Honor gasped. She struggled to keep her eyes open and locked on him. His warmth enveloped her, soothing her body, soul, and heart.

Even in the dim lighting of her apartment she could read how the beautiful contours of his face defined what felt so natural between them. A friendship that kindled a soul-deep passion and raged on through long nights of sharing beers and long talks about anything and everything.

She rested her palms over his chest, his heart a steady, strong beat beneath her touch much like the man she had fallen for long before she even realized.

He wrapped his hands on either side of her face and angled her to look at him. “Watch me take you, Honor.”

His command anchored her gaze on him. She tightened her grip on his shoulders, his now massaging into her hips. Jake clamped his hands around her hips and drove into her wet channel in one swift fusion of their bodies.

He lifted her off his shaft only to drive back into her, the tip hitting a bundled knot of nerves buried within her core.

Rocketing past pure pleasure and straight into pussy-clenching delight, she could do nothing but hold onto him.

She leaned forward to allow deeper penetration. Warm lips captured one nipple, then the other. He swirled his tongue around the sensitive buds, working the points tighter than she ever imagined possible.

He flexed his hips, pistoning deeper still. Her eyes rolled shut and her power reached out to him, fusing a connection of their energies.

Goddess, she loved how her body yearned for more of him. She had waited for so long, wanting this exact moment with him, not even her fantasies lived up to the actual way he made her body sing to his touch.

“I’ve wanted to taste your delicious skin from the first day I saw you. Now that I have you in my mouth, I only want you. Again and again. I don’t think I’ll ever get my fill.”

Her heart swelled with the words he lavished on her. As though he could see into her mind and read her thoughts. Was that possible? Part of the bonding? She had so many questions.

“I want you turned around and bent over in front of me.” His voice rumbled with his command and her body responded with a rush of fervent heat.

With a solid grip on her hips, he flipped her over to her stomach. Pure shock and a surge of pleasure brought her ass up and into his waiting hands.

He worked her into position, gliding his dick into her center once more. With a firm hold he pulled her into the dip of his pelvis. She clutched a handful of the soft leather sofa for leverage. A cry slipped past her lips and she thrust back as he drove forward to create a delicious friction that catapulted her into another realm past where her magick or any battery-operated boyfriend could take her.

He leaned over her back and reached around her to stroke the bud between her slick folds. Electric shocks pulsated through her. So close. So, so, close to teetering over the edge.

He drove into her with a slow, powerful thrust only to pull back out again and repeat his delicious torture.

“Come here.” Jake withdrew from her body and turned her around. He lifted her to straddle him and he walked her over to the window. He nestled her close and she had no fear of him letting her slip. Shafts of moonlight broke through the closed window to reflect in his eyes. She loved watching the silver light cascade over his naked torso. He was born to the night and it suited him perfectly. “I want to take you in the moonlight, then claim you as mine.”

Please, yes.
Her heart tripped along, and her breath caught in her chest.

“Does that frighten you, baby?” His shoulders stiffened beneath her grip.

She worried her lower lip and scanned his face for any other signs of what he might be feeling, but it seemed only he had that kind of insight or perhaps was only good at hiding his feelings. She would bet money on the latter.

He leaned her against the wall and positioned the head of his shaft at the entrance of her wet slit. With her heels pressed against his firm buttocks, she sank onto his length and worked him into her. There was no room for fear between them, and if it took all night for her to prove it to him, she could handle the task.

Her nails dug into his shoulders, pulling him closer. Her back arched, pushing her shoulders into the wall, driving him deeper.

“No fear. No hesitation, Jake. But you already know that. Now take me.”

She dipped her mouth to claim his. His jaw opened and she took the invitation to claim his mouth with a deep kiss. Her tongue danced over his, and it was all she could do to hold back from shouting from the rush of pleasure.

She wanted this. Wanted him. She pulled back and broke their kiss. “Is that why you were here? Closing the bar with me night after night? Because you knew I was your mate?”

She dipped and rolled her hips in a sensual tease. Jake nodded. In a rough voice he added, “In a nutshell, I didn’t know how to tell you my wolf had picked you. Hell, I wasn’t really sure until a couple of nights ago when I kissed you.”

He brushed the tips of his fingers along her sides and back down to grip the flesh of her hips again. She nearly came from the exquisite feeling of him holding her so close.

“The kiss. That’s why you left? After all the time we’ve spent together you didn’t know until you kissed me?” She held her breath, waiting for his answer, but some small part of her already knew. It all made sense now.

He shook his head. In a gravelly voice that punctuated his response, he answered, “I must have thought of a million different ways to tell you, claim you, but nothing measures up to the actual sweet feel of your body wrapped round me.”

A pulsing pleasure throbbed along the nerves of her clitoris. She clenched the muscle of her channel around his shaft and swirled her hips. “I like how you move over me, baby. A perfect fit.”

He parted her cheeks and drove into her in a slow, torturous rhythm.

Gradually, he picked up momentum, slamming into her, hitting her clit with each plunge. Raw desire overwhelmed her and her power answered, vibrating just beneath the surface, begging for the same connection she craved. “Harder.” The single command tore from her lips. She wanted all of him in her. Not just his cock, but his heart too. “Take me, Jake. All of me.”

“Careful what you wish for, my little witch. I have a ferocious appetite.”

Jake growled and his grip tightened. “Hold on.”

As if she had a choice.

He rocked into her and the feel of his muscles as they rippled beneath her touch made her ache to have him closer.

“Tell me how you want it, baby.”

“Harder. Faster. And for goddess’s sake, fucking kiss me.”

“Your wish, my command.”

She locked her ankles and fell into a wave of mesmerizing sensations that took over her entire body as he delivered on his promise. Deep within her, his shaft pulsated, shooting her own orgasm higher.

Her powers breached the surface and created a visible rush of midnight blue energy to dance along their entwined bodies, seeking out the bond. Tingles of her magick glided along her skin and fused with his to create an energy she had never felt before. How could two people hold so much power? Savage heat melded them as one. Their combined magick now flooding both their systems.

A deep ethereal snarl tore from his lips and he arched back, driving deeper into her channel one final time. Just as quickly, he pushed forward, crashing his lips into hers in a fevered kiss.

Bursts of fear, joy, sorrow and happiness jumbled and meshed together so tightly she no longer knew if it were her own or his. Burdens of a violent past settled over her mind, the weight not of her memories, but of his. Flashes of blood and dirt, humans turned wolves flickering in and out of her mind’s eye.

Her eyes sprang open and connected with his. A wild, raw mixture of doubts and pleasure inundated her mind until the wave of emotions settled over hers to meld into harmony. She took a long, steady breath, reeling from what had just happened.

Fascinated, she couldn’t take her eyes off his. Ruby shards receded. Swirls of steel gray replaced a raging tempest only to settle into an eclectic combination of blues.

Taken aback, she stroked the back of her fingers down the side of his face. “Your eyes—they’re beautiful.” He leaned into her touch and she placed a tender kiss to his lips. “And brighter,” she whispered in awe, not wanting to break the spell.

“You’re one to speak, gorgeous.” A grin worked the corners of his mouth up and she couldn’t help but claim one more taste. His tongue delved between her lips and her pussy quivered for more of his attention.

He tore away and threw his head back with a roar. The sound so starkly different from the growl before. It said:
She’s mine.

Emotions channeled through their newly forged connection, spiking her heart rate threefold and she felt it down to the very bottom of her soul.

Moonshine bathed his black hair in beams of pure light. The call of his wolf reached for her and her powers answered.

Jake lowered his gaze and pinned her against the wall with his chest while he cradled her on his hips. “Want to see my wolf’s mark?”

He stepped back and let her body glide down the chiseled planes of his torso and abs. Hardened muscle covered with a light dusting of hair met the soft skin of her palms. Goddess, could he be any more perfect for snuggling? And fucking. Definitely fucking.

A low heat started in her center and spread like wildfire to tinge her cheeks. Holy Hades, he’d take one look at her and think she only wanted his body. “I don’t need to see you, baby, to know you need me. But I admit, you flush a pretty shade of pink when I’m near you.”

She ducked her head. Did he just read her mind or had she said that aloud? Jake growled a delicious rumble that worked into her and stroked her libido. Despite still being wet from their last rendezvous, hot liquid pooled between her thighs. Less than five minutes and she was ready for more.

With a hand to her shoulder he turned her around to face the mirror hanging to the side of them. “Look.”

She froze, her breath caught in her chest. She stumbled forward for a closer look. Her once whiskey-colored eyes now mimicked Jake’s coloring. A sapphire so bright she could only think of it as arctic blue.

“Your magick and my alpha powers are intertwined. My wolf feels your magick as your powers feel me.” Jake moved up behind her, pulling her back to rest on his chest.

“You can read my mind, can’t you? Or at least feel my emotions?” Their gazes connected through the mirror.

“In a way. It’s more my wolf sensing your emotions. Knowing when you’re in trouble, when you’re angry or happy. Or...” Jake peppered kisses along her shoulder and up the crease of her neck, “like now, in need of something more.” Through the mirror he appraised her curvaceous figure highlighted in the silver moonlight. And there was no hiding his saucy grin.

“But why did I see flashes of your past, your fears, and even happy thoughts?” She turned to face him.

Working her arms to rest around his shoulders, he tilted his head. “Interesting. What else did you see?” His brows creased, but he wasn’t going to give anything away until she answered.

CHAPTER SIX

S
he slipped her fingers into lengths of his hair. “Flashes of memories, I think. Of the times we’ve spent together just relaxing. Your childhood, the loss of your father. The fight that saved your brother. I mainly felt the cold of winter nights and saw the full moon shining down on fresh powder. I heard howls and a tangled web of thoughts I couldn’t decipher. I guess the only thing I took away from it is that you love the snow, the winter and,” she paused, “how much you really miss your father.”

He pulled back to look down at her. “You’re talking about something that hasn’t happened for over a hundred years in my pack. That mind-reading thing might be something, after all. I didn’t realize.”

“What do you mean?”

“I sat back in the corner of your bar trying to figure out what the hell had me so drawn to you. I mean, you’re beautiful, baby, a wonderful friend, but a wolf and a witch isn’t exactly traditional. You know that. Something held me here, and I couldn’t walk away even with other shifters of my pack willing to mate with me.”

Cold stabs of jealousy cut at her. She shoved the strange emotion into the back of her mind and tilted her head in understanding, motioning with her eyes for him to continue.

“With the need to mate, and the pull you had on my wolf, I didn’t recognize it until now. I guess it needs time to strengthen. We’ve mated on a level beyond just our powers. Our souls have melded together to form an unbreakable bond. You’ll be able to see my thoughts, know my feelings, but deeper than that, you’ll be able to communicate with me in human and wolf form. And me with you.”

“Are you saying I’ll never have another private thought?” Fear spiked in her chest and she could feel her muscles tensing one at a time. This was something she never expected. Never even heard of. Then again, she only had a vague understanding of pack law and how shifter culture worked. The Council didn’t exactly smile down on interracial mating, so this was all new.

“No. Honor, Listen to me.” Jake worked her gaze back to his. “I’ll never intrude on your thoughts. It’s a connection, when mastered, it can be controlled. If that’s what you want. Maybe with time you’ll learn to trust me with your most private thoughts, but until then, I’ll teach you how to shield your mind.”

He stroked his fingers across her cheek to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.

She tilted her head to one side, and they stared at each other in the half-light. Bucket after bucket of emotions flooded her mind. She stilled her thoughts, letting his heartbeat under her palm anchor her to the here and now. “I took something from you tonight, and for that I’ll never be able to show how sorry I am. In return, you stole a piece of me.”

Jake pulled out of her reach and turned to look out the window, giving her his back. “So that’s it. How I feel for you means nothing, baby?” He shifted to the side, a low growl slipped past his lips, warning her his wolf was close to the surface. She could feel the fear of losing her that ran through their connection. “I’m sorry you see it that way. All I’m asking is for you to give it time, give me time. Just a little time, Honor.” His last a gravely plea that melted her heart.
