Seth kissed the arched neck and licked Dom’s
Adam’s apple with a sigh. This was a man he was willing to give in
to. He breathlessly mouthed another confession of love into Dom’s
skin, where he wouldn’t see it.

As they lay in post-orgasmic haze, letting
their bodies cool down on the floor, Domenico turned his head back
to look at Seth again. It was a moment so strange, yet so familiar,
as if they had been waking up next to one another for years. It
felt so right.

Seth reached up to the desk and after a few
attempts managed to pull down a box of tissues. They needed to get
ready after all. “You’ll need to do my tie again.” Seth kissed the
side of Dom’s head while cleaning them up.

Domenico chuckled. “I would even tie a tie
for Lucrezia.”

A violent knock on the door was a harsh
wake-up call.

“Seth! Where are you? You’ll be late!”
Father’s yell got Seth up to his feet in no time.

“I’m coming, just sorting out my tie!”

Domenico jumped up to his feet, closing his
pants. He ran for the cupboard and sprayed Seth’s deodorant all
over, wide eyed. Seth stood there watching him with a silly grin,
arranging his clothes. They hadn’t taken off much, so it wasn’t
that bad.

“Seth! I’m not joking. If you embarrass me
today, we’ll be talking differently!”

Seth ran for the door as soon as Domenico got
his suit jacket on. Father frowned when he noticed Seth wasn’t
alone. He scowled..

“Seth, do you know the
meaning of the word ‘discrete’? You’re going to smell like a
perfume shop. Is that what you learned in the States? And what
are
you
doing
here?” Father turned to Domenico with a frown.

Domenico nodded, tying his tie. “I tried to
repeat the lessons in tying we were having back in Berlin.”

“Yeah, I kinda… I kept doing it wrong.” Seth
raised an eyebrow at his reflection. Too elegant for his own
liking.

Father turned his attention to Dom. “Why do
you look like shit on my son’s wedding?” It was a gross
overstatement. All that was wrong with Dom’s pristine appearance
was the hair - loose and out of order. But Domenico knew how to
handle his betters.

“I am very sorry, sir. My hair band broke,
and I need to find a new one.”

The Don took a deep breath and turned his
accusations to Seth. “And you? Tie like from a catalog and a
wrinkled shirt? Is this another American fashion?”

“Y-yeah. It’s called ‘city chic’, so… you
know, a bit elegant, a bit chilled out--”

Father stopped him and shook his head. “Let’s
just get on with it.”

Domenico looked at Seth over Father’s
shoulder, slowly combing his fingers through the sleek hair.

“What are you two waiting for?” growled
Father as he stormed out of the room. It was only then that
Domenico stepped close enough to whisper into Seth’s ear.

“I will be in the gardener’s home.”

“Okay, I’ll try to find a moment to sneak
out.” Seth took a deep breath of Dom’s scent. At least he would
feel Dom all over himself today. Their colognes melted together,
and he barely even knew which was his anymore.

“I’ll be waiting all night.”

Seth looked back just one more time, letting
his gaze rest on the bright eyes before following Father. This man
would be his downfall.

Chapter
8

Domenico was pacing in the single room of the
gardener’s house. He kept the lights out, careful not to attract
any attention, as the house was deserted for the wedding night.
Even with the music buzzing in the background, he could clearly
distinguish the creaking of wood beneath his feet, and for a
moment, he entertained the thought that he’d turn into a walking
corpse while waiting for a man who might as well never come, too
busy cementing his new, proper family. Domenico’s thumb touched the
next bead of the single-decade rosary he always carried. The
fragrant wood was pleasant against his thumb, smooth from years of
use. Words of prayer left his mouth, but he couldn’t help but be
preoccupied with something else.

Throughout the ceremony, Seth had been eerily
calm, with a small smile constantly on his lips whenever he looked
at his bride. It was Dom who was crumbling with each gesture Seth
made toward her. Too preoccupied with the events, he couldn’t pay
much attention to his mother and eventually deserted her under the
pretense of duties he had to attend to.

Slowly, he looked through a tear in the
curtain, watching the lights of the main villa. His fingers went to
the signet on his index finger for the thousandth time this
evening, and he stroked the metal, smiling at how thick Seth’s
fingers were that this monster of a ring fit on them so well. He
wondered whether Seth would keep his new signet while he fucked his
wife.

When Domenico finally saw a wide-shouldered
figure walk in the direction of the house in the darkness, his skin
tingled. A tiny orange light to the side indicated that Seth was
smoking, and when Dom looked to the filled ashtray on the table, he
realized he’d been here far too long. And when his man finally
came, the fucking cell phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket
in a swift move, while his body was already being pulled toward the
door by an invisible force. Luigi. He never ignored his mentor’s
calls, and it took him several seconds to come to a decision.
Tonight, he wouldn’t be on call.

He switched off the sound and put the cell
phone on the table, walking through the herb-smelling room to
unlock the door. His heart quickened its pace as he leaned against
the wooden frame, listening.

The door handle moved and Seth came in with a
short creak of the old wood. Before even uttering a greeting, Seth
closed his arms around Dom with a loud inhale. He was still in his
wedding suit, though his tie hung loose under the collar.

Dom blindly slammed the door shut and locked
it again before embracing Seth with a loud sigh. He put his face
against Seth’s shoulder and breathed in his smell, instantly
calming down. “You’re here.”

“I couldn’t get out sooner.” Seth slid a hand
into Dom’s hair, keeping his head close. “It took forever…” he
whispered.

“Yes, it’s past four. One more hour, and it
would be too much light for you to sneak through without being
noticed.”

Seth hid his face in Dom’s neck and put out
his cigarette before wrapping his arm around Dom’s waist. “If you
were a woman, I’d marry you.”

Domenico groaned, pulling him even closer.
“Well, you did put a ring on my finger.” He prayed Seth wouldn’t
mention Lucrezia. He had been pressured to marry her, which made
the union invalid anyway. Any church court would recognize
that.

Seth snorted and hugged him tighter, kissing
his neck. “Yep, you could always try and hide your stubble
underneath a veil.”

“I’m afraid someone else would be wearing the
veil.” Dom gave him a gentle head-butt, fishing for his hand. He
wanted to check if Seth still had the signet. For a devastating
moment he couldn’t find it on the small finger, but then realized
Seth moved it to his ring finger. It only fit beyond the first
joint.

“See, not gonna happen.” Seth stroked Dom’s
head. It was worth all the hours Domenico had spent here all
alone.

“We’re leaving at midday. And I plan to fuck
you on the plane,” he whispered.

Seth kissed Dom under his jaw. “Hasty. I
don’t mind, but I’m not sure I’ll fit in the lavatory with you all
that well. Let’s sit down.”

Domenico chuckled and pulled him to the
narrow bed, which he’d covered with a set of fresh sheets, so that
they wouldn’t have to lie down on the gardener’s bedding. It would
be inappropriate to leave traces on the old man’s things.

“You weren’t looking at me at all.” He poked
Seth in the ribs and laid his head on the strong shoulder. From up
there, he watched a large old closet, halfway open to reveal some
work clothes. Everything was so eerily quiet, as if the owner of
the house had disappeared without a trace.

Seth sighed and opened the top buttons of his
shirt. “I didn’t want it to seem weird. I keep stressing out that
someone will find out, and it’ll all go to shit. She seemed so
frail.” He still wasn’t looking at Dom. “As if she was made of
meringue.”

Domenico couldn’t help the scowl on his face
so he looked to the side. “Someone already knows,” he snapped.

Seth turned to him, wide-eyed, tightening
the grip on Dom’s hand. “What?”

Domenico cleared his throat. “But he won’t
say a thing, I know too much of his vices for him to risk it.”

“My uncle? He knows? How? We were so
careful,” Seth hissed, squeezing Dom’s hand to the point of
pain.

Domenico forced a smile, looking at Seth’s
handsome face in the shadows of the dark room. “He knows me, must
have noticed some little thing. But that doesn’t matter, he won’t
talk.”

“I wanted to scrape his fucking face off his
skull when he was congratulating me on the marriage. Creepy
motherfucker.” Seth’s frown made his eyes look even darker than
usual.

Domenico frowned. “Why?”

“What do you mean ‘why’?” Seth kicked Dom’s
ankle. “He hurt you, and then he goes up to me all cheery-faced
when he knows I don’t even wanna be there?”

Domenico’s stomach clenched as if someone
squeezed their fist around it. “He didn’t ‘hurt’ me. It was... the
way he does things.”

“Well, I don’t like the way ‘he does
things’,” Seth groaned and lay back on the bed.

Domenico stared at his own hands, clenching
and unclenching in his lap. “Me neither.” He forced a chuckle. “I
don’t like American pizza either.”

“You can be such a stupid fuck, you know
that?” Seth put his hands over his face and shook his head. “I’m
gonna make you a deep dish pizza every day in New York, how about
that?”

“I would start resenting you within a week.”
Domenico combed his fingers through his hair and looked at Seth,
who peeked at him through his fingers.

“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t be that cruel,” he
said before going strangely quiet for a few seconds.“Dom… Do we
have a job in New York?”

Domenico sighed and slowly turned around to
lie on his side in one smooth move. He looked into Seth’s eyes with
their noses merely inches apart. “Perhaps, but it’s not clear
yet.”

Seth turned as well and smelled a strand of
Dom’s hair. “So I’ll have lots of free time to indulge in my new
favorite toy.”

Domenico frowned. “Your what?”

“You’re no fun.” Seth sighed and cuddled up
closer, like a giant teddy bear.

“Did you mean the apartment?” asked Domenico,
running his fingers down Seth’s side, over the smooth fabric of his
suit jacket. It was still cool from being out in the wind.

Seth took in a long breath. “Yep, that’s what
I meant, ‘cause I like to have sex with chairs.”

Domenico leaned back, feeling heat bubble up
in his chest. “Did you just call me ‘your new toy’?”

“So?”

Domenico rolled off the bed and stepped back
from the bed. “Well, I’m not,” he growled, crossing his arms on his
chest. He was trying to breathe in and out slowly to calm himself
down. “I see you take quite a lot after your dear uncle.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake!” Seth covered his face
again. “That is beyond… I was just joking around.”

“Do you see me laughing?” spat Domenico,
pacing around again.

Seth got up from the bed as
if his body weighed a ton. “Whatever. I had a shit day, so you
could cut me some slack. But it looks like I might as well go back
to my
wife
,” he
groaned and had the audacity to go for the door. After Dom had
waited here for him all night. After he ignored Luigi’s call. He
shook his head in disbelief.

“Sure, go. I can just leave for Minsk to
assassinate someone instead of going with you.” He swallowed,
looking straight into the wide shoulders. “Seems you took a liking
to her anyway.”

Seth turned to him with that ever-present
frown. “Sure I did. I plowed her pussy long and hard. Especially
that I could hardly hold an erection. There’s nothing like getting
naked with someone you don’t feel excited by. I loved every second
of not being able to come for ages.” He clenched his fists and hit
the door, making the old thing rattle.

Domenico swallowed, keeping up Seth’s gaze,
and trying not to let his imagination go wild with images he didn’t
want to see. “Believe me, I know.”

“No, you don’t know! I went through all that,
managed to come here when she fell asleep, just to see you, you
ass, and I get compared to my uncle for using a word you didn’t
like. Fuck you, you know? Go to Minsk! What do I care?” Seth spread
his arms to the sides. “I have a lovely wife after all.”

Domenico growled. “Did you
ever
pretend
you
came, just to get it over with and have them roll off you? Because
I did. Let’s compare wounds, huh?” He stepped closer to Seth and
yanked him closer with his teeth bared.

Instead of backing off, Seth squinted and
closed in as well. “Yeah, let’s. This one time, the guy just
wouldn’t get off me. I tried to stab him with a fucking fork, but
he just held me down and fucked my ass until he forced an orgasm.
How’s that for a ‘wound’, huh?” He got so close Dom could feel the
heat of Seth’s skin on his forehead.

Domenico froze, squeezing his fingers on
Seth’s forearms, unable to take a breath as they gazed at each
other in the strange silence that followed. Domenico was being
sucked into a black hole.

“I... it wasn’t like that...”

“It was like that and more!” Seth tried to
pull his arms away, but Dom kept them in place. “I’m such a stupid
fuck for still being here.”

“No, you are not!” Domenico pushed him
against the wall, with his mind clouded. “I did want to give you
pleasure.”
