Epilogue

Amber and David, wishing to raise their coming child and live the rest of their lives in peace, called together the Believer Faithful from all the worlds. From these they selected three — Kubla, the warrior, Sean McTavish, the human and Undine Nightwing, sister of the troll hero, Plim. These three were named Shieldors of the Calm, charged with keeping the worlds in harmony and overseeing the forces of magic, nature and the cosmos from which all is created.

The Shieldors then selected the most loyal among their kind to keep safe the Triad Altar and with it the Sword-keys and the Amulet of Power. These forces were called the Traemen, both like yet unlike the races from which they came. Fierce, strong and cunning, the Traemen served only the Shieldors and could not be swayed to revealing the magic of the Triad, nor the secrets of the keys. To this end, they created a language of their own unlike any other in any world. They taught it only to other who joined them and to Teezal, the fairy protector.

Teezal was chosen Sha’Dai, Supreme Chieftain to which the Shieldors would come for advice and counsel if needed. Her word was final, absolute and she used it only in the gravest of situations.

Amber bore David a son, the product of the love that had ultimately saved the universe from annihilation. They named the child Braeden, Celtic for “from the dark valley,” and raised him in quietly among the humans, awaiting the time that he would learn his troll and fae heritage.

When time of his boyhood ended, Amber and David would teach him to harness the powers that lived inside him. He would prepare for the time he would have to make his choice, to continue as one of tens of millions living in the worlds, unleash the living thing inside him and breed a new race of corporeal beings that would rule over all worlds. Or, he could choose a wife, start a family and quietly live out the years of his life in peace.
