“Just the hot ones.”

Liz grinned. “Damn straight.”

Jenesi giggled. When she heard her name, she spun around to see her boss smiling at her. Her ex. “Hey, Bart.”

“You look gorgeous.”

She blushed. She wasn’t used to the attention she’d been receiving since she’d arrived. “Thanks. How are you doing?”

“I’m well. Your class seems to be doing great. The parents have been praising you like crazy.”

“That’s good to hear.”

Liz gave her a quick wave and disappeared into the crowd.

“How about a dance?”

Jenesi glanced at Matthew, who was still busy signing calendars and laughing with the ladies. She didn’t want to be a wallflower for the rest of the night. “Sure.”

She took Bart’s hand and allowed him to lead her onto the dance floor. Awkwardly resting her hand on his shoulder, she pasted on a smile.

“How have you been?” he asked.

“Good.”

“I hear you’ve been dating Hunt.”

She spotted the curiosity in his eyes. There was no point in lying, since everyone knew they had shown up together. “Yes, I am. I’m really sorry about—”

“No, don’t be. I know you guys grew up together.” He cleared his throat as he spun her around with the sway of the crowd. “I know he’s leaving soon, as he always does, with his job, but I’d love to take you out again.”

Shock coursed through her. His sweetness gave her a start. “Thank you. I think.”

“I’m not one to pursue a woman after they’ve dumped me, but you and I have always gotten along. And I think, if you gave it a chance, there could be a future between us.”

Longing for marriage and kids rushed at her. She’d pushed the idea away since being with Matthew, but the desire was still there, buried under the fear of his leaving. “I’m still with him right now.”

“I just wanted to put myself out there for you, so you know.”

Softness curved his smile. So different from Matthew. She could recall every detail of Matthew’s face when he was mad, playful, happy, aroused, and no matter how much she was tempted by Bart’s invitation, he wasn’t her Navy SEAL.

She loved Matthew Hunt.

She’d never stopped loving him.

Throwing a glance to the far side of the ballroom, she spotted Matthew laughing at something the mayor’s wife said. Her heart tightened. “Thank you, Bart. You’re really sweet.”

He nodded sadly. They finished the dance, and Jenesi slipped out into the garden.

Chapter Eleven

They sat in silence during the whole drive to Jenesi’s house. Matt kept glancing over at her on the passenger side, waiting for her to say something, but she’d been quiet since he’d found her in the garden and said that he was ready to leave.

He’d been overcome with guilt for not spending any time with her. But something had happened between her and that nerd. He knew it. She’d disappeared after he’d spotted her dancing with her boss.

Anxiety had made him rush through the line of signings and pictures. When he was finally done, he’d quickly found her and whisked her off.

“You hungry?” He maneuvered the car into her driveway.

“No. I’m just tired. Probably shouldn’t have drunk so much champagne. I have a headache.”

He frowned as he parked the car. As they walked up the path to the porch, he took her keys and unlocked the door. “Did you have fun?”

She threw him a dim smile. “Sure. It’s not often I get to dress up and go to a party.”

She walked up the stairs without waiting for him. He closed the front door and turned off the foyer light before he followed. Once he reached the bedroom, Jenesi went to her vanity and sat down.

He leaned against the wall next to the mirror. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” She gave him another fake smile and removed the pins from her hair. Large curls fell to her shoulders. The bounce of her hair, the smoothness of her skin, and the curve of her bare back in the dress called out to him. His fingers itched to touch her, but he needed to settle whatever was bothering her first.

“Don’t lie.” He took her arm and drew her to stand before him. “Something happen between you and your boss? I saw you guys dancing together.”

She placed her hands on his chest. His heart pounded harder. “You mean Bart?”

He glowered. “What happened?”

“Nothing. He was being sweet. We just chatted about you and me. He asked about me seeing you after I basically dumped him. It wasn’t anything.”

“Then what’s up with the sullen face?” He leaned in until their foreheads touched. “I’m sorry I couldn’t get away from the crowd.”

“It’s okay. You were doing a good thing by signing those calendars and getting people to make more donations. Can’t compete with that.” She curled her fingers around his shoulders.

“What do you mean? You know I didn’t want to go to that thing.”

“I know, but it’s hard seeing all those women pawing at you.”

He calmed at her answer. Her jealousy comforted him. “But I only like you pawing at me.”

She chuckled and slid her palm over his stomach. “Why’s that?”

His breath hitched when her hand brushed his belt. “Don’t you know only you turn me on?”

She blinked at him in surprise, a frown marring her soft features.

Gently pinching her chin, he brought her lips to his. “What are you thinking?” he murmured against her cheek.

“You. Just you.” She pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth and took a step back. Reaching for the spaghetti straps that held up the top, she slowly released them. The material slid over her breasts to her waist.

The air in his chest rushed out as he took in the perfection of her curves. The milky whiteness of her skin made his mouth water. The pink of her areolae deepened as her nipples became erect. His cock thumped against the fly of his pants. He shrugged his jacket off until it fell to the floor.

Jenesi watched him with intense eyes as she slid her fingers to the waist of the dress and pushed the silky material over her thighs.

She wasn’t wearing any underwear. He groaned, taking in every detail of her beauty. Stepping backward toward the bed, she crooked her finger at him, and he followed. Once they reached the mattress, she lay down and drew him over her. “You know, I’ve never been this bold with anyone before. I’ve always been very conscious of my body.”

He trailed a hand over her shoulder to her waist and thigh. “You’re beautiful everywhere.”

“Only when I’m with you.” She brought her lips to his.

Desire and need tore through him. Hunger overcame him as he struggled to get his clothes off. He’d already loosened his bow tie in the car, but his shirt got caught at the sleeve, and she let out a giggle as she helped him.

Jenesi pushed him onto his back and straddled his hips the moment he got the shirt loose. “I’ve never imagined we’d be together like this.”

“Me neither.” He kissed her and curled his palm around her nape. Her nails scraped against his nipples.

Jenesi lifted up and stared down into his face. “Do you think you’ll ever get bored?”

“Bored with what?”

She moved to the side and reached for a pillow to cover herself. A vulnerability radiated from her. He sensed her hesitation. Alarm gripped him.

Matt hauled her onto his lap as she clutched the pillow. “What is it? You can tell me anything.”

“I know we’ve only been seeing each other for two weeks, and you have a few weeks before you go away, but….”

He shifted uncomfortably. Should he tell her the truth? Would she see reason or make him leave? “But what?”

She hopped off his lap and clutched the pillow to her front. “Where are we going with this?”

A lump formed in his throat. “‘This’ as in you and me?”

“Yes. We’ve never talked about it, and I figured you’d leave and we’d part ways but—”

“Whoa.” He stood and dragged her into his arms. “Who said anything about parting?”

She leaned her head on his chest. “So you want to continue this after you come back?”

“I’m not letting you go.”

Her eyes softened and arms curled around his neck. “Is…sex is all you want?”

He glared. “This is
not
sex.” Doubt made him release her from his hold. “Wait. Is it to you?”

“No.”

He caught the glitch in her voice. “Is it?”

“No. Of course not.” She sighed and got hold of his belt to draw him to her. “It’s never sex between us. I just got to thinking tonight what would happen when you leave.”

He recalled the missive on his dresser. He opened his mouth to tell her of the news, but her fingers drew his fly down and curled around his length. A groan ripped past his lips as all possible thoughts fled his mind. “I don’t want to leave you.”

“I don’t want you to, either.”

The guilt punched him in the gut. He knew he should tell her, but seeing the desire in her eyes, the feel of her grip around his cock, he couldn’t push the words out. He kissed her as she worked his pants down over his hips and to his feet. Stepping out of them, he lifted her up into his arms and threw her onto the mattress.

Jenesi giggled. “You do that so well.” She reached for him and brought him over her.

He’d never get enough of her. No matter how many times they made love, it wouldn’t be enough. He covered her face with kisses, trailing his lips over her chin to her chest and stopping to worship her breasts. While his fingers kneaded one globe, he used his tongue to lavish attention to the tightening bud of the other. She tasted of sweetness and spice. Her very own perfume drifted to his nose as he drew in deep breaths of her skin. A whimper sounded from her every time he nipped her flesh.

He reached the apex between her legs and teased her slit. Her back arched into his hand, forcing his finger into her wetness. It amazed him how fast she responded to him. Her passion, her pleasure, became his. He’d do anything for her.

Nibbling a path to her mound, he shifted his position until he lay between her legs. He breathed in her essence, the scent that belonged only to her. Giving her a tantalizing swipe, he groaned as he tasted her again. Need gripped him with each lick. He couldn’t remember ever enjoying a woman like this, ever taking the time to love a woman until she became a wild mess in his arms. He’d never found a woman who could match his passion, his roughness, or his lovemaking. But then maybe he’d never truly made love to a woman, until her.

Jenesi threaded her fingers through his hair, her legs going slack to allow him more room. Her trust in him nourished his desire to please her. He didn’t need a second invitation. He darted his tongue out to tease the tight bundle of nerves. Her hips pressed into his face as he suctioned her clit.

It didn’t take long for her to fall apart. He quickly grabbed a condom from the nightstand, donned it, and positioned himself over her. He found her opening with his length and surged into her welcoming wetness. Her spasms made her inner muscles grip him like a glove. He groaned at each pulse and pulled out, only to thrust back in.

He started a steady rhythm, but with her clawing at her back, he could tell another release was heading her way. With each rocking movement, her cries became louder, music to his ears. He covered her mouth, drinking in her passion, taking her as tremors tore through her body. But it wasn’t enough. He needed to own her, show her that no other man would be able to give her what he could, or make her experience such a maelstrom of emotions each time she found her climax.

He slid them to the edge of the bed then turned her around. She looked at him in confusion as he stuffed a pillow under her butt then he lifted her hips up so he could surge back into her. Jenesi cried out and gripped the sheets. With each rocking movement, he increased the pace, needing to get deeper, thrust harder into her.

Her cries grew louder with each push into her wet sheath. She called out his name, the sound playing on his emotions, plucking at the insecurity he faced. How was he going to leave her in a few days? She’d asked where they were headed, but was the choice really up to him?

He slid his hand around her waist to her center and found her clit. He flicked it once then pinched the taut bud. Jenesi jerked off the bed and screamed.

He thrust in and out, harder and deeper each time, then felt her inner muscles spasm and grip him in a death hold, milking every drop of his release from him. When the last shiver ran through him, he took his time turning her over and moving her up on the bed. He slipped on a new condom after tossing away the other and collapsed next to her before pressing a kiss to her shoulder. Arranging her leg over his hip, he entered her slowly. He wasn’t completely hard, but he didn’t like the idea of being separated from her for even a moment.

Jenesi sighed and tightened her leg around him, bringing him deeper into her. “I think we definitely broke a record this time.”

He chuckled and smoothed her hair over her ear. “I’m sure we’ll break a lot more.”

She peeked her eyes open and cupped his cheek. “I’d like that.”

His heart thumped as he gathered her closer into his arms. Here, with Jenesi, he’d he found his home, his paradise. But would she wait for him to return?

Chapter Twelve

Jenesi leaned her forehead against the shower tiles and let out a sigh as the hot water poured over her aching body. Matthew had already left her to start breakfast. She smiled as she traced a tile.

Even though he hadn’t told her he loved her, she’d felt somewhat reassured after their lovemaking last night. The little things he’d done, said, and the way he’d made love to her, told her enough for now. There was no point in thinking about the future, no point in stressing over it other than to take it slow and see where it led them. He cared for her and desired her over the other women, and she should be happy with that. Right? Besides, he’d admitted to not wanting to leave her, so that was another step together. At least he wasn’t saying they wouldn’t see each other after he returned to work.

She picked up the loofah, soaped it, and rubbed it over her body. Her hips were a bit bruised from his manhandling, but she loved it. She’d rather have him out of control and only aware of her than to experience the restraint he displayed in front of everyone else. It was a part of him he didn’t show just anyone.
