Kelly’s Cardinal Rule

Your smile speaks louder than words, so be sure to take care of your teeth. Besides my hair and my legs, the one thing people always ask me about the way I look is how I keep my teeth so white. And, yes, that’s also a matter of genetics. I’m blessed with the whitest teeth on the planet, and, no, I’ve never had them professionally bleached. But I also have tons of cavities, and I wore braces and an expander for four years followed by a retainer. Oral hygiene has always been really important to me, and it should be to you, too. Use white strips, get invisible braces if you need them, and brush your tongue as well as your teeth.
Bad breath is bad!

Saturday: Heat Up Your
Hot
Image with Healthy Options Today

Everyone dreads Monday. Wednesday is hump day. Then there’s TGI Friday. But Saturdays seem to have different functions for different people. Some people are “regroupers” who spend the day organizing their closets, doing laundry, mowing the lawn, and basically catching up on all the things that didn’t get done during the week. They usually exercise in the morning and by evening they’re ready to have fun and “let it all hang out.” Others are “let-loosers” who couldn’t care less if their closets are messy or the laundry is done. They’ve probably already let loose on Friday night and they’re ready to do it all over again. Truthfully, I believe that in the best of all possible worlds you should be doing a bit of both.

Whether you’re doing chores or just hanging out, you need to keep moving,
and
you need to take some time for yourself. Maybe in the morning you’ll be doing errands or cleaning the house. Consider those tasks a form of exercise. Then have a great nutritious lunch and, in the afternoon, go for a bike ride, walk the mall, walk through a museum or a gallery, take a brisk walk in the park, or go window shopping with your friends. Do whatever it is you enjoy that also keeps you moving. Don’t just wander aimlessly. If you’re in the mall, go to different stores and figure out which looks will make you HOT. Ask other shoppers for advice. They have no agenda and aren’t trying to sell you anything. Become the editor of your wish-list wardrobe. If you’re in a museum or gallery, use the art works for inspiration. How would you redecorate your room? Is there a color scheme that speaks directly to you? Parks are great for people-watching. Who looks fit and healthy? How about a game of Frisbee? The whole world is out there for the taking so grab the gold ring. Once you’re well fed you can do and be anything you want.
Nothing
is beyond your reach.

Fun activities still need to be
active.
Keep on moving.

Whether you’re a regrouper or a let-looser, Saturday night can be deadly if you wake up feeling bloated, sluggish, and with deep regrets on what should be your Sunday Funday. It’s possible to party without looking and feeling like roadkill the next day.

We all have those nights when we want to go out, and a few drinks extend the evening into a late-night adventure. Then you wake up the next morning wondering
why
you ate those pancakes at 4:00 a.m. So eat
before
you go out. If you eat well, you’ll have more energy to stay up and have fun with your friends, and you can’t live on alcohol alone! So stick to your plan and
then
go out and have a few drinks. Have a glass of water for every alcoholic drink and you’ll keep flushing the alcohol out of your system. You’re not going to get fat from having a few drinks once a week. You will get fat if your routine is to drink, eat late, and then lie around watching television the next day, eating and making bad food choices. Going out is fun, but when you sacrifice the next day, it’s never fun enough. Don’t have regrets; enjoy every day. This is a life plan, and yesterday isn’t coming back ever again.
