“No, just wondered.”

“Okay. Gabs, I’ll pop in on you later, okay?”

“Sure. Have fun.”

I MAKE MY WAY
to the lift at five to seven. I’m wearing a short but stylish black dress and killer heels. Even though we’re staying in, I want to look nice for him, and when the elevator dings and the door opens, I’m glad I made the effort. The entire entrance is covered in rose petals, the main door is open, and the petals lead a pathway through the apartment to the dining table, which is set for two. There’s a rich aroma in the air and Finlay’s standing in the kitchen stirring a pot on the stove, wearing a dress shirt and slacks, and no shoes. My mouth waters but it’s not from the scent of the food in the air.

“Hey, beautiful.” He picks up a tiny remote and pushes a button, and soft music plays from all around the apartment.

“Hope you’re hungry. I made my famous pasta sauce.”

That gains him a chuckle. “That’s what it’s called? Finlay Hayes’ special pasta sauce?” I ask, cocking an eyebrow.

“Okay, so I embellished an already named sauce.” He grins and gestures to the table for me to sit.

“It smells amazing. I feel sorry for everyone downstairs having pizza.” I laugh and his grin gets wider, showing off his perfect teeth.

“Wine?” he asks, walking toward me, holding a bottle.

“Yes, please.” I hold out a glass.

“Did you finish your assignment?”

“Yeah, I wanted to get it finished just in case I have to take time off.”

“Sure.” Finlay brings over the pot from the stove and places it in the center between our plates then goes back and brings a bowl of pasta, placing it next to the saucepot.

“Do you want me to dish up for you?” he asks, reaching for a spatula.

“Yes, please.”

He serves us both a plate full of pasta and sauce.

“I spoke with Gaby about the apartment today. I want to move my things out and let her have free rein. What do you think?” he asks.

I swallow my fork full of food dab my mouth with a napkin. “I think that’s a good idea. She’s older now and I have my own place so I don’t see why she shouldn’t. I actually popped in earlier to see her. She said you spoke. She also says that her inheritance hasn’t come through yet so she couldn’t buy the place from you.”

“Why would she have to buy it from me? I’m her brother. I want her to have it as a gift.”

“I know, I said as much. Gavin told her she should have had her inheritance by now which I think has her worried.”

Placing down his fork he grabs his beer, downing it in gulps. His mood shifts from happy to guarded and pissed off. “Gavin should mind his own business.”

“I agree. She was talking about using some money for a retreat thing with school and it costs a lot.” I take a sip from my wine

“Well, if she needs anything I will give it to her.”

“I told her that but I think she might broach the subject about her inheritance with you so I’m just giving you a heads up.”

He slams his bottle down, making me flinch. “Fuck!” He turns his green eyes to mine. “I’m sorry, baby, but why the fuck did he say anything to her? It’s nobody else’s business.”

“Calm down. What’s the big deal?”

He exhales hard, rubbing his face, then pins me with a stare.

“Finlay, you’re freaking me out. What’s going on?”

He reaches and grabs my hand, stroking his finger over my knuckles before dropping them and gulping down the last of his beer.

“She doesn’t have any inheritance.” He exhales again and leaves the table in a hurry, sending his chair sliding away. He lets out few cusses and braces his hands on the sideboard, hanging his head.

“I don’t understand. Why wouldn’t she?”

He looks up then walks back over to me, grabbing his chair on the way. He scoots right up in front of mine, grabbing my hands.

“Antonia, if I tell you this you have to never breathe a word of it. I need you to be my girlfriend not Gaby’s best friend where this is concerned.”

I nod, confused but intrigued.

“Promise me,” he orders.

“I promise. Whatever you tell me, you can trust me. You know that.”

He takes a deep breath. “Okay. Remember when I told you I found some things out about my mother?” I nod. “Well, she had affairs their whole marriage. My dad had a private eye following her. There was a folder full, going right back to when they were first married. It also had paternity tests for me and Gaby.” He lets my hands drop and starts rubbing his eyes. My heart is beating hard. He’s been dealing with finding this out about his mom and losing his dad.

“Oh my God. Finlay, are you saying he’s not yours and Gaby’s father?”

He looks me in the eyes, and I see the pain clear in his. He sits back in his chair. “He’s mine but not Gaby’s.”

I reach for my glass and drain the contents before refilling and drinking half of that too.

“Are you going to tell her?” I ask.

He grimaces. “No! She can’t know. It would kill her.”

“How long had your dad known?”

“About a year before he passed, apparently. He heard Mom on the phone talking about Gaby, and when he started digging around he uncovered all kinds of secrets she had. She was screwing her tennis instructor, she used to occupy her time with the help, men too young for her their whole marriage, but it was with an old friend that she kept going back to, and it made him question the paternity of us.”

“I don’t know what to say.”

“I just feel for him, what he must of felt finding out after all this time. I confronted Mom when I found the documents and she begged me not to tell Gaby. She said he changed his will, cutting both Gaby and her from it. She said he took care of someone else’s kid long enough and he was cutting Gaby off. He wasn’t like that, Antonia. He loved Gaby. I couldn’t believe it when she wasn’t in his will.”

“He found out life changing information. The woman he shared his life with betrayed him in the worst possibly way. He was more than likely just angry and needed to hurt her. He would have come around. He loved Gaby, we both know that.”

Pulling me into his arms and laying kisses on my neck I can feel his chest rising and falling.

“I’m glad you told me, Finlay. You shouldn’t be dealing with this on your own.” I run my hands up and down his back.

“I love you,” he whispers into my ear, sending a jolt through my body.

“I love you too.”

“Have you eaten enough?” he asks, his lips now hovering above mine.

“Yes.” I capture his lips with my own, coaxing his to part so I can slip my tongue into his mouth. He opens, eagerly welcoming my invasion, and caresses my tongue with his. Pulling me onto his lap so I’m straddling him, his arms caressing my back while our kissing goes from slow to fast and needy, he pushes my dress up around my hips and tears at my panties, ripping them in two and dropping them to the floor. My nipples peak and push against the fabric of my dress. He yanks the front down, ripping it slightly to expose my breasts, and groaning as he sucks a nipple into his mouth.

“You are so beautiful.”

I bite my lip and grind my hips against him, fumbling with his zip to release his ready, eager cock. Rising up my ass and slowly lowering myself onto him, we both let out a growl of pleasure as he fills my wet, welcoming pussy. I flex my body over him, grinding and rotating my hips. Pressure builds fast inside me, tightening me all around him, I lean back and grind harder on to him lifting my hips and bringing them down in a fast, tense motion over him. His fingers find my clit, massaging in a circular motion. I reach forward, gripping his hair, bringing his head against my chest. His lips find an aching nipple and when he flicks his tongue over it I convulse with needy jolts. He wraps his arms tight around my body, crushing me against him. My body starts to shudder as I reach my climax, sending a pulse of pleasure shooting through my body. I bite down on him as I ride out the pinnacle of my release, squeezing around his delicious cock, milking him for pleasure. He groans out my name as he fills me with his cum. We’re both panting and sweating as he holds me until my body stops shaking,

“I love you so much. You’re amazing,” he breathes between kisses.

“I love you too.”

“Sorry about your panties.” he grins. “I want to show you something.” He lifts me to my feet, tucking himself away and slipping his shirt off and throwing it on the table as he pulls my hand and leads me through the living space to the bedroom. He stands aside, allowing me to see an easel in the corner of the room in front of the window.

“Surprise! I brought you paints and brushes and everything you could need according to the sales rep.” He turns to me, his green eyes still ablaze from our lovemaking.

“Thank you.” My heart flutters.

He wraps me in his arms again, kissing the side of my head. “I know how much you loved the view. I thought you might like to paint it, but not right now.”

A coy smile plays on my face. “The bed is this way,”

FINLAY’S LIPS BRUSH MY
forehead and the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills my nose. I crack an eyelid and take in the sight of Finlay leaning over me, wafting a cup back and forth. Groaning a little, I open my mouth to pucker my lips.

“Bring me a straw,” I grumble.

He laughs and places the cup down. “Nothing wakes you up like the smell of coffee, baby.”

“I can think of something better,” I tease, lifting my bum slightly to tempt him.

He smacks my ass but doesn’t take the bait. “You have class, I have work, and we both know we will be late if I take that offer up.” He throws some clothes on the bed. “I got you some fresh clothes. I think you should leave some things here. I’ll sort you a drawer.” He grins over his shoulder as I eye the wrap around wardrobes that take up half the wall space.

“You sure you can spare one?” I push my body from the soft cushioning of Finlay’s bed, dropping the sheet and brushing past him with my naked body shimmying. I watch him take me in then he rushes towards me making me scream and giggle as he tackles me to the bed.

“Fuck it, we’re going to be late.”

I smile to myself as I go down in the lift thinking about Finlay making us late when the doors open and Mike steps in.

“Oh, hey.” He blushes and I can’t keep the grin off my face.

“Hey yourself,” I reply, stepping out and watching him as the doors close. I rush into Gaby’s and she is walking up her hallway as I open the door.

“Just saw Mike leaving.” I grin and she smiles.

“Yeah, he stayed. He says he’s ready to try again properly but we agreed to go slow. No pressure.”

“Slow? Gabs, him staying the night isn’t going slow.”

She shrugs and walks into her room. “To be honest, I’m glad we’re going to go slow. I don’t want to get in too heavy again right now.”

“Okay, listen, I have to go to class, but can we meet for lunch?”

She shakes her head. “I have classes all afternoon but I can do dinner.”

“I have an appointment at five but let’s make it a late dinner. I’ll pick up take out on the way home.”

“Sounds good. Have a good day.”

“You too.”

The day flies by and I’m half an hour early for my appointment with Dr. Evans. I pull my phone from my bag and scroll through my contacts, hitting the green call button when I reach Finlay’s number.
