“Deeper,” Jada moaned. “Harder.”

She thrust herself back at him, finding their rhythm, and he went harder, deeper and harder again. He kept going, still deeper, until she thought she could take no more. She was completely filled, more filled than she could ever imagine being.

“Jada?” Brandon whispered.

“Yes?”

“Now, my mate, now is the time.”

She felt him lean over her, protecting her, even as he pounded his love into her. His chest covered her back, his hands cupped her breasts, his fingers squeezed her nipples. He pumped in again, and then out, and then in, balls slapping against her. Would it ever end? Brandon reached down and with his left hand sank a finger into her mouth, gently raising her chin and whispered into her ear.

“I love you, my mate. I will always love you. Tell me you want me to fuck you.”

“I want you to fuck me, Brandon.”

“Tell me you want my cubs.”

Jada didn’t have to think about it. She knew what she wanted. “I want your cubs. I want everything about you. Do it to me. Claim me.”

And that’s when she felt his rough beard on her neck. Brandon hugged her whole body tight and then he thrust. He thrust more powerfully than he ever had before. Once again, the air rushed from Jada’s lungs. She was so full she thought she would burst. And before she could breathe again, she felt Brandon’s teeth on her neck. His canines bit down into her flesh. But the pain was short-lived. The brief sting of discomfort was followed by a massive wave of pleasure. Her body seemed to liquefy as waves of heat radiated from every pore.

Her orgasm was like nothing she had experienced before. It rocked her entire body. Jada felt herself let go. She came around Brandon’s hard cock and she knew he was doing the same. Her pussy walls tightened around him as his manhood unleashed its hot load within her. She felt his seed race up her slick channel and she hoped and prayed it found a home there. She wanted Brandon’s cubs. She wanted shifter children to join their family just as his claim had joined them forever.

Brandon groaned, long and deep, the sound reverberating through the forest, and they stayed like that, her depths relaxing and tightening around Brandon as he deposited the final offerings of his seed. They were joined, one being under the wild sky, nothing able to part them, nothing able to ever come between them again. Finally, Brandon pulled out, exhausted, and lay on the grassy ground beside her.

“You’re mine now.”

“I was never anybody else’s,” Jada said.

“I want to raise a family with you. I want to know if that’s something you want.”

“With you, Brandon, I want everything.”

“So if you get pregnant?”

“Then there are three of us.”

“Or four. Bears often carry twins.”

“Now, you didn’t tell me about that,” Jada joked.

“No, I didn’t. I’m sorry. I wanted it to be your choice.”

Jada looked at him. She raised his chin so she could look directly in his eyes.

“Brandon, honey bear?”

“Yes, love.”

“It was my choice.”

Brandon smiled and rose, lifting Jada into his arms. Only Brandon had ever been able to pick her up effortlessly like that. Only Brandon was that strong. He tossed her over his shoulder as if she weighed nothing. Then for good measure, he gave her big, beautiful behind a smack on the butt.

“Brandon!”

“Just because we’re mated doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun.”

He spanked Jada again and took her into his arms, carrying her bridal-style back into the hot pool. Once there he gently kissed her lips and neck, working his way down to the mate mark. He carefully cleaned the mark with the water from the hot pool, and then he moved down to her thighs and folds and made sure those too were clean.

“So that’s it?” Jada said, feeling at her neck. “We’re together now?”

“Yes. Always.”

“No fireworks. No ticker-tape parade?”

“I don’t know about you, but I saw plenty of fireworks. There is one other thing, though.”

“Oh?”

“Before, at the car accident, you asked me what I carried in the backpack.”

“Yes, I suppose I did.”

Brandon reached over for his tan backpack, the one with the unusually long arm straps, the one that would fit a bear. He pulled out a pair of pants and some other clothing.

“Pants. Shirt. Underwear. Socks. Shoes.” Then he reached deep into the pack, pulling out something else.

“Oh, Brandon.”

“For you, Jada love.”

Brandon removed a diamond necklace from the pack. A beautiful diamond necklace with more glittering princess-cut stones than Jada could ever imagine. Jada felt the breath leave her lungs as he draped it gently around her neck.

“It’s beautiful.”

Jade felt the gems.

“It was my mother’s.”

“It’s lovely,” Jada said.

“There’s something else I have for you.”

Something else? How could there possibly be anything else? He had already made her the happiest woman on earth. Brandon reached deeper into the pack and removed something Jada didn’t ever think she’d see. Dried flowers. Four pink dried roses set into a silk bow on a wristband. He placed the band gently around her wrist.

“Brandon,” Jada said, her voice breaking. She couldn’t believe it. “Is this…?”

“Yes. Your corsage from prom night.”

“I can’t believe you kept it.”

“You were always the only one for me, Jada.”

“Always?” Jada asked.

“Always and forever,” Brandon said.

Brandon brought her close. Then their lips met and he kissed her, holding her tight, and all Jada could think was that the dream, her dream was now real. The Brandon whom she had longed for, the Brandon from her youth, was now hers. Hers forever. She grasped him tightly around the neck and his lips met hers, and in that moment she knew, she knew that it really was forever. Neither of them would ever be apart again.

Epilogue

THREE MONTHS LATER

Jada laughed as Brandon finished his joke. Not so much because the joke was funny, but because Brandon was so sincere in the telling of it. That, Jada had figured out, was one of Brandon’s best qualities. His sincerity. It shone through in everything he did.

Jada and Brandon had grown even closer since their mating. Brandon had taken over the day-to-day operations from his father at the dealership, and they had moved into the guest cabin at Brandon’s father’s lodge until they could find a more permanent home. Work-wise, Jada had kept her job with a tiny promotion. She didn’t want to make a big deal about it, given that Brandon was the boss, but he had given her responsibility for the entire service department as Service Manager. Not that she had to work anymore, but Jada liked her job. And even though she was a little embarrassed at the promotion, she was pretty sure she would have earned it anyhow, so she accepted it with a smile on her face.

They were enjoying a relaxing afternoon at the Wild Summit Golf Club with Amanda and Greg. Well, Jada thought, to be clear, they weren’t with Greg and Amanda as a couple, they were out with colleagues who they thought might make a good couple. No pressure, though. Amanda and Greg already knew each other pretty well, and on this lovely early-summer afternoon, all any of them wanted to do was relax and enjoy the sunshine.

But the truth was Jada wasn’t feeling entirely relaxed. Something had been gnawing at her, something serious. Jada thought she might be pregnant, but she found herself frightened to find out for sure. Even though Brandon wanted cubs, she was worried that it was too soon. After all, they were so happy right now. She didn’t want to change what they had. Not yet. Not to mention the fact that being pregnant meant she was going to get a lot bigger and a lot heavier. It was true bears preferred their women with some meat on their bones, but she didn’t want to blimp up beyond recognition, either.

Jada heard a pop as a golfer drove a ball down the fairway. The white ball soared through the air with such purpose, such direction, Jada decided at that moment there was no use torturing herself any longer. She’d been carrying the damn pregnancy test around with her for two weeks now. She knew what she had to.

“Excuse me, guys. Ladies’ room,” Jada said.

************************

Brandon couldn’t believe his good fortune. Every day since claiming his mate had been a dream, every night an exercise in passion. They didn’t make love every minute of the hour, but it was close. Even when they weren’t making love, the quiet moments filled him with pride and purpose. Sure, they’d argued occasionally, but they’d quickly made up. Yes, being with Jada was happiness of the variety he didn’t think possible on this earth. But lately Brandon had sensed some reticence in his love’s eyes. She was hiding something from him. And though he thought he sensed that it might have something to do with cubs, it pained him that she thought she had to do so. She would always be his. Regardless of what faced them.

“Ah, Brandon?” Jada said.

Brandon turned and smiled to see that Jada had already returned. “You were quick,” he said.

Jada hung back, near the railing of the patio overlooking the green.

“You may want to see this,” Jada said.

************************

Jada had been quick in the bathroom. Quicker than she had ever been in her life. But there was a reason for it. A good reason. She tapped her toe as Brandon rose from his seat to join her.

“There’s no other way to put this, so…”

Jada waved the pregnancy test stick in front of Brandon’s face, a big pink plus sign on it. “I’m pregnant.”

For what seemed like forever, Brandon just stared into her eyes. What was going on with him? Had he even heard her?

“I said, I’m pregnant.
We’re
pregnant.”

Brandon remained silent. Oh boy. This was going well. He either hadn’t heard or couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

“Earth to Honey Bear? You there, Brandon?”

“We’re pregnant,” Brandon said flatly.

“Uh huh,”
Jada nodded.

“Yesss! We’re pregnant!”

Brandon pumped both fists up and down and swept her into his arms. Maybe everything wasn’t going so badly after all. Jada loved the way Brandon could pick her up like that. He ran her around the patio, carrying her like she weighed no more than a feather. “My girl is pregnant! Do you hear? We’re having babies!”

“Ah, Brandon?”

“Yes, love?”

“Maybe you should put me down,” Jada said with a smile. “You know, for the babies and all.”

“Yes. Of course. What was I thinking?”

Brandon carefully put Jada down.

“You were thinking you’re going to be a dad.”

Brandon planted a big long kiss on her lips and smiled. It was the biggest smile Jada could imagine, and in that moment she felt terribly silly for being unsure about how Brandon would react. Of course he was happy. He was happy for the same reason she was. Because they would have a family together. Greg slapped Brandon on the back and Amanda hugged her. Even strangers congratulated them. It was fantastic.

As Jada basked in the glow of the news, she saw a sports car pull up. It was a classic Corvette. Top down and pearl blue, it was an old car, but it was in perfect shape. It probably belonged to one of their clients. Those guys liked to golf and ski. But she was a little surprised by the size of the man who got out of the car. He was a big guy, tall and broad shouldered, almost as big as Brandon, but with messy, surfer-style blond hair and a relaxed slump to his walk. She didn’t pay much more attention, because Brandon lifted her again, twirling her around happily, but then all of a sudden, everything stopped. Brandon stopped. Greg stopped talking. Amanda stood still.

Brandon put Jada down and she looked up at him. The look in his eyes was blue steel. He was serious. Somber. The surfer guy now stood six feet away. Brandon gently put Jada down.

“Brandon,” the oversized surfer guy said, lifting his sunglasses.

“Jeremy,” Brandon responded.

“Good to see you, bro,” the surfer guy said.

“What are you doing here?” Brandon asked.

“Oh, you know, the Call of the Wild and all that.”

“Jada, Greg, Amanda, I’d like you to meet someone. This is my half-brother, Jeremy.” Brandon broke his stare and gave Jeremy a giant hug. “Good to see you, Jeremy. Welcome home!”

Wow,
Jada thought.
Welcome home, indeed. There was a new bear in town.
New bear or not, though, Jada was content. After years of longing, she had finally found her mate. She and Brandon were one, and now they were going to have a family. Brandon was her first bear and her last, and everything was as it should be. Perfect.
