Laura nodded.

"I've decided that you deserve a break, so . . . I've
hired a maid!" her father announced proudly.

"A mai—" Laura said faintly. Her eyes got big. "A
MAID?"

Then she exploded with laughter. She laughed and laughed
until tears rolled down her cheeks and plopped on the kitchen table.

Mr. McCall and Trudy stared at each other with bewildered
expressions on their faces. Which made Laura laugh all the harder.
