We stopped at Nobu Dallas, a Japanese
restaurant at Rosewood Crescent Hotel, that’s at 400 Crescent Ct.
There, we sat on an elegant booth so the place feels more private.
In fact the whole place is, because I’ve seen a little number of
customers and they’re scattered everywhere so it’s so quiet. He
asked me what to eat and I said California rolls sushi, which I
really crave for, for months now. He ordered the same and asked a
white wine to accompany it.

“Are you okay?” The first real question he
asked to me. I don’t know why he asked me that when I don’t look
bad at all. Oh, maybe that’s his icebreaker, who knows?

“Yeah,” I answered with a curious smile.

“Good,” he said. “So how are you now?”

I didn’t get what he means by that question.
But I guess he wants to know what happened to me after he just left
at our last meeting without even telling me why, so I replied,
“Everything is fine,”

He nodded a little just to acknowledge my
answer. “And what happened to your friend?” he asked next. Oh, he
remembered her. Seriously? Does he make good impressions or
what?

“She’s great. And she actually made it,” I
said even if I’m not that sure if she has really or not.

“To the audition?”

“Yeah, audition,”

He paused for a while, maybe he made some
thoughts. But after that, “I could offer her with our other project
if she wants,” he followed.

Now that’s different. Shall I consider it a
pursuit or what? Pursuit in a way, if you like somebody else, you
should court somebody else’s family and friends first, right? I
know I’m being hypothetical now, I should stop it. “She’ll be more
than happy to know that,” I said to him.

“Good. Just tell me whenever she wants
to,”

Does he mean that this won’t be our last
meeting when he said “whenever?” But it would be nice if it won’t.
I smiled a little, “Yeah sure,” I replied. By this time, they
served our food on our table. Then he filled our glasses with the
white wine he ordered. And finally we started eating.

“So, you’re into Asian stuff,” he said. “Have
you been anywhere there?”

“Yeah, my father has a Japanese friend and he
got all the idea from him. And I wish I could,” I answered. I wish
I could go to Japan to enhance my karate skill more, at least.

“So never?” I shook my head. Then he focused
his eyes even more to me. “When can you leave?” he asked next.

I’m a bit confused with his question but I
think he means by my free time so I said, “I have vacant next
week,” I’ll be free from school from Wednesday till Sunday because
we have some school adjustments.

“You have your passport ready?”

Passport? I have it. I do. I’m already
twenty-one and even if I don’t have any travel plans yet, having it
ready all the time is a must I guess. “Yeah, I do,” I answered.

“All right,” he just said. Then he continued
eating. We continued eating. He drank his wine and I did the same
too. Silence followed us for a little while. Then, “What are you
going to do tomorrow?” he asked next.

“School, then I have my Big Dogs,” I
said.

“You work?”

“Yeah, I do some waitering there. Not that
hard, it’s bearable. I should be more responsible now, I need to
make ends meet,”

“Do you have actually a free time for
yourself?” he followed.

“I tried to. But I’m fine with it. I consider
it as an apprenticeship to a much serious life,” I hope he
understands what I mean by that–the reality. Study hard now and
work hard too later. I looked back to him and saw his eyes staring
at me. They’re much deeper this time and I can’t guess what they
want to say. “What?” I asked.

“What’s your plan in your life?” he
continued. I think I already said my future plans to him. And I
remember I told him that I have none yet. “Are you just going to be
honest with all of your intentions?”

Now he’s playing mysterious again. “What do
you mean?” I asked out of my curiosity.

He stopped in front of me and it lasted maybe
for seconds. But then he cut it out and resumed with his drinks. He
never answered my question then. I really didn’t get what he means
by ‘being honest with my intentions’. But I’m guessing he’s
referring to the other way around. And when I say other, I mean the
love life. People of business world and women like me know that
he’s a desirable bachelor. Ever since he became the Walter Wright,
no woman, even a single one was linked to him. Based on his
records, with my research, he has never had a girlfriend. Well
maybe he is just being safe or the records really tell the truth.
Whatever it is, I guess he is now ready to take that path, at least
in my opinion. He’s twenty-five and he’s matured enough if he
decided to do it so.

After that wonderful late night unexpected
and adventurous dinner, he drove me back to my apartment building.
And right, we just talked about stuff like that, nothing really
much deeper. It was like the continuation of our first meeting, but
a detailed one I could say. It was about three o’clock in the
morning when I got back to bed. And Elizabeth was still sleeping so
tight like I haven’t left her at all.

Chapter Six

I woke up late in the morning today maybe ten
minutes after the clock alarmed. Elizabeth has already gone out and
I remember that Tom will drive her to school. She asked me to be
with them but I said I don’t want to intrude their privacy, she
understood it so we’re fine with it. I didn’t have that much time
so I decided not to have breakfast and instead I just took a quick
shower and dressed up very fast too. I finished everything at about
nine.

Outside, when I got there, I’m kind of
worried because I know I’m late with my first class so I’m thinking
that a cab will save my day. But not when a black BMW sports car
stopped right in front of me. The window opened and, “Hop in, I’ll
drive you to school,” said Walter to me. You heard it just so
right, Walter Wright himself. Just so. I was in surprise of course
but it felt more of the other way around. It’s more of sweet kind
of thoughtful. I didn’t actually move for a while so he got off and
approached me, “I’ll drive you to school now,” he repeated. Then he
opened the door of his car and guided me till I got in. He rushed
his way back to his seat too. “You look surprised again,” he
followed.

He’s just right with that. I turned to him
and all that I can see is his adorable face. Seeing this kind of
face when you wake up in the morning would give you more reason to
wake up with this kind of person every morning. “I just didn’t
expect you,” I said.

He paused for a while in my eyes. Then, “Well
you should,” he added as he turns his attention back to the road.
Then he started his car and we finally left.

What does he mean with
well you
should?
Does it mean that I need to expect more of him? Does it
mean that he’ll do more surprising surprises to me? Whatever it may
be, I don’t know but I feel different about it. I’m starting to
feel different about it, about him. I don’t want to over think it
but I hope I am right with what I see about what we are doing now.
Well, I don’t want to expect anything from it so I guess I just
have to enjoy the moment first and just see what else it can give
to me later.

We arrived at school earlier than expected,
thanks to his handsome and furious car. Then I got off and stood up
first outside. But before he finally left, he asked me, “What time
are you going to go home?” Thing I didn’t anticipate again from
him.

“I’m done at two,” I said.

“Good. See you then,” he followed. So he’s
going to pick me up? Oh goodness, this is too much I know but this
is just so good! “Goodbye,”

“Goodbye.” And there he finally left me with
something so sweet in a small way to me. I just can’t stop myself
to smile with something I could say a little happiness. Oh what is
this I’m feeling right now? I’m getting crazy.

Inside, I hurried myself to my chair while
our professor is talking in front of the class. “Where have you
been?” worried Elizabeth to me.

“I overlooked the time,” I reasoned to
her.

“I gave you reminders before I left you,”

“Yeah, I got them, thanks,”

She gave me a wonder-filled look. Maybe she’s
wondering why I acted that way when I don’t do it and have never
done it before, “Are you okay?” she asked next.

I gave her the same look just my way of
avoidance, “Yeah, why?” I said.

“I don’t know but it feels weird,”

“I’m fine, don’t worry,” I just followed. She
actually woke me up telling me about the things that I need to do
before she left me this morning. And I acknowledged them all. She
even prepared breakfast for me. But all right, I admit I failed to
follow them. I don’t know but I’m just so stuck on my bed I don’t
want to get up anymore. Truth is, I was still dreaming about what
happened to me last night and I just can’t get over with it. I was
thinking about him. Just in the middle of the night, somebody
called you then asked you out and brought to a faraway place just
to share each other for a moment. That’s just spellbinding right? I
know I over react it now but that’s just it. There’s just no other
way to further explain it and I can’t find any words to describe it
as well. And now I don’t know if I’m really happy or I just feel so
light because what has happened to me was really good.

“Hey?” Elizabeth’s voice as she wakes me up
from my silence. Since I sat on my chair she has never heard or has
never seen me talking or moving at all. I’m kind of stuck somewhere
else.

I turned to her and she gave me a ‘what?’
gesture. But then again I just answered her with a little smile. I
didn’t speak at all. I grabbed my attention back and back to what I
was thinking before she disturbed me for a while. I pretended that
I am busy with what I write about what our professor is discussing
about.

After the class, Elizabeth and I went to our
lockers to keep our books safe there. Tom is actually around. We
usually have our lunch after doing it but today I said I will not
join them. “Where are you going?” she asked to me.

I can’t tell her the truth so, “I need to fix
something back to our apartment,” I lied.

“You can do it after,”

“Yeah sure, but I want to do it now,” I
excused.

She gave me a curious look, “Is there
something wrong with you?” she queried next.

“No, I’m good. Don’t worry,” I said last.
Then I kissed her goodbye, “See you later,” I turned around and
continued walking. And yes, I left them puzzled with what I just
did. I know by now Elizabeth is really kind of worried about me,
about what I’m doing at the moment. But I hope she understands. I
am just so lucky to have Tom with us, to accompany her, or else,
I’ll be needing a believable alibi just to convince her that I’ll
be out of her sight for a short while.

I strolled my way back to the point where I
was dropped off, that’s at Lynch Circle. That’s on purpose because
we don’t go there because Elizabeth and I know that Patricia and
Brenda, the recognized plastics in the university hang out there. I
said ‘recognized’ because they’ve been making such huge
achievements when it comes to the field of ‘plastic-ing’. I
mentioned this kind of stuff because once, they spread a rumor
about a junior student who sells herself to a rich businessman
because she always rides on a limousine after school. The rumor
wasn’t proved to be true but the student was asked to leave because
the school didn’t want to be involve in that kind of news and also
they preserve the Christian value they have. Anyway, today is my
lucky day because I heard that they are cheering for their puppet
boyfriends at the football match games so they won’t have the
chance to see me doing such thing like that.

There, a sedan limousine is waiting for me,
“Miss Alabama, please?” greeted the doorman as he approaches and
leads me into the car. I was polite enough to say thank you in
return. Inside, I wondered so I asked where are they taking me and
they said at Dear Clark. Goodness, the beauty house of the Dallas’
well-known Holly Dear! Well, she’s just the version of
stylist-to-the-stars Sally Hershberger. I smiled a little on my
couch. I know what it means, yeah right, make over!

So we stopped at McKinney Avenue, that’s at
Suite 101, and the staff was pleasant enough to carry me inside the
shop. Excitement and nerves started to fill me. I can feel the
presence of the place and it’s inviting me. “So you’re Miss
Alabama?” approached Holly Dear to me. Oh yes, in the flesh. She is
just gorgeous. I gave her a smile as my greetings. Then she looked
at me, “Oh you’re beautiful,” she expressed. “But you’ll be more
after some, maybe just a little touch from my playful hands,” Then
she let me seat on her lovely chair and started the tricks. I have
actually a long hair and it’s brown. When she said that I’m
beautiful, she said she means it. She means it in a way that she
doesn’t need to make my hair so complicated, that all I need is to
show my face even more. So she thought of me having natural flowing
hair. But she made a twist from it. She mentioned “show my face
even more” so she thought of doing a big pompadour to it. She did
it like you would on your hair normally, then she made some twist
and pinned it to secure it. Then she created a ponytail with the
rest of my hair then wrapped the top hair around the ponytail and
secured it with some bobby pins. As simple as that. She added there
it’s pretty and classy. “That’s the more there,” she said as she
faced me in the mirror after the magic has happened. I admit she’s
so genius. She just made my hair the beautiful as she promised it
would be. I gave her another smile. “Now off you go. Show your man
that charm you have.” she whispered to me last.

After that, we found our way at Hermès, the
Paris made boutique, that’s at Highland Park Village. There, the
staffs of the store are already waiting for me. They gave me three
choices and the strapless sage-green dress overshadowed them all. I
like it because of the sweetheart neckline and the skinny metallic
gold belt of it. Then I paired it with the same metallic
accessories just to show off my Texan fair skin.
