Jack picked her up in his arms and swung her around.
She tried to push free. “See here,” she said. “They’ll all be waiting for you to lead the winner in.”
Jack kissed her. “Let them wait,” he said. “I’m busy. I’m applying for a post as manager of the Hunting Stable.”
She needed a second or two to figure out what he meant. At first she looked puzzled, and then, before his eyes, that radiant smile appeared. “Oh, that. I rather imagine you’ve got the job. Nobody else to be considered.”
Jack couldn’t speak. He put his arm around her and, holding her close, led the way to Quicksilver, who was waiting for them to take him into the winner’s circle.
