What Led to the Discovery of the Source of the Nile
(now in the Huntington Library). Where he disagreed with a statement, Burton would usually write ‘rot’, as when Speke claimed to have cheered him up in his sickness. On other occasions he disagreed more elaborately, or with a simple ‘no’. But Burton made no comment of any kind against Speke’s claim to have taken command, implying assent.
