Rachel and Joseph Delaro stood with Henrico and Bonita Perez, watching their children dance, knowing the miracle that brought them together…and home. Jobe threw his arm around his wife, MacKenna, and led her to the gazebo now that the first dance was over, twirling her around as well.

Bethany looked on with pride at her wedding venue, pleased that business was picking up and friends wanted to celebrate there. Jack saw her glancing around nervously so, pulling her in tightly, said, “No working tonight, babe. Your staff has it all in hand, so you can just be mine right now,” before he pulled her over to the gazebo to dance as well.

Several of the Saints brought dates and the dance floor began to fill up with couples swaying to the music.

Sister Genovia, now well enough to travel, flew in for the wedding. She and Miriam had a tearful reunion several days earlier and now the nun sat at one of the tables on the lawn, watching the sunset over the mountains. Taking a deep breath, she smiled at the glowing bride, thanking God for her deliverance. As her eyes moved to the groom, she chuckled, thanking God once more for sending Miriam such a kind and handsome rescuer.

Cam took his eyes off his bride for just a moment to glance around at the others. Friends, family, co-workers. He could not imagine being happier than he was at that moment and a sudden flash of memory rushed back to him.
Father Martinez. I haven’t thought of him in years.
And he remembered the words the priest had said to him that fateful day.
A man can change his destiny.

Looking back at the beautiful woman in his arms, he felt the words of the priest slam into him.
I would have been in prison or dead. And now?
Receiving one of Miriam’s brilliant smiles as a gift, he knew,
My destiny is having this woman in my life.

He bent his head and took her mouth in a gentle kiss. One that promised everything, sealing his destiny forever.

Two years later

Miriam woke from
her nap, thankful for the chance to have an extra hour of sleep. The house was quiet…too quiet. Her breasts were heavy, ready for feeding time. She rose from the bed quickly but before she could make it to the hall, Cam stepped into the bedroom.

“Where’s—”

He shushed her with his fingers over her lips and motioned for her to follow him. He led her to the nursery where she peeked in with curiosity. There in the rocking chair sat Sister Genovia holding a cooing Genevieve. The elderly nun lifted her eyes from the tiny two-month old bundle and smiled over her namesake.

Miriam moved into the room as Genevieve began to fuss, taking her from the Sister’s arms. Settling down in the rocking chair herself, she opened her gown and began nursing her baby. Cam patted Sister Genovia’s shoulder as she left the room before kneeling down next to the chair watching his beautiful wife with their perfect little girl. Genevieve’s head was covered in black downy hair and her dark eyes watched her mother carefully.

After she had her fill, her mouth went slack as sleep overtook the infant. Miriam looked over at Cam, enjoying the few minutes of peace. He assisted her up and watched as she lay the sleeping baby back into her crib. Carefully covering her with a blanket, he ushered Miriam back toward their bedroom.

“What are you doing?” she whispered.

“You need to rest,” he answered.

“I just took a nap and there’s so much to do,” she protested.

“Nope,” he replied. “Your mom and my mom are downstairs, whipping the house into shape, trying to outdo each other for grandmother of the year. Sister Genovia is also there, keeping an eye on things. Bethany brought over some food for later so there’s no meal to fix.”

“Humph,” she said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “But I’m not sleepy.”

“Well,” he said, gently laying her back onto the mattress. “You did have your checkup last week and the doctor did say that we could—”

“Cam! We’ve got our mothers and Sister Genovia downstairs! How can we possibly—”

Interrupting her concerns, he pushed her gently back onto the bed, slipping his arms around her soft body. Moving his lips over hers, he kissed her. Capturing her moan in his mouth, he took the kiss deeper. Wetter. His hands roamed over her body, ripe with curves. He knew she was self-conscious about losing her post-pregnancy weight, but he loved the feel of her body. Her moans increased as his hands continued to work magic, quickly eliciting her hands to seek out his crotch.

Miriam smiled, finding exactly what she knew she would discover. He was more than ready. Suddenly the thought of having this man make love to her overrode every other thought in her mind. Knowing that little Genevieve could awake at any moment hastened her actions. Her hands sought his skin as clothes were tossed to the side.

He felt her ardor increase as their naked bodies clung to each other. He wanted to rediscover her slowly, with long, languid strokes, but fear of interruption had him moving just as quickly as she.

“Now, Cam. I need you now,” she cried. “We can take things slow later. Maybe in about twenty years,” she added, thinking about the coming years of passion mixing with parenthood.

Chuckling, he complied, plunging inside her warmth as he relished her body, moving in the age-old rhythm that soon brought them clinging to each other as their orgasms rushed over them.

Minutes later, both sated as he pulled the covers back over their cooling bodies, he held her tightly. Her head rested on his broad chest as her breathing slowed. Within a few minutes, they heard the cooing from the baby monitor and she immediately moved to leave the bed.

He pulled her back for one more kiss and as his dark eyes met hers, they both smiled. She placed her hand on his stubbled cheek, saying, “Thank you.” Seeing his questioning expression, she continued, “Thank you for saving me.”

Another gentle kiss was placed on her lips before she quickly donned her gown and robe. His eyes followed her as she slipped from the room before he moved to claim his clothes as well. Stepping back into the hall, he watched as she held their baby in her arms. And he knew—he was the one rescued. First by the priest and then by this woman’s love. Slipping his daughter into his arms, he smiled as he led them downstairs to the waiting grandmothers. The follies of his youth fell away, knowing that Someone was watching over them.

Author Information

Maryann Jordan

I am an avid reader of romance novels, often joking that I cut my teeth on the romances of the 1970’s. I have been reading and reviewing for years. In 2013, I created a blog, Lost in Romance Books, to promote and showcase indie authors. In 2014, I finally gave into the characters in my head, screaming for their story to be told. From these musings, my first novel, Emma’s Home, The Fairfield Series was born.

I recently retired as a high school counselor having worked in education for thirty years. I live in Virginia, having also lived in four states and two foreign countries. I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for thirty-four years and am the mother of two adult daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my four cats can generally be found in the same room if not on my lap.

Please take the time to leave a review of this book (on Goodreads, Amazon). Reviews are the lifeline for indie authors.

Feel free to contact me, especially if you enjoyed my book. I love to hear from readers!

My book are about alpha males and the strong, independent women they fall in love with. Men learning how to let a woman be herself while still being protected by their man. Women learning that sometimes giving a little control over to their alpha is a good thing! Great secondary characters (who usually get their own book!). Hot sex. Mystery. Suspense.

All of my books are stand-alone, each with their own HEA!! You can read them in any order!
