I sat at the piano, letting my fingers caress the cold, ivory keys.
Infatuated?
Is that what this was, an infatuation? My fingers began working the keys, not knowing what I wanted to play. Slowly they started, and the composition became clear to me. “Tears” from Rachmaninoff’s Suite for Two Pianos Op 5 No 1 III filled the room as I thought over the word and my situation. I wanted to believe that’s all it was and eventually it would burn itself out and life would return to normal. However, at this moment, I couldn’t think about what life would be like without her. Calida was the first person I’d let in. I found it hard to remember how my life was before she’d stumbled into it, and as I came to the end of the song, I realized I wasn’t sure if I wanted to.

“So where are you going tonight?” Macy asked, helping me get ready for my date.

She and Seth weren
’t best buds, but she was more open now seeing how happy I’d been the last month or so. She wasn’t ready to completely forgive and forget, but she was open to maybe a second chance. That was good enough for me. We could now talk and gossip like we used to, and she seemed genuinely interested. She was very proud of the fact that I had lost my blowjob virginity.

“I don
’t know the place. He just said he wanted to take me clubbing, which is odd. He doesn’t seem like the club type,” I responded, checking my reflection again in the mirror. “You sure I shouldn’t change?” I asked, still not feeling comfortable in this dress.

Macy had talked me into buying it; or rather she bought it while we were out shopping for her Vegas trip. The teal color was great. The length, however, was super short, and the deep V in the front barely contained me. I wouldn
’t be doing too much dancing, and I feared Seth would not approve.

“No, besides, that dress makes your boobs look great,” she said with a huge grin. “Are you coming home tonight?”

“Probably not,” I replied somewhat sadly.

As much as I enjoyed my nights with Seth, I wished we could spend them at my house. No matter how many times I was at his, I couldn
’t shake the creepy feeling the place gave me. But he liked his privacy and having me all to himself, so I stayed there to make him happy.

“I
’m heading over to Mitch’s, so I needed to know if I should leave a light on for you.”

“Oh, well have fun, and don
’t forget to set the alarm,” I said, giving her a friendly smile.

“Yes mother,” she replied, rolling her eyes. “I
’m glad Mitch is getting busier, but a girl needs to get some every once in a while. All those old bitties wanting to look like they are twenty again are taking up too much of his time. He’s a plastic surgeon not a fucking magician.”

We both burst out laughing at her comment. Mitch
’s practice had gotten off to a slow start, but things were getting busier now that word of his reputation was getting around.

“Mace, I think you overdid it with the
makeup,” I commented, catching a glimpse of my reflection again.

She started to respond but we were interrupted by the doorbell.

“He’s early. Anxious to get his hands on you I guess,” Macy said as she went to answer the door.

I quickly packed an overnight bag not wanting to make him wait too long. I didn
’t need much since Seth insisted on me keeping things at his house. However, to keep from feeling like I lived there, I always took a bag, even if it went unused.

“Well, if it isn
’t the Wicked Bitch of the East. How so very like you to show up unannounced and uninvited.”

I knew it wasn
’t Seth when I heard Macy’s greeting.

“Ah Macy, always such a pleasure to talk to,” her nasally voice rang out in my ears.

Oh no. No. No.
Her being here couldn’t be a good thing. I hadn’t seen her since I’d moved. We’d barely talked on the phone. When we did it, was only for holidays, and I’d kept it as brief as possible.

“Is she here?”

“Well, that depends, Satan. Is Hell out of souls and you’ve come to suck up more?”

I heard Dorian give a gasp over Macy
’s insult. I smiled listening to her. Those two have never gotten along and Dorian couldn’t stand the names Macy called her.

“Can
’t I just want to see my sister? It has been years.”

“Go shovel that shit somewhere else. You didn
’t make a four hour drive just because you missed a sister that you don’t even like.”

My hands were shaking. I was a grown woman, yet the moment I heard her voice, I felt like that five-year-old little girl again being told I needed to leave and go find my real home. I took a few deep breaths. I couldn
’t hide away in my room; I was going to have to deal with her.

“Hello Dorian,” I said as I stepped out of my room.

I watched as she sailed past Macy, walking into the house as if she owned the place. She looked as good as ever. The stress of her job hadn’t affected her at all. Her blonde hair was cut in a short stylish bob, and every strand was perfectly in place. Her makeup looked as if she had just stepped off the runway. I didn’t see a single blemish or age spot. Even at thirty-six, she managed to look better, and more put together, than I did.

“I, um, this is a surprise. Why didn
’t you tell me you were coming?”

“I
’m sure I called or meant to call,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “Oh well, doesn’t matter. I’m here and we have some catching up to do.”

She pulled me into an awkward hug. I saw Macy roll her eyes then mimic Dorian
’s actions as she shut the door. I couldn’t help but to laugh a little which caused Dorian to give her a death glare. She looked me up and down, and her face contorted in disapproval.

“What on earth are you wearing? Are you stripping to make a living
? No self-respecting woman would go out in public wearing that otherwise.”

I found myself tugging at the deep V in the front of the dress, attempting to close the gap somewhat.

“You’ve let that god-awful hair of yours grow out I see,” she continued, picking up a strand of my hair.

My hand went up to smooth down my hair; her displeasure was making me very self-conscience.

“I wish you would have called. I have plans.”

“Can
’t they wait?” she asked as she glanced around the house. Dorian wrinkled her face in disgust at her surroundings before she looked back at me. “If you are a stripper, you can’t be a very good one looking at this place. It could use some work. At least Mom and Dad can be proud of one of their children.”

She
’d been in my presence less than ten minutes and I already felt like a child again.
“I was a mistake”, “Mom and Dad didn’t really want you,”
her hateful words replayed loudly in my head.

“So, back to my visit, go change. We have things to talk about.”

“Um…” I glanced at Macy who was not looking pleased. “Well…”
I can say no. I can say no. I can say no.
I chanted to myself, but before I could respond, I was literally saved by the bell.

I
’d never been so happy to see Seth than I was at that moment. His choice of clothing made me second guess my own. He wore a pair of dark slacks with a red shirt and gray sports coat; not your typical clubbing clothes.

“Good evening, Macy,” he said, stepping into the house.

“Hello, Seth,” she replied.

Dorian turned around and gave Seth an appreciative glance. “Wow, Macy, I
’m impressed.”

Macy smiled as she closed the door. “Thanks,
Your Majesty, because you know I live to impress you. Seth, meet Dorian, Calida’s bitch of a sister.” Seth extended his hand to Dorian. “Dorian, meet Seth, Calida’s…”

“Inamorato,” Seth completed for her, kissing the back of Dorian
’s hand. “Un piacere conoscerti,” he continued, giving Dorian that seductive smile which always made my heart melt.

“Oh my.
I don’t know what you said, but it doesn’t even matter,” Dorian swooned.

She actually looked flustered
; that was a first. I’d always thought she was immune to such things. It hurt a little to watch him flirt with her, especially since he’d yet to so much as glance in my direction. As if reading my thoughts, Seth gave a quick glance and smile at me before turning back to Dorian.

“I said it is a pleasure to meet you. Calida has told me so much about you.”

“Macy, I must say your friend here is quite the catch if he’s willing to play along with this little charade. We both know that a man of this—magnitude—wouldn’t be interested in our dear Calida. It’s a small wonder you could snag someone like him.”

“It
’s a small wonder I haven’t given you the ass whooping you’ve been begging for all these years,” Macy retorted.

I stood silent, feeling a little invisible, watching the events unfold in front of me. Seth turned and pinned me with a look that made me excited and nervous. A devilish smile played on his lips as he crossed the room in two strides to stand in front of me.

“Cara Mia, you look lovely tonight,” he said, circling his arms around my waist, and kissing me passionately.

I was vaguely aware of Dorian
’s gasp and Macy’s chuckle. All I knew was Seth. My hands ran up his back, and my body molded to his. His tongue teased my lip until my mouth opened to allow it access. His kiss was hot and dominating and I was grateful. His hands left my waist, working their way down to cup my butt, pressing me up against his hardening erection. When he pulled away, the playful look on his face told me exactly what he was doing. I felt my face get hot.

“We can put on an even bigger show,” he whispered.

My eyes followed his gaze which was on my bedroom door, and they got big when I turned back to look at him.

“We can
’t, they would hear. She would hear,” I replied in a panicked, hushed tone.

“We can, and that,
Cara Mia, would be the point,” he replied, softly nibbling on my earlobe.

I couldn
’t help the moan that escaped my lips. I’d forgotten we had an audience; it wasn’t until Dorian cleared her throat that I was brought back to my senses.

“Sorry,” I said, smoothing nonexistent wrinkles out of my outfit, avoiding her look of disapproval.

Seth kept his arm securely around my waist when he turned to look at her, visibly annoyed with her interruption.

“Well,” Dorian said, running her hand through her hair. “I guess you are here for Calida.”

“Yes, I am.” Seth smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Are you ready to go?” he asked, looking down at me.

“Oh, Seth is it?
I hope you don’t mind if she gives you a rain check.  It’s been years since we’ve seen each other, and I’ve driven all this way.” The fake sincerity oozed from her pores.  “We have some very important things about my upcoming nuptials that need to be discussed.  And since she is
my
sister, it’s her job to help my day become a success. You understand right?”

I knew there was a reason for this surprise visit. She made a flashy show of sticking her hand out so I could see her ring when I didn
’t give her an immediate congratulation.

“Actually, I do mind. As you
’ve said, it’s been years, so a few more hours won’t make any difference.”

This time there was no smile on Seth
’s face. Instead, he wore the look I was very familiar with. The one that said his decision was made and it was final.

“Do you have everything?” he asked, directing his attention to me.

‘No, I need to grab my bag.”

Seth walked into my room, grabbed my bag,
and then took my hand when he reentered the living room.

“Have a nice evening, Macy. Dorian,” he said with a curt nod in her direction.

I followed him out of the house, giving a weak smile to both Macy and Dorian. I could see Dorian was fuming and Macy wasn’t even trying to hide the huge grin on her face. Seth had won brownie points with her tonight.

“Is your sister always like that?” he asked once we were in the car.

“Like what?”

“Condescending.”

I looked out the window,
watching as the buildings whizzed by in a blur.

“Oh, well no. Most times she
’s a rude, evil bitch. Condescending is her being nice to me.”

Seth reached over to take my hand. Caressing it softly, he spared a quick glance towards me.

“That makes me glad I was an only child,” he said with a chuckle.

“Yeah, well she wishes she was,” I replied with a sigh. “She never warmed up
to the idea of having a sibling, but one day she might,” I said, giving him a stiff smile. “So where are we going?” I asked, wanting to change the topic.

I refused to let Dorian
’s sudden visit ruin my night. Things had been going well; Seth had been more like the guy that first won me over with only one or two major flare ups over the last month or so.
