Thanks

We cannot say this enough, there are many of you who have stuck with us as we started from nowhere and now find ourselves with many excited readers, waiting for our next release with bated breath. You continue to believe in what we write, which is expressed by your consistent choice to give Amber Swann Publishing Inc. and its writers, Lawrence James & Mercedes Keyes another try. The world that is in fact more mixed than anyone is willing to admit, needs to be brought to the fore. To be fully explored, exposed and presented honestly. Because we're all about the love thing…Laz and I, this has been our choice of vehicle to bring it forth. While it is all fiction, it is built upon real life experiences, occurrences in history and from what is obvious around us and growing daily. The love between man and woman, no matter how different their surface package, what they feel in their hearts is strong, overwhelming, beautiful and true.

Thank you
dear readers for getting the point we're trying to make. From us, Lawrence James & Mercedes Keyes, with our heartfelt thanks to you… our valued readers…

Thanks as well to Dominic Davison – an incredible 3D graphics artist who contributed this incredible ship, sky, waters and island background. I positively love it – thank you! He can be found at Renderosity Galleries under artists …

In history, there are many "Hidden" instances of black queens, and princesses, so many in fact that I was astonished how those responsible for documenting history could dare just wipe them from the face of black history as if they never existed.

Webster Fields, the story of Lena, or – Princess Ceś alena is our attempt at bringing this back to the minds of many with a hope that they will be inspired to search out a real life black princesses, and from there –document each one. Also, interracial marriages did not just come about in this day and age; interracial marriages existed in a time period before slavery in the US – due to the many blacks who once lived on American soil as a free people before the slave act took off and ran with their lives. This would be in the 1600's, and even afterwards many more marriages between white males and black women took place.

However, due to the enslavement of these once free people, white males, spouses found themselves running for their lives with their black wives. While Manny and Lena are fiction, there were real men like Manny and real women like Lena who lived, loved and searched for a place where they could be, husband and wife without fear. For all of them, it brings our hearts joy that many readers have embraced this part of our history… and as much as this is hated by some hearing or reading about it - not all master - slave relationships were about rape, more often than certain persons are willing to admit, they were founded on love…as in the case of Manny & Lena.

Duo Dedication…

First dedication
… to my father, Maxie Lowell McMullin.

A strong black, racially mixed Mississippi man who studied and worked hard to become an air pilot. I've heard it said from someone in the family that he was the first black air crop duster in the state of Mississippi if not the entire South, whether it be rumor or fact, I like to believe that it's true. Following his divorce from my mother and her relocating with me to Chicago, he made it a point to fly there at the beginning of every summer to get me. He'd land at O'Hare field, call my mother and have her get me ready. I was excited and ready to go… my daddy was coming to get me. From the time I was 4 years old, until I was 11 he made that trip. Whereby, the first week of my summer was spent in the air, sitting behind him in a two seat, sometimes a four seat plane, flying to one place after another, making deliveries. I do believe he was the first Fed Ex man…lol. One thing I remember him always asking me, "You alright Sweetpea, flying with your daddy?" and I would say, "Yes daddy, I'm alright." He'd chuckle and ask, "You like it?" and I'd nod, then giggle because I was sitting behind him, no way for him to see my nod so with a beaming smile I answered, "I love it daddy! I'm gonna fly like you one day…right up to the sky…right above the clouds." He chuckled again, nodding his head and said, "Yes you are my Sweetpea, yes you are." Part of this duo dedication, I give to you daddy.

Second dedication

To my husband, Lawrence James… a strong white male with a thirst to know all there is worth knowing. Deeply in love with true history, resenting mans interference with facts that have darkened the places of black history. His make up to my surprise, is 70% Manny – I find myself shivering with every other scene between him and Lena, what a mirror. Well, I remember telling him the above story, about my father and our flights, and following a tight hug he said… "Well then Sweetpea, it's time for you to fly, and if you don’t mind, I'd like to be the wind beneath your wings, every bit of the way.” So, here's to, the two most influential men in my life. The two – that have contributed all the good stuff…to taking me up and making me fly. I love you both…

Family Reunion

My father, my father, who started it all,

the seeds that he cast, took root and held fast,

and our tree has grown strong and tall.

My mother, my mother, the rich fertile soil,

who took in his seed, and birthed in great toil.

Who loved and taught that in god we must trust,

and to succeed – our learning was a must!

My family, my family, they’re spread far and near,

to think of them makes my eyes fill with tears,

my need to touch base, I feel it so strong,

separated we’ve been, for far much too long.

My husband, my husband,
