“It’s called
The Lovers Embrace
.”

“You bought this to symbolize us, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” I whispered, fighting the tears that were stinging my eyes. Why did loving him hurt so much?

“Oh, Beautiful, don’t cry,” he soothed, pulling me into his arms. “It’s my birthday. You can’t cry.”

“I’m just so happy,” I whimpered, holding him tight. “I don’t ever want this bubble to burst.”

“It won’t. You’re it for me. I’ll never want anyone else. We will
never
break.”

“You sound so sure of yourself.”

“Do you have any idea what you mean to me?” he sighed, shaking his head. “You’ve enriched my life, Jade. I meant what I said when you came back. This is for keeps.” He pulled me toward him, kissing me deeply before muttering against my lips, “You better finish dinner. I’m getting the urge to molest you, especially considering what you’re wearing. Those heels would look good hanging over my shoulders.”

“I was going to put a sexy red dress on to match them. You’re the one who told me not to change.”

“I think it was a wise choice,” he purred, moving to undo the belt on my robe.

“Oh, no you don’t. You sit down and drink some wine. I’ll bring the food out now,” I ordered, sternly. To my surprise, Oliver listened to me and took a seat.

The steak went over really well. He even enjoyed the potatoes. I couldn’t mistake the sexual charge around us, though, throughout the meal. It had been hours since I’d felt his touch.

“What’s for dessert?” His voice was laced with sex as he spoke.

“I’ve melted some chocolate for fondue. I thought we could take it upstairs?”

“Melted chocolate? What about whipped cream to go with it?” I knew where he was going with this, and my body began to convulse at the thought of his tongue all over me, tasting me, licking cream and chocolate off my body. “Where has your mind gone, Jade?” Oliver chuckled, snapping me from my daydream.

“We have syrup, too,” I smiled seductively.

“Umm…I think we can do something with all of those, but we’re not doing it upstairs. I’ve been dying to fuck you on a table all day, so that’s what we’re doing.”

“But it’s cold out here, I…”

“I don’t mean this table, Jade. I have another
larger
one inside, remember?” Holy shit! Oliver was going to fuck me on the table that once belonged to English Royalty.

I followed him back inside the apartment, my blood pumping with excitement. It may have been Oliver’s birthday, but I was going to enjoy this, too.

“You wait here,” he whispered, pushing me against the large table before undoing the tie to my robe and exposing my red underwear. “I’m going to enjoy this gift,” he said with a wink, licking his lips.

I backed myself up onto the table, letting my legs dangle over the edge. Oliver came back a few moments later with his hands full.

“Why do I feel like this gift is for me more than for you?”

“You know that isn’t true.
I’m about to eat the best meal I could ever wish for on this table.” Instantly, I was aroused. “But first, I need you naked.” He never liked to mess around. After quickly unhooking my bra, he slid it down my arms and off my body. I went to reach for his sweats, but he pulled away, shaking his head. “I’m not getting naked yet. If you free my cock, I’ll want to slam into you right away.”

“And that’s a bad thing?” I giggled,
playing with his waistband.

“With what I
have planned, yes,” he smoldered, capturing his lips with mine. I groaned into his mouth as I wrapped my legs around his waist, drawing him toward me.  “I need you to lay back, Beautiful,” he whispered against my lips, pulling on my bottom one with his teeth. I did as he asked, gasping as my back hit the cold table. “You won’t be needing these either.” The smirk in his voice was obvious as he gently pulled my panties down my legs. His hands caressed my feet first, then moved up to my calves. I was an overheated mess, and he hadn’t even really touched me yet. Gazing up at the chandelier, I tried not to think about how hot this was. When I felt Oliver spread something over my nipples, I looked down to see that it was chocolate.

Mmm, chocolate covered nipples—my favorite,” he teased, pulling me down the table so he could latch his mouth onto one of my yearning peaks. I had no idea how long he continued his torture, but my breasts were licked clean by the time he was done. “How about a little sweetness next?” he asked, squirting some syrup into his hand. I thought he was going to put it over my chest again, but when his hands slipped between my already slick folds, gently massaging the syrup against my clit, I couldn’t control my moans. I knew what was coming next, and my legs opened wider at just the thought.

“This is what I call dessert,” he murmured, taking a seat right in front of me. He threw my legs over his shoulders and began to lick my slick folds greedily. “Shit, Jade, you taste so good like this. And those heels…damn, I need to make you keep your shoes on more often,” he mumbled into my sex, sucking my clit into his mouth. I gripped his hair, rocking against the pleasure he was causing within me before giving up and letting his tongue take me over. I was a slave to his touch.

“What’s with the goofy grin?” I giggled the next morning. Oliver and I were still in bed, and were running late for work.

“Yesterday was the best birthday I’ve ever had. Thank you.”

“It’s a shame you were working, though. I really wanted to take you away.”

“You can do that next year,” he beamed, pecking my lips. I fought to keep the smile on my face, knowing that I wouldn’t be with him on his next birthday. “Come on, you can’t be late. I heard the boss can be a real asshole on his employees’ last day if they’re late.”

“Actually, I don’t think the boss could
ever
be an asshole. He might be an ass
man
, though,” I teased, getting out of bed and wiggling my butt in his direction.

“If we’re talking about your ass, then yes, I think he is.” He stretched out, smacking my butt. “Now go and have your shower. I’ll join you in a minute and wash your back.” Playful Oliver. I loved him.

I was solemn for most of the day, knowing that Alicia would be back on Monday and doing her best to make my life a living hell. Oliver wasn’t much better. He was agitated, barking orders at some of his staff. It wasn’t like him.

“Here’s that report you asked for,” I sighed toward the end of the afternoon. “Is there anything else you needed before I start to clear my desk?”

“You’re clearing your desk,” he pouted.

“I need to. It will be Alicia’s again on Monday.”

“All these years, I never thought I’d want to work with my partner. When you walked into my life, you changed all that.”

“It might be healthier for us. Time apart isn’t a bad thing. It’s only a few hours a day.”

“It’s not a few hours, Jade. It’s half the damn day. Sometimes longer.”

“I distract you.”

“Yes, but in a good way,” he smirked.

“You don’t need distractions right now. You’ve got a lot of decisions to make, and I can meet you for lunch whenever you want. It will be fine.” He sighed deeply but nodded. I slid onto his lap, taking him by surprise. “We’ve had the most amazing time. I’ve loved working with you, but you knew this wasn’t going to be permanent.”

“I know,” he sighed, wrapping his arms around me. “I love you, Jade. I have this deep longing inside me to keep you close. That’s all.”

“I am close. I’m not going anywhere,” I lied, closing my eyes as I leaned down to peck his lips.

“How about we go home? I’m done for the day, anyway. You’re right—I’m being silly. Alicia coming back doesn’t change anything for you and me.” My heart lurched at his words.
No, Oliver, you’re wrong. Alicia coming back changes everything.

“Admit it, I’ve done a better job than you
ever
did,” I glared at Alicia while I debriefed her on everything.

“Sonia suggested I get close to Dr. Reynolds. She wants me to make sure Mr. Kirkham isn’t hiding anything from you, and that Dr. Reynolds isn’t hiding anything himself. This mission is too big to just take your word for it.” She’d been back for a week and was already pissing me off with her attitude. She actually thought she was running this case because she’d been called back in.

“Oliver isn’t hiding anything from me. I can guarantee that,” I spat, crossing my arms.

“Sonia still doesn’t want us to arrange the steal until I’ve verified all the information. I think she’s worried you have a little soft spot for Mr. Kirkham.” I counted to ten, trying to calm myself down. When did Alicia suddenly start calling Sonia by her real name, anyway?

“That’s ridiculous,” I laughed, playing it off. I had
more
than a soft spot for him.

“Is he a good fuck?” My eyes widened at her question. How was that any of her business?

“Why the hell would you need to know that?”

“I’m just trying to be friendly.”

“We’ve never been friends. Whatever you’re trying to do, it won’t work. This is
my
mission! You’re only here as backup.”

“That’s what you think,” she sneered, tossing her dark hair behind her shoulders. “Are we done now? Or did you want another cup of coffee?”

“Oh, we’re done,” I replied, standing up. “When it comes to lunch dates, I’d much rather have them with Oliver.” With that, I left the coffee shop.

On my way back to the apartment my phone rang. I smiled, seeing Georgie's name flash across my Caller ID.

“What have I done now?” I teased when I answered.

“Where are you right now?”

“Um…New York,” I giggled, confused.

“I know that. I mean where in New York? Are you at Mr. Rich’s apartment?”

“I’m heading there now. I’ve just been at a coffee shop debriefing Alicia.”

“Can Drew and I come a see you? We’re on a small mission in New York right now.”

“You’re here? You never said anything.”

“It was last minute. Do you think your rich boyfriend will let us stay at his apartment?”

Boyfriend?
What the hell was Georgie sniffing?

“Ummm, well, he thinks you and Drew are married. You’d have to play your cover.”

“We can do that. We’ll get some wedding rings now.”

“Let me call Oliver first and make sure it’s okay.” I was excited about seeing my friends. Oliver would be more than happy to let them stay and I knew it, but I was a little worried about Georgie seeing me with him.

Quickly, I dialed Oliver’s number. He answered after the second ring.

“What’s Alicia done?” he teased. “I told you not to take her for coffee.”

“Nothing. I just finished going over the new filing system with her. I’m trying to mend bridges, remember?”

“I’m glad to hear it. Are you coming back to my office with her? We could have a late lunch.”

“I was going to, but I got a call. I need to ask a favor.”

“You can ask me anything, you know that.” I could tell he was shaking his head at me.
