Charge? Wasn’t Lady Caroline a bit old for such treatment? She was hardly a greenling to Society at two and twenty. In fact, she was practically on the shelf. Weighing the significance of this information on his plans, he nodded. “Yes. A woman, whom I assume is your sister, is seeing to her.”

The pup gave Roderick one more deadly glare and disappeared into the room, roughly pushing him aside. Roderick smirked at the silly attempt at intimidation, and thought he saw Lord Llywelyn’s eyes roll. Another eerily similar male, this one around his own age, rushed from the direction of the drawing room. Exactly who were all these valiant guardians of his fiancée?

“Alec, where’s Caroline?”

“Inside, with King and Thea. I must speak with Caro. I assume you can keep His Grace here entertained for a few moments, Gregory?”

A half-crazed look suddenly entered the suspicious eyes of the newcomer. “Of course. Just leave it to me.”

Roderick had barely settled himself against the wall opposite the door Lord Llywelyn had snapped shut before he felt cold metal shoved painfully against his cheekbone. He blinked at the familiar barrel of a pistol and followed the arm holding it to stare into Gregory St. Leon’s face.

His smile was dark. “Shall I test my newest model pistol on you,
Your Grace
?”

Roderick sighed. It was going to be a long wait.
