He grunted.

“I barely dated him. I had to bring someone since you brought that…what was her name Harlot?”

“Beth.” He snickered. “She was a lesbian, couldn’t afford to fly home for the holiday, and in one of my film classes, but you didn’t stick around long enough to find that out.”

“So what happened to Todd the barely dateable?” he asked grudgingly. She could hear the bitterness in his tone.

“He wanted something I wasn’t ready to give up.” She looked up at the night sky.

“Is that what the tattoo is about?” He asked as his arm stretched out and his fingers touched her wrist and the word she had inked on it.

“Yes.” She could barely breathe. “I’m not going to end up like my mother. Ivy inspired me to wait until the right guy came along.”

“She waited until she got married.” He rolled to his side and looked at her. She dared to look at those gorgeous green eyes and as soon as she did, she was lost in them.

“I don’t think I want to get married.” She shrugged. She wanted to touch him. She no longer cared that they were at her brother’s house, on a roof, and that even once would change everything forever.
