Kira gave a growl of frustration and started to get up, but Asher reached out and snaked an arm around her waist.

“Come here,” he demanded.

“Asher, no! We know where this leads. You just said you don’t want me, and I don’t want my heart trampled again. I don’t even know why you’d bother with all this if you don’t… You know what, it doesn’t matter. Just… take me back to Baton Rouge.”
