Epilogue

Spring the following year

Trey rubbed June’s stomach listening to the birds chirping in the lunchtime glow. He’d packed a special picnic for their Sunday out together. Max was sat with one of the many women he dated while Dale was playing Frisbee with his family. Lexie and Elliot had left to take a walk. Leaning against the tree, Trey read a couple of lines in June’s book feeling himself respond to the dirty words.

He rubbed circles between the headphones she’d placed on her stomach. She was playing some classical music to his son or daughter. Trey didn’t complain about what June did. He loved her for her quirky ways.

“You’re reading porn,” he said, kissing her neck.

“I’m not. It’s erotic fiction.” She lay against his chest. His legs were either side of her.

“It’s porn. Cunt, fuck, cock, pussy, it’s porn.”

She closed the book and glared up at him. “Do you mind? The baby could hear you.”

Leaning down, he kissed her neck. “He or she didn’t mind last night when I was talking dirty to you.”

Her nipples budded against the shirt she was wearing. They’d been married over four months
, and each month was always better than the last. When they’d discovered she was pregnant Trey had been over the moon. June was a little nervous carrying a child. She still worked at her bakery, but she’d employed someone to take over the bulk of the work. He knew she didn’t want anything happening to their little blob. It was how he thought of his child, a blob.

“That’s different. He’s asleep.”

Chuckling, Trey read over her shoulder and rested his hand where his wedding band lay over hers. Locking their fingers together, Trey felt happiness settle over him. Elliot and Lexie accepted him into their daughter’s life. It hadn’t been easy for all of them, but they’d gotten through the worst of it.

He knew it helped for Elliot to see his daughter happy. Trey was going to make every day for June a day to remember. She was the love of his life. He’d once been her enemy
, but now he was everything to her. He was her lover, her friend, her husband, and the person she could scream at because when it all came down to it, at the end of the night, it was with her he’d sleep.
