“Umh, Farrah,
what did you do this time?” Asked Giuseppi cautiously, speaking
slowly and trying to be as unassuming as possible.

“The pyramid
must have known that I was thinking about Samantha.”

“Samantha! Why
would you be thinking of her?”

“I was just
wondering where she was. I was kind of worried that she had
followed us here,” responded Farrah, as she glued her eyes to the
faces of the two Fairies.

The image had
now become clear. It was indeed Samantha. She was floating in
Principessa Park and talking to her friend Roula Rouge. Giuseppi
attempted to ask Farrah another question when his friend shushed
him. She was listening intently to what Samantha and Roula were
saying.

What do
you mean she got into the Miracolo Cave?” Asked Roula, sounding
very shocked, her stubby eyes opened large, although masked by the
chunky folds of her cheeks.

I don’t
know how she did it, but I’m telling you she got in, and she took
some Tooth Fairy dust.”

But I
thought only Tooth Fairies could handle the dust?”

I know,
something is extremely Fairishy.”

Why didn’t
you take the dust away from her?”

Samantha took
a moment to speak.

It’s
useless to her anyway. Plus, I have a plan to get back at
her.”

What are
you going to do?”

A
devious-looking Samantha looked off in the distance at the Royal
Castle that was surrounded by dozens of purple clouds.

Well,
rumour has it that that silly little Farrah is going to enter the
talent contest. With the help of the Fairy King, I’m going
to...”

At that
moment, the image of the two fairies went dead.

“What
happened?” asked Giuseppi.

however,
Farrah had leaned in closer to the wall. She tried to imagine the
spell again. Although this time, the image of Principessa Park
didn’t reappear, it was too late. The two fairies were gone.

“Snap!’
shouted Farrah in frustration.

She pounded
her fist up against it repeatedly. When she finally stopped,
Giuseppi walked over to her.

“What do you
think Samantha has up her sleeve?”

Farrah rubbed
just under her neck and over the top of her heart as if trying to
heal it.

I’m
not
sure
, but you know
that she is up to no good.”

Having had
enough excitement for the day, the two Fairies slid underneath the
wall of the pyramid. Giuseppi extracted the two logs that were
still wedged. They both watched as the wall dropped quickly with a
deep, vibrating thud.

Chapter 19: On With it

Although Farrah
was worried about Samantha’s plan, she decided to go ahead with her
training. The talent contest was only a few days away and she had
no time to lose. Every day after work, Farrah and Giuseppi went
back to the training facility. Farrah continued to work on her
mapping skills and was now able to locate any position on earth in
10 seconds flat. She also faired a lot better in the weather room.
Having gained more confidence, Farrah had learned a number of trick
manoeuvres to help her in a windstorm. Her favourite was the
loopdy-loop. It ended with a kicked out back flip that almost
knocked Giuseppi over the first time she performed it. Even Bella
got a chance to test out the weather room.

Farrah thought
a little practice for Bella was a good idea considering that she
would be the one that would accompany Farrah on her missions down
on Earth. That is of course, if Farrah ever got a chance to live
out her dream. Bella was a little reluctant at first to enter the
weather room, but after a few hours, she was able to navigate with
the precision of a fighter jet. In the end, Farrah’s biggest
challenge was in the Pyramid room.

The problem
was that in the Pyramid room, Farrah was constantly distracted. As
a result, her spells either would halt without warning or would be
misexecuted. Although she had tried concentration strategies, she
struggled mightily.

“Okay Farrah,
good job. All of the trees in central park in New York are
elevated.” praised Giuseppi as he looked through the large sphere
at the centre of the Pyramid room.

Just then the
green foliage of the trees turned into pink cotton candy. It
tantalized the human children down below as they hysterically
attempted to jump up and grab a piece. Unsuccessful, the children
returned to their game of Frisbee.

“Farrah, did
you mean to do that?”

“Umh, no, not
exactly. The spell was going perfectly, the trees were elevated,
and then I guess that candy vendor riding on his bicycle distracted
me. That cotton candy looked so good, I guess I lost focus.”

Giuseppi
looked Farrah square in her eyes to make certain that she noticed
he was being serious.

“Farrah, you
have to be careful. If the King finds out that you are toying with
the people down on earth, he’ll have our heads.”

“Yeah, you’re
right, Giuseppi. It’s just so frustrating. I know how to perform
these spells, but for some reason something always goes wrong. If I
don’t sharpen up, there is no way that I’ll win the talent contest,
yet alone prove to everyone that I am a Tooth Fairy.”

Unknown to
Farrah, a Bellasimita had overheard what she had said. He had snuck
into the room and calmly sat in the corner. Bellasimita’s have two
large eyes, which change colour based on their mood. At that
moment, they weren’t focused on Farrah’s face, but on the two
stumps on her back that barely poked through the slits of her
dress. The eyes of the concerned Bellasimita’s had turned from
green to grey.

Farrah had
only read about Bellasimita, but she had never saw one in person.
What she did know however, was that they were small animals that
stand only two feet from the ground when upright. Although they are
round, plump creatures, this is exaggerated by the coat of fur that
drapes their bodies like a person wearing a snowsuit under a thick
wool sweater. Three large toes with toenails that curve into the
ground help to balance their large feet. Although their stubby arms
could be a nuisance, if a Bellasimita does entrap another creature,
their long lanky fingers are unusually strong. When holding up its
prey to its toothless mouth, it is said that they can swallow the
helpless creature whole.

Giuseppi first
spotted the Bellasimita. He was so startled that he crashed into
Farrah, causing her to tumble to the ground.

“Hey, what’s
the big idea?”

Terrified,
Giuseppi pointed in the direction of the Bellasimita who had gotten
up to his feet. This seemed to take a lot out of him as he began to
pant. Farrah started to walk slowly toward the creature.
Frightened, Giuseppi grasped Farrah’s wrist to stop her. Unafraid,
Farrah shook his hand away and pointed her own hand upward to
signal to him that she knew what she was doing.

She stopped
about four feet away from the Bellasimita. Farrah raised both hands
so that they were level with her ears to show him that she meant no
harm.

“Hello – I’m
Farrah…Farrah Fancycracker. Umh, what’s your name?”

At first, the
Bellasimita did not respond. Instead, he coughed into his hand a
couple of times. After scanning back and forth between Farrah and
Giuseppi, he spoke.

“Hello, my
name is, Picolotto.”

His voice,
although audible, was very screechy, which made it hard for the two
fairies to understand. Giuseppi crept closer to Farrah, after
having found his nerve a little more.

“Are you a
Bellasimita and friend of the Tooth Fairies?” asked Farrah as she
moved within an arm’s length from the creature.

“Ah, you have
heard of us. Yes, I am a Bellasimita, and yes, I am a friend of the
Tooth Fairies.”

Picolotto’s
voice did not sound gleeful. Instead, it sounded overly sceptical.
This made Giuseppi feel uneasy as he hid half of his body behind
Farrah. Every now and then, he would peer around her to get a look
at the Bellasimita.

Farrah was
about to ask a second question, but before she had a chance the
Bellasimita had begun to speak again.

“It is quite
curious I must say that you are able to hear me. Only a Tooth Fairy
is able to understand the words of a Bellasimita.”

Picolotto
rubbed his mouth with the back of his hand, releasing the spell of
disguise from his mouth. His next words were now clear and elegant
and heard by both fairies.

Farrah was
offended. Sensing this, and fearing that she was going to do
something stupid, Giuseppi leaned in and whispered into his
friend’s ear.

“Farrah, be
careful. If that is a Bellasimita, don’t let its cute and cuddly
exterior fool you. They can be vicious killers if they believe that
there is a threat to a Tooth Fairy.”

Farrah nodded
in understanding. She sucked in a tiny breath to settle herself for
a moment before she spoke.

Umh,
why would you think that
I
am
not a Tooth Fairy?”

The
Bellasimita gave a loud cackle that caused particles of dust to
fall from the ceiling.

“Well, the
most obvious give away is your puny little wings. Those twigs would
never be able to handle the far off distances at top speed that a
Tooth Fairy has to traverse at least a dozen times on a regular
day.”

Farrah felt
outraged once again. Deciding to ignore the insult, she responded
to Picolotto, not choosing her words too carefully.

Well,
Picolotto, I should have you know that I
am
a Tooth Fairy, I just haven’t received my
assignment yet.”

“Oh really,
then why is it that you, a Tooth Fairy, is unable to perform a
simple Levatato spell. The hysteria you caused in Central Park when
the children discovered that the trees were made of candy, won’t go
unnoticed. That’s what prompted me to come here. I knew that
something was up.”

Picolotto
smirked as he coughed into his hands once again.

Farrah felt
embarrassed as she tucked her wings deeper into her dress. Her mind
raced once again. She was fearful that at any moment the King would
come to arrest her. Unexpectedly, the Bellasimita sat calmly on the
ground. He requested the two fairies to join him, which they did
reluctantly.

“One of the
oldest legends told to Bellasimita young’uns, is that one day a
Fairy of Ordinaria blood will break tradition and become a Tooth
Fairy. 24 Bellasimita claimed to have found the chosen Ordinaria,
only to be disappointed time and time again. Being at the old-old
age that I am now, I have seen this far too many times. I gave up
believing long ago, but there is something inside me that is still
drawn to the legend. You see, the Bellasimita that finds the chosen
Ordinaria and helps that fairy to become a Tooth Fairy, would
become powerful – even more powerful than 10 of the most talented
fairies combined.” Picolotto’s eyes turned green as he was
momentarily lost in envious thought.

“Well you’ve
found her, blurted out Farrah as she excitedly got up to her
feet.

Picolotto
cackled once again.

“Ha, ha, ha -
what makes you so sure, because you were able to make it into this
room? You are not the only Ordinaria to have ever entered this room
you know.”

Unflinching,
Farrah took out her pouch and revealed the Pixie dust to the
Bellasimita.

“Yeah, but
have they ever been able to get their hands on this?”

Now intrigued
and slightly excited, Picolotto walked up to Farrah and dug his
nose into her pouch, taking a big whiff. He raised his head from
the pouch a few seconds later and smiled at Farrah.

“I’m
impressed. No Ordinaria has ever handled the dust of a Tooth Fairy
before. But before I get my hopes up, you have to come with
me.”

Standing up
and waddling as fast as he could out the door, the Bellasimita was
off. Giuseppi and Farrah ran to catch up to Picolotto. They could
hear him breathing heavily as they walked beside him.

“Where are we
going?” asked Farrah sounding a little annoyed.

The
Bellasimita stopped briefly to look at Farrah.

“To find out
if you really are a Tooth Fairy.”

Chapter 20: The Right Stuff

Farrah
continued to walk alongside the Bellasimita. They walked past the
Map building and approached the Cornuto forest that lined the
perimeter of the training grounds. Without hesitation, Picolotto
walked directly into the thick brush of the forest. Farrah and
Giuseppi halted a few inches from the wooded mass. After a few
seconds, Picolotto poked his head out from under a large branch.
His head seemed to float as the rest of his body was covered by
foliage that hung off the branches.

“Umh, are you
guys coming or what?”

“But- you’d
b-b-be crazy to e-e-enter into the C-C-C-ornuto forest without the
escort of the S-S-Securo Fairies!” replied Giuseppi, his mouth
shaking with terror, scattering his words.

“Bah, the
Securo Fairies – they’re just a bunch or hairy, overgrown ogres. If
a Cornuto really wanted to hurt a fairy, there would be no defence
against one.”

Picolotto
could see that Farrah shared his scepticism. He came out from the
thick underbrush and approached her.

Listen,
young fairies, I haven’t seen a Cornuto in years. Word is that they
are dying off. Plus if we do encounter one, any
Tooth Fairy
could use their vast arsenal of spells to
protect themselves.” Picolotto shot Farrah a condescending
look.

Picolotto
grabbed the hands of the two fairies and marched them into the
forest. He had taken out an object that looked much like a sword.
This sword however, was see-through except for a jelly-like
substance that floated around within the blade. Every now and then,
the blade would glow red and sparked as Picolotto destroyed the
overhanging branches to clear a path for them.
