Vitamin C and bioflavanoids are anti-inflammatory.

Avoid vitamin B
3
, niacin, on its own, as this may cause you to flush.

EXTRA TIPS

Get tested for food intolerances. Go to www.gillianmckeith.info for a home-test kit. There is often a connection, especially with those rosacea sufferers who get lots of headaches.

I have also found a connection between parasites, organisms, amebas, and unbalanced bacterias with this condition. So please take a digestion test (www.gillianmckeith.info).

Avoid facials with steaming. It sometimes makes things worse.

Take up yoga or meditation to aid relaxation and deal with stress (see page
373
).

If you have been taking antibiotics to help with this condition see page

SCABIES

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infection from the acarus scabei mite. The mite burrows into the top layer of the skin and lays its eggs. Initially, the mites cause small, red lumps on the skin. Other symptoms include intense heat, itching, irritation and red, scabby, dry skin. The infection usually starts on the hands and can spread from there, often affecting the arms, toes, and buttocks. The itching may last for a couple of weeks.

Scabies is diagnosed by inspecting a skin scraping under a microscope for evidence of the mites or eggs. Scabies is highly contagious. It is spread by skin-to-skin contact, so outbreaks can occur in schools and institutions.

Action plan

Increase your immunity so that you are less likely to succumb to infection.

EAT/DRINK

Vegetable juices contain nutrients needed for healing.

Garlic. It is antiparasitic and antibacterial. It can be eaten and applied topically. Rub cut cloves of garlic onto the affected areas, but be careful, as garlic is quite powerful and can make the skin sore.

Zinc-rich foods including pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds.

Shiitake mushrooms and pau d’arco tea for immune-boosting properties.

Sprouted seeds for antioxidants.

AVOID

Sugar, refined carbohydrates, and processed foods. These all suppress the immune system and slow healing.

EXTRA TIPS

Tea tree can be applied to the affected areas of skin to destroy the mites.

Apply sulphur as a dusting powder to destroy the mites.

To aid healing, apply aloe vera gel or calendula cream to the affected areas.

Avoid contact with infested people and their clothing where possible.
