I feel like these characters are my family. Ace and Kendall are my sisters. And Max is my beau, though I know he will always be Ace’s. I fell in love with them and all of you while completing their story.

I was often asked when book one was published: What inspired you to write Becoming His? I couldn’t really answer it without giving everything away, so I will take the opportunity to do it now. Death has always been one of my top fears. I’ve never dealt well with it. When my husband and I met with a lawyer to construct a will when I was pregnant with our first son, I cried a lot.

When my son was one, my father suffered a heart attack. Thankfully, he was okay and has been since, but my fears changed from the prospect of death, to not being able to protect him and show him all of the beauty life holds.

Then my second son was born, and this book began. It was funny, romantic, sweet, but I didn’t know where it was going until my husband’s grandfather fell ill, and then his grandmother, two people that I am so proud and thankful to call family. It seemed to awaken that fear of death I’ve had for as long as I can remember, and through Ace, I faced that fear by realizing that fearing it does nothing but prohibit living.

Life is a gift and love is what makes every day so damn special. That love is not always a romantic one. Sometimes it’s the love for a child, a parent, friend, grandparent, cousin, but, you must remember that as important as it is to love others, it is just as important to love and accept yourself. We are all flawed. We are all broken. We are all beautifully imperfect. That is what makes us all unique and special, and in the grand scheme of things,
that
is what allows us to love.

Appreciate your strengths, take notice of your own beauty, believe in yourself, and no matter what—don’t give up.

Mariah Dietz lives in Eastern Washington, with her husband and two sons that are the axis of her crazy and wonderful world.

Mariah grew up in a tiny town outside of Portland, Oregon, where she spent the majority of her time immersed in the pages of books that she both read and created.

She has a love for all things that include her sons, good coffee, books, travel, and dark chocolate. She also has a deep passion for the stories she writes, and hopes readers enjoy the journeys she takes them on, as much as she loves creating them.
