaned at her attempt.

“If you keep this up, baby, I’m going to have to fuck you again. You are much too tempting. I could stay buried right here for the rest of my life.”

“It might get a little crowed with our baby growing in there.” Ronnie wished she had not said anything. The look of pure horror on his face would have been comical if it hadn’t been so serious.

“Did I hurt you? Or her? Christ, Veronica, you should have reminded me.

We’ll have to stop this kind of sex right now. It’ll be just slow and easy sex from now on.”

She couldn’t help it, she giggled. “Why don’t we stop having sex all together? That might be better yet.” For a moment, she thought he might agree.

“Don’t be stupid, Devin, I was kidding. Damon said we can do whatever we have been doing; nothing will harm our baby. He said it got planted that way, it isn’t going anywhere now.”

“I want a second opinion. He’s old, you know. We’ll get a young doctor. One who isn’t...no, no young doctor. No one is going to be looking at you who’s under the age of fifty. When we get back, I expect you to take a two hour nap every day. And you’ll start eating—” She kissed him.

It was either that or kill him. It was going to be a long nine months.
