Maybe someday…

Ugh. No way could she count on it, at least not with Flynn. He’d leave her in the dust the moment he found out the truth.

“He didn’t cheat on me,” Willow said, her voice soft as she tilted her head back and smiled up at Nick. “We were young and dumb. It probably wouldn’t have worked out if we’d tried that first time around.”

“You really think so?” Nick sounded incredulous.

“I know so. I wasn’t even twenty yet. You were in your first pro season and horny. I couldn’t have kept you satisfied,” Willow said wryly.

“You keep me satisfied, baby.” Nick kissed Willow on the tip of her nose. “You were the one I always wanted. I hope you know that.”

Aubrey barely kept in the sigh that wanted to escape. They were having a total moment right now, and it was the cutest thing. But it also felt like she and Flynn were intruding on that moment.

“Maybe we should think about heading back to the hotel,” Aubrey suggested, her voice soft.

“Why? That eager to get back to that hotel room?” Nick laughed when both Aubrey and Flynn turned to glare at him. “What? You know it’s true. Your woman is buzzed. She’s been all over you since we came here.”

She couldn’t deny Nick’s words, because they were all true. As much as she wanted to hold a piece of herself back, out of Flynn’s grasp, that didn’t stop the constant yearning she had for him. It was just embarrassing to be called out for it.

“Oh, stop,” Willow said, giving him a slight shove. “You know you’re eager to get back to the room, too. You love nothing more than fooling around in a strange room that doesn’t belong to us. Ups the excitement for you.”

They both laughed. Aubrey wanted to die. She really didn’t need to hear those ultraprivate details about one of her clients. If she could, she’d plug her fingers in her ears.

“I am pretty beat,” Flynn said, feigning a yawn. Well, at least Aubrey hoped he was feigning it.

The last thing she wanted was to go back to the hotel, get a perfunctory kiss on the cheek, and then watch Flynn slip into his room.

Alone.

Though it would be best, right? The less time she spent with Flynn, the better she could protect her fragile heart. And it was so incredibly delicate right now. Like shatter-in-her-chest-if-she-didn’t-watch-it fragile.

“I’m sure you are,” Nick drawled, looking like he didn’t believe him whatsoever.

“Come on, let’s go,” Willow said, sliding from beneath Nick’s arm and exiting the booth. “I feel like we’re sitting around talking in circles. When, really, we all want to slip into bed and cuddle.”

“Darlin’, are you suggesting we have an orgy with Flynn and Aubrey?” Nick’s eyebrows shot straight up. “I know Flynn’s feeling a little bolder now, what with Aubrey poppin’ his cherry and all, but slow down, girl. You’ll scare the hell out of them.”

“Great, make them think I’m into orgies,” Willow whispered furiously, though Aubrey could tell she was trying to hold back her laughter. Willow’s gaze cut to Flynn and Aubrey. “He’s full of it, I hope you know. I wasn’t referring to having an orgy.”

Aubrey glanced at Flynn, who was sporting an embarrassed grin. “Of course we knew you didn’t mean it.” And she did know that. Hopefully so did Flynn.

“I’m just fuckin’ with you, Foley,” Nick said, shoving at Flynn’s shoulder when he slid out of the booth. “You should’ve seen the look on your face.”

“Yeah, real funny,” Flynn muttered, setting his hand at the small of Aubrey’s back as they left the restaurant.

She offered him a shy smile and he returned it, slowly shaking his head. Her stomach felt fizzy, full of nerves and hope and worry. She liked being part of a couple—probably too much. Shaking their heads together at the outrageous things Nick said. Spending time with friends. Knowing they were headed back to the hotel so they could get naked and stay in each other’s arms for the rest of the night.

But she needed to remember it was temporary. This, too, shall pass.

God, she really hated temporary.

Chapter Eleven

“So.” Flynn swallowed hard, captivated by the sight of Aubrey standing in the middle of his hotel room, shedding her coat and tossing it on the chair nearby. She ran her hand over her hair, her fingers threading through the reddish-hued waves as she smoothed it out and, holy hell, was he really getting a hard-on from watching her touch her hair?

Yes, he was. The entire night had been a different form of foreplay between them. It confused him. She’d been so attentive when the evening started out, but he’d felt her start to withdraw during dinner, and he had no idea why. What had happened?

He had no clue.

“So?” She rested her hands on her hips, watching him with the cute scrunched-eyebrows look she wore quite often. “Were you going to ask me something?”

He nodded, removing his own jacket and letting it drop on top of hers on the chair. “The conversation we had earlier with Nick and Willow.” Pausing, he suppressed the groan that wanted to escape when she kicked off those sexy heels she wore, dropping about four inches in height. Damn, she was cute.

“What about it?”

“You didn’t really think Willow meant she wanted to have an orgy with us…did you?” He couldn’t imagine Willow being serious about it, but weirder things had happened. The talk in the locker room turned filthy more often than not. Stories were shared there that would set Aubrey’s head spinning—and her ears burning. After hearing them tossed around so often, he’d become kind of numb to the outrageous tales. He could handle it, knew how to tune out their voices.

Flynn was exhausted enough just playing football. He couldn’t imagine trying to pleasure two women at once. Dating a variety of women in one night.

He worried one was too much. Could he really handle a relationship with Aubrey? Being torn in too many different directions, having to please his father, his coach, his teammates, himself, and a woman on top of all of that? Could he deal?

His head was spinning just thinking about it.

No.
Are you serious? Don’t tell me you believed it. She phrased it all wrong. I would’ve never even thought she was implying a swapping situation between us, if Nick hadn’t been such a jerk and made the orgy reference.” Aubrey shook her head with a little sigh. “I think I need to work on him some more. As his publicist, I need to control that mouth of his. What if he said something like that in public?”

“He wouldn’t. He’s not that stupid. And hell, you never know.” He shrugged, feeling like an ass. “I’ve heard some crazy stories from my teammates when it comes to women. They’ve all seemed to do some outrageous stuff.”

“I’m sure,” she said wryly. “You don’t have any crazy stories to contribute?”

Flynn shook his head, relieved that she was acting like her normal, sweet-Aubrey self. “Not really.” If he wanted to be an asshole, he could tell them about his nights with Aubrey. But he wouldn’t do that. What he shared with Aubrey was just between them.

God, look what this woman did to him. It was bad enough, the wholesome image he put on for all of America to see. To start thinking with such an aw-shucks attitude was ridiculous. He was starting to believe his own hype.

Now, that was damn scary.

“You’ve got nothing?” She sounded like she didn’t believe him. “No outrageous fan who would do anything to get into your pants and finally wore you down? Then you finally banged her just to get rid of her?”

He winced. “Hell no. That would make me all sorts of an ass, wouldn’t it?”

“No, it would make you a typical guy who became a professional athlete and had to deal with fame and women coming at him quicker than he could process it. What guy could resist that? What man wouldn’t make a few mistakes along the way?” She threw her hands up in the air, almost like she was disappointed that he hadn’t been a total player.

“Not me. I didn’t,” he said emphatically, settling heavily on the edge of the bed. He gazed up at her, surprised that she seemed so damn…disappointed in his nonplayer status. “Is that what you want, Aubrey? A guy who’s banged an endless number of faceless, nameless chicks? Some asshole, whose sole purpose in life is to get laid? Because I hate to disappoint you, but I’m not that guy.”

She stared down at him, her gaze seeming to see everything, all that he’d just laid bare. He wondered if what he’d just said had been a total mistake. Dread consumed him and made his heart heavy, his head throb. “I don’t want that type of guy,” she murmured.

That wasn’t what he’d expected her to say. He’d been prepared for a fight, so her admitting that surprised him. “Tell me what you want, then,” he demanded.

Without a word, she knelt before him, her slender hands resting on his knees, spreading them apart so she could move in between them. Her scent wrapped around him, soft and floral and so deliciously her, he wanted to bury his face in the crook of her neck and breathe her in. “I want you, Flynn.”

“I want you, too.” This was not a time for words—at least lots of words. He might say something he’d regret. So he remained silent, sliding his hands into her hair, the soft strands curling around his fingers. He just wanted to touch her. Stare at her. Savor this night and end it on the right note.

Naked. In bed with Aubrey.

“I have a question for you.” She swept her thumb across his chin, her seemingly innocent touch sending sparks of awareness scattering throughout his body.

“Go for it,” he said warily. He had no idea where she would take this conversation next.

“Have you ever had a blow job?” she asked, her expression devoid of any emotion beyond innocent questioning.

Yeah. Unpredictable. This woman drove him crazy. “I’ve had a few blow jobs.” And more than a few had been offered to him. That was a football groupie’s favorite gift to give. He’d turned them all down endless times. A ridiculous amount of times, really. The very last thing he wanted was someone to leak a story of how she’d gone down on Golden Boy Flynn Foley and made him come in her mouth.

Yeah. His parents would kill him. His fans would hate him. So not the image he wanted portrayed.

“I bet it’s been a while though, right?” He released his grip on her hair as she ran her hands from his knees up his thighs, her touch featherlight, her fingers spread wide for what he figured was maximum touching. Moving in closer, her breasts almost brushed against his chest. They entranced him. Made him want to reach out and squeeze and test just how soft that sweater was.

Well, he knew how soft that sweater was, but he wanted to feel it again. Maybe slip his hands beneath the fabric this time.

“Yeah, it’s been a while.” He cleared his throat at his raspy voice. If she was offering, he’d take one from her right now. He could only imagine sinking his cock between those pretty plump lips and watching her lick and suck…

“And you’ve never had sex with another woman.” She straightened her back, making herself as tall as she could, and he tilted his head, realizing they were face-to-face. He let his cheek brush against hers, their noses nuzzling. “Until me. Right?”

Did she need confirmation again? “Until you,” he whispered, his mouth moving against her skin. God, she smelled good, and she was so damn soft. He could get lost in this, in her.

A little moan escaped her as she wrapped her hand around his nape, effectively trapping him. Like he wanted to escape? This scenario had the potential to turn into something freaking amazing. He just knew it. “Do you know how much of a turn-on that is, knowing that I was your first?”

“You don’t say?” He was shocked. His virgin status had become this burden that hung around his neck, demanding to be rid of for good. He was glad it had been with Aubrey, because he trusted her. She was a good…friend.

Screw it. She was more than that. Way more.

“Oh yeah. It was intimidating at first. I won’t lie. But now…” She smiled and leaned her head back, letting their lips brush together in a simple yet wicked kiss. “I find it exciting. Humbling.”

“Humbling?”

“Definitely.” She nodded, giving him another quick kiss on the lips. “That you found me worthy enough to be the first woman you have sex with. That you waited this long… It’s quite unusual.”

“I know.” His voice went flat.

“Not in a bad way.” She rested her hand on his cheek, forcing him to meet her gaze. “We have all night to do whatever we want. What do you want to do?”

“You,” he confessed, his voice whisper quiet.

A slow, sexy smile curved her luscious lips. “Maybe you should touch me then, don’t you think?”

Aubrey almost wanted to burst out in triumphant laughter when Flynn reached out at her command and cupped her breasts, his fingers gently kneading them through her favorite sweater. He was such a total boob man. Though he did also seem enamored with her legs…

In an instant, all urges to laugh disappeared as she became lost to Flynn’s assured touch. It was as if he knew her body better than herself. So scary, because this thing between them absolutely could not last.

But here she was, instead of staying away from him like she told herself to, they were becoming even more intimate. She’d offered up a blow job, when she should’ve blown him off.

Oh well. May as well live it up for one more night.

“Take off my sweater,” she told him, pleased when he slipped his hands beneath the hem and rested them at her waist. His fingers pressed into her bare skin, making her eyelids flutter, and then he was pushing the fabric up. Over her breasts, revealing her favorite, sexy bra.

She lifted her arms to help him take the sweater off, and he yanked it over her head, making her shake her hair out. The garment fell from his fingertips onto the floor, but it was like he didn’t even notice. He was too engrossed with her chest, her breasts barely contained by the black lace demi-cup bra she’d purposely chosen to wear tonight. It made her breasts look huge, and she’d wanted every advantage she could get.

“Goose bumps,” he said as he skimmed his finger, first, over one exposed, plump curve of her breast, then over the other. “You like it when I touch you here.”

“I like it when you touch me everywhere,” she admitted, earning a light chuckle from him.

He smiled, his finger never straying from her breasts as he started to circle it around her left nipple again and again, making it harder with every touch. “I like the lace.”

“I wore the bra specially for you.”

“Really?” He sounded surprised.

“No, I wore it for Nick and Willow and our supposed orgy,” she joked, earning a hard glare from Flynn for her efforts.

“I don’t like to hear you even joke about that. What he said was some crazy shit.”

Ooh, look at Flynn, getting all fierce. She sort of liked it. “He was only joking.”

“Still. I don’t need the reminder. Like I’d ever be okay with you doing anything like that.” He shook his head. “When we’re together, you’re mine, Aubrey.”

Okay. The possessive tone in his voice should’ve sent out crazy, wow-look-at-the-alpha-tendencies-this-guy-has, what-a-jerk vibes. Instead, her skin grew warm, her nipples hardened, and the skimpy, matching black lace panties she wore were instantly soaked.

All because Mister I’m-sort-of-an-asshole, keep-your-hands-off-my-woman spoke and said those possessive words so incredibly well.

“And no way am I ever going to share you with anyone,” he continued, swooping in for a devastating kiss that would’ve snatched every argument from her head if she’d had any the moment Flynn’s lips touched hers, it was that delicious.

But since she had no reason to argue, all was good.

All was perfect. For now.

He somehow undid the clasp on her bra, and she felt it loosen around her as he eagerly pushed the straps from her shoulders, helping her shed the lacy garment. She rested her hands on his chest, undoing the buttons of his shirt one by one, her fingers brushing against all that golden, taut skin she exposed. She felt his sharp intake of breath against her lips when she brushed her finger against his nipple accidentally on purpose.

Opening her eyes, she broke their kiss, watching him. “Tell me what you like,” she whispered as she pushed his shirt off his massive shoulders, marveling at how the fabric caught on his thick biceps. God, he was built like a beautiful, masculine machine. All finely tuned muscle and perfect coordination. He’d worked damn hard to get where he was at this point in his career, and his body showed it.

And for tonight, it was hers to touch and kiss and pleasure all she wanted.

“I like you,” he said simply, reaching out to grab her by the waist, but she moved away at the last minute, loving the sight of his grumpy frown.

“I like you, too.” She kissed him, a brief peck on the lips that had him reaching for more, but yet again, she dodged him. “But I want to know what you
like.
What turns you on. What do you want me to do to you?”

“Whatever you want to do to me, I’m game,” he said, his grin huge.

She rolled her eyes. Tonight wasn’t about the tease. She wanted to give him pleasure, however fleeting. Wanted to learn exactly what he liked, what drove him so crazy he lost all control.

Yeah. She wanted that most of all.

“That’s not good enough. I need more input.” She rested her hands at the front of his pants, her fingers curling around the waistband, brushing against the warm, bare skin of his stomach. His muscles flexed beneath her touch. “I think you like that.”

Aubrey made quick work of the snap and zipper and shoved at his pants, and he had no choice but to stand so she could help him take them off. “Maybe you want more?”

He blew out a harsh breath, the expression on his face nothing short of hungry. “I have an intense practice tomorrow…”

“And I can help you relax so you’ll sleep like a baby tonight,” she finished for him, a sly smile curling her lips. She was topless, still in her jeans. He sat on the edge of the bed in only his underwear, his erection straining against the front. She felt wicked, young, and silly, like they were about to embark on something naughty and secret.

Maybe it was the alcohol still flowing through her veins. Maybe it was the fact that she was forced into a bogus relationship with Flynn put together by the media—and Harvey. Maybe she…
