“It’s just
over here,” spoke Picolotto as he pointed his sword.

Although
Farrah had expected to see some hidden village as she walked deeper
into the forest, all she saw was a massive pit. The hole was
immense, over 50 feet in circumference. Curious, Giuseppi strolled
to the edge of pit. Apparently, he had walked too close for
Picolotto’s liking as he started to yell.

“Get back,
young fairy! This place is more dangerous than you can imagine,
especially for an Ordinaria.”

Giuseppi shot
Picolotto a quick look, but after taking a glimpse at the inside of
the pit, he understood. At the very bottom about 20 feet down,
flowed an unusual substance. Almost like lava, but it did not glow
as brightly. An unbearable stench emitted from the pit. It forced
both Giuseppi and Farrah to plug their noses.

“Well there
you have it – the Molar Maker.”

“The what?”
questioned Giuseppi who took as seat on a rock adjacent from the
pit. He took a deep whiff as if to savour the stench.

“The Molar
Maker – it is the place us Bellasimita created to prove if a fairy
is actually a Tooth Fairy. Oh, I remember the last time I was here.
It was long ago when I was much, much younger. I had met a young
fairy boy- he was so talented. He knew all of the spells and had
unusually large wings for an Ordinaria. At the request of the Fairy
King, I brought him here to test his wits. Poor boy stood no
chance. Darn thing, I can’t even remember how many Fairies we have
lost to the Molar Maker.”

The
Bellasimita hung his head in remorse for a second. Farrah walked up
to him and placed her hand on his cheek.

“What
happened?” asked Farrah cautiously.

Picolotto
coughed to clear his throat.

“Well, Farrah,
when a real Tooth Fairy jumps into the pit, just before they hit
the hot stuff, they float back up to the surface.”

“But
Picolotto.” Questioned Farrah wiggling her wings suspiciously.

“Oh, don’t
worry, Farrah, it has nothing to do with your wings. The heart of a
Tooth Fairy acts like a helium balloon when in danger. It is able
to lift a Tooth Fairy out of harms way if need be.”

Giuseppi
jumped into the conversation after having bit his tongue long
enough.

“Farrah, I’m
not going to let you do this. It’s not worth it. If something ever
happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.”

Farrah
felt torn. On one hand, she was petrified of plummeting to her
death. On the other hand, her inner confidence was strong. She felt
the same instincts that she did when she was back at the Miracolo
Cave. She turned to Giuseppi, and touched
him
on his cheek.

“Giuseppi, I
know that this is scary. The stench alone could kill a fairy. But
if you look at it the other way, in a few short minutes, I will
finally find out once and for all if I am a real Tooth Fairy.”

Picolotto had
jumped in between the two fairies.

“Now that’s
the spirit, Farrah, let’s get this thing started.”

“But Farrah…”
persisted Giuseppi, but it was hopeless. Farrah was in her own
world not to be deterred. She had convinced herself that this was
what had to be done. Nothing was going to stop her from going
through with what she believed was her destiny.

Picolotto used
his sword to etch out an X into the ground at the lip of the Molar
Maker. He instructed Farrah to stand on it, which she did
obediently. From out of the top of Picolotto’s sword shot a long
flame. It danced like a feather in the wind as it hovered above the
hole. He began to chant in an unusual language not understood by
the two fairies.

VENNO,
MONISIMMA, CAPISHARE, TUTIMMI,

PECHARE,
QUESTIMATO, DANCARETI, PORFAVERISO,

UOMINASSO, MO,
MO, MO!”

Picolotto gave
a nod which caused his bushy fur to ripple. It was the signal for
Farrah to jump. Farrah nodded and took a deep breath. Instinctive
yet confident in her hope that she would finally find out the
truth, she leaped into the gaping hole. Giuseppi’s jaw dropped as
Farrah heaved her body into the pit. He closed his eyes
quickly.

It was as if
Giuseppi was witnessing a dream. Although the suspense was
unbearable, he forced himself to re-open his eyes, a decision that
he would come to regret.

Farrah hovered
over the top of the pit. Hot lava goo shot out all around her. She
was motionless. Floating calmly, Farrah was unfazed by her chaotic
surroundings. Giuseppi took this as a good sign, but Picolotto’s
reaction quickly changed his mind.

“Farrah, can
you hear me!” shouted Picolotto as he walked around the pit not
taking his eyes off her. When there was no response, he began to
talk to himself.

“Oh, my
Fairiness. What has happened? I have never seen the Molar Maker do
this before. I must abort this test!” He pointed his sword at
Farrah, but before he had a chance to do anything, Farrah
disappeared, plummeting unexpectedly into the pit.

Chapter 21: A Change

Giuseppi felt
helpless. What he had experienced was intensity like none other –
almost too much for his nerves to bare. Looking at the grim
expression on Picolotto’s face made matters worse. The Bellasimita
tried frantically to think of a plan, looking at his sword and back
to the pit at a dizzying pace. Panic had overcome Giuseppi. His
body felt paralyzed as he stood catatonically, looking on at the
massive pit that had consumed Farrah’s body. Feeling that he had to
do something, he started to call out for his friend.

“Far-rah!”

He continued
to yell until his throat became sore. His fear then turned to anger
as he locked eyes with Picolotto.

“What have you
done?” questioned Giuseppi heatedly as he regained feeling in his
limbs and walked to the lip of the pit. The lava goo had
intensified and was spurting out in all directions. A tiny droplet
fell on Giuseppi’s arm, but he dared not yell out as a show of
respect for the torture that his friend had surely endured.

Picolotto used
his sword as a spotlight to look down into the pit, but the erratic
lava made it hard to see anything. Without warning, the lava goo
stopped spewing. Giuseppi retuned to the edge of the pit
cautiously. He got down on his stomach and peered over the edge.
The paralyzing fear returned when he realized that Farrah was
nowhere to be seen. Tears welled up in his eyes as his face turned
red with anger. Once again, Giuseppi rushed over to Picolotto who
had taken a seat on a rock. He was huffing and puffing as he wiped
sweat away from his brow.

“You killed
her!” shouted Giuseppi with his fist cocked, ready to strike.

Picolotto got
up and held his sword out toward Giuseppi’s face, his eyes now red
with rage.

“Listen, young
fairy, it is not my fault that your friend believed she was a real
Tooth Fairy. If she wasn’t so delusional, she would still be alive
right now.”

“How dare
you!” rebutted Giuseppi as he clenched his fists even tighter.

With the sword
a mere inch from his face, Giuseppi retreated. He fell back onto
his hands and sat frozen on the ground. Picolotto continued to walk
around the pit as he peered inside using the light of his sword.
Giuseppi started to sing. It was the song of death. The same song
that his mother sang when great, great- grandfather Gorgonzilli had
died.

Young
Fairy, don’t be afraid, my time has come,

just like I
knew it would.

Young Fairy,
when I was young, I never thought it would happen,

But I lived
life as I should.

Always
remember to reach for the stars,

To dream the
unbelievable dream,

To capture
each moment.

Young Fairy, I
am at peace, I am ready,

To live on
forever.

While Giuseppi
repeated the song for a third time, he was interrupted by
Picolotto.

“Shhhhh, I
think I hear something!”

Giuseppi
rushed over to where Picolotto was standing. As they both looked
down into the pit, they heard a deep, rumbling sound, much like a
transport truck cruising on the highway, shaking everything on the
road.

“Hey look!”
shouted Giuseppi as he pointed down into the pit.

“It’s
bubbling.”

The stench
intensified to the point that even Picolotto had to shield his nose
with his arm. Giuseppi leaned over into the pit as far as he could
to get a better look, gripping the edge with his free hand.

“Giuseppi get
back!” shouted Picolotto.

The rumbling
got louder and the bubbles became larger until it formed one
enormous bubble at the centre of the pit. It looked disgusting,
like a ripe pimple. Just like a freshly squeezed pimple, the large
bubble burst.

The red lava
goo shot up into the air. Giuseppi and Picolotto took cover behind
a large rock. When the coast was finally clear, they walked back
toward the pit, but this time there was a surprise waiting for
them.

Farrah hovered
over the pit. Her eyes were closed and her arms and legs were limp.
She was inside another bubble. Although transparent, the bubble
glowed neon green.

“Farrah,
Farrah, are you alright?” Yelled Giuseppi, but she was not alright.
There was no reaction.

“You have to
do something!” Giuseppi hollered at Picolotto who was standing at
the edge of the pit in shock at what he was witnessing.

Picolotto took
out his sword, aimed it at the balloon and zapped it with a
lightening bolt. Unfortunately, the bolt bounced off the balloon
and jetted past Giuseppi’s ear. Picolotto tried a few more times
until he decided to change up his tactic. This time he swirled his
sword in a tiny circle until a fireball formed at the end of his
sword. When he launched the ball of fire, tomahawk-like at the
bubble, it did not penetrate sphere. Instead, the fireball engulfed
it entirely.

A small strand
of fire tethered the ball to Picolotto’s sword. He pulled the ball,
like an anchor, towards him. The bubble moved slowly until it no
longer hovered over the pit. Satisfied with the bubble above
ground, Picolotto released the fireball. At that very moment,
bubbles cracked like glass causing Farrah to drop to the
ground.

“Farrah!”
screamed Giuseppi as he rushed over to his friend. Flat on the
ground, her body was limp.

Giuseppi
crouched down next to her. He looked over her bruised body and took
a hold of her shoulders. He began to shake her frantically. With
Farrah’s neck flapping back and forth, the unbelievable happened.
She opened her eyes.

“Farrah,
Farrah, are you alive?”

“Wha-what? Did
I get it?” Farrah asked in a breathless voice.

“Did you get
what?” asked Giuseppi.

“The crystal
star.”

Upon hearing
these words, Picolotto rushed up to Farrah.

“You mean you
saw the star of Fantaseea?”

Farrah sat up
and looked at Picolotto.

“I actually
had my hands wrapped around it when I was sucked up like a magnet
into this balloon.”

Picolotto
nodded his head, impressed by Farrah’s words. Giuseppi got down on
his hands and knees in search of the star. Brushing away an
antipede mound he found the crystal object tucked behind it, about
two feet from where Farrah lay.

“Here it is!”
Yelled Giuseppi as he got back up to his feet and ran over to
Farrah.

Picolotto
couldn’t take his eyes of the star. It was as if they had become
magnets and were drawn to it.

“What is it?”
asked Giuseppi as he handed back to Farrah.

Picolotto
walked over and placed a hand on the star.

“The Star of
Fantaseea is a great source of power, probably the greatest source
of power that the Universe has ever known. Up until now, nobody
knew if it really existed. It was said that over 1000 years ago,
when the Fairy King Grandiossi ruled over the land, he dropped the
star into the pit to guarantee that it would burn forever. Many
Bellasimita have lost their lives trying to recover the star.
However, this was not to be. It was said that only a fairy of
extraordinary talent, what we call a Tuttatti, would have the Star
of Fantaseea revealed to him or her.”

“What exactly
is a Tuttatti Fairy?” asked Giuseppi in bewilderment.

“A Tuttatti
has the ability to instantly change into any fairy of their
choosing. Once changed, they hold all of the powers, spells and
gifts of that fairy. For example one can turn into a Fairy
Godmother for wisdom and then instantly into a Fairy Princess for
strength.”

“Are you
saying that Farrah is a Tuttatti?”

Picolotto’s
eyes fell upon Farrah, who remained quiet, barely processing the
unrealness of the conversation.

“She might
just be.” responded Picolotto as he grinned from ear to ear.

Chapter 22: Tuttatti and a Star

Farrah and
Giuseppi decided to walk home, but not after an awkward
conversation with Picolotto.

“Why don’t the
two of you spend the night. The day’s events must have rendered you
extremely tired.”

“Oh…no that’s
okay,” responded Farrah who suspected that the Bellasimita’s true
motive was to keep his eye on the crystal star.

Bella slurped
Farrah’s face upon seeing her bruised cheeks. Although thankful for
her concern, Farrah instructed Bella to fly home. She wanted a
chance to collect her thoughts. Farrah held the Star of Fantaseea
in her hand. She felt it best to keep it in plain site, especially
since Picolotto looked on suspiciously, as they moved away from the
Molar Maker.

Farrah walked
with Giuseppi up to the entrance of his house. They tried to avoid
a group of nosey Tinker Fairies that floated by. One remained,
hovering over Giuseppi’s house, having caught a glimpse of the
glistening crystal. Luckily, a stern look from Farrah was all it
took to get the Tinker Fairy along on her way again.
