Syna’s brows drew together. Closing her book she placed it on the table in front of her. “What’s going on Kat?” She studied her closely, her color seemed fine and her eyes seemed bright, both signs that this was not about needing to feed. “I can tell this isn’t about hunger.”

Kat shook her head frantically, she didn’t feed from anyone but Kale… she couldn’t and more importantly she would never cheat on her baby-faced true mate. “No, it’s nothing like that.”

Syna nodded and reached in her pocket. Pulling out a key with the Mercedes symbol stamped on it hanging from a pair of ruby-red lips sporting a set of fangs, she handed them over to Kat with a smile.

“Really?” Kat suppressed a laugh.

Syna shrugged. “I do love me some vampire fangs. Now, take my car, Evan will let the gate guards know to let you out.”

Kat looked to Evan whose lips curled into a devilish grin, his fangs pressing lightly against his lower lip. “I am admittedly ruled by my little succubus. There is little she asks of me that I will not do. Your excursion will remain between us. What shall we tell Marie should she ask where you disappeared to?”

Kat smiled. “You’re a smart vampire. I know you’ll think of something.”

“We got this, Katarina.” Syna smiled at her. “However, if you need me, I am of course always here for you.”

They had been through so much together and there was no doubt in Kat’s mind that she could always trust Syna, and in turn, Evan as well.

“Thank you… both of you.”

Twenty minutes later Kat found herself standing before a large non-descript concrete building. Glancing at the plain business card held between her elegant fingers, she checked the address once more before straightening her shoulders and heading for the tinted glass doors. Only once she moved through the first set of doors did she the white block letter emblazed on the second set of tinted doors become visible, telling her she was indeed in the right place.

You can do this. She reassured herself, plastering a smile on her face as she entered the final set of doors and greeted the young brunette at the front desk.

Chapter Eighteen

Samira took a deep breath as she pushed open Makyle’s door. Stepping into his room, she shut the door behind her and placed her hands on her hips as she stared at his back. She could feel the heated emotions rolling off of him.

“Are we going to talk about this? Because if I didn’t know any better, I would say you were acting like a jealous boyfriend.”

Makyle turned to face her. “I don’t get jealous. It’s not an emotion I experience.”

Samira nodded in mock agreement. “Just like you don’t feel love or fear, right?”

“What are you getting at, Samira?”

“You forget I can feel you… I don’t understand everything that this link tells me, but you were jealous down there because you saw a connection between Zander and I. You can deny and pretend all you want, but I can feel it,” she said, as she strode towards him.

Makyle folded his arms over his chiseled chest. The shirt he wore strained over the ridges and hollows of his broad form. He watched her carefully.

She stopped only inches from him and mimicked his stance. “Be honest with me. Admit it.”

Makyle wasn’t used to others making demands of him… or just a few years ago he hadn’t been. Just a few years ago he wouldn’t have feared the answer he demanded from others, but as he peered down at Samira and this question fell from his lips, something tightened in his chest as he awaited her answer. “Were you in a relationship with him?”

Her lips twitched into a satisfied smile as she cupped his face. “No,” she laughed.

“Why are you laughing at me?”

“I’m not… well, maybe a little, but do you realize what’s happening to you? You’re experiencing the most important part of living. You’re alive and feeling true emotion.” Her voice took on a sultry tone as she continued. “And it’s hot that you’re jealous.”

He glared playfully at her. “You understand why, right? Because I understand that the sight of him touching you made me want to rip his head off—it’s because I’ve fallen in love with you.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he lifted her up so their lips could meet in a searing kiss. “I think I’ve fallen for you, too,” she murmured.

With swift movements she couldn’t trace, they were both nearly naked, and he was laying her down on the supple covers of his massive bed. He kissed her hungrily, only breaking the contact when he sat on the bed and pulled her into his lap. He pushed her hair from her shoulder and kissed her neck softly. Sliding his palms down her ribcage to her hips, he hooked her panties with his thumbs and pushed them down her toned thighs. Pulling her legs back, she kicked the material to the ground. Straddling him with her back to his chest, she pulled at the hem of his boxers. He lifted and discarded them on the floor next to hers.

Samira bit her bottom lip as his heavy, solid length sprang free. She scooted forward, brushing against his flesh with her wet core, teasing her clit with the head of his cock.

There was a deep ache gnawing at her soul, and she knew as his lips caressed her silky flesh that he was the only one who could satiate her hunger. Her fingers grazed over his velvety flesh just before she finally lifted up and came back down. Her toes curled as his flesh breeched her entrance, stretching her walls and filling her completely.

“Oh fuck,” she breathed.

“Mmmm, you feel like perfection, Sam,” he whispered softly into her ear.

She moved slowly as his hand slid down her stomach and his finger found her budded pearl. With gentle precision, he circled her clit and teased her sensitive flesh.

“Oh, God,” she murmured, then leaned forward, bracing herself on his thick thighs. Her fingers bit into his skin. Makyle’s palms grazed over her skin to grip her hips, guiding her into a smooth rhythm of pure rapture, spurred by undiluted passion.

Samira felt him to her very core. She felt her soul lighten as she made love to him. Realizing, as she called out his name in untainted pleasure, that she never wanted to be anywhere else. The root of her anger truly came down to need and want of the man who had chosen to save her, but in the end, had abandoned her. She let circumstance make her bitter. She would never again allow herself to fall victim to the venomous emotions that led her to such loneliness. She would fight to stay at his side no matter the cost.

“Makyle!” She screamed his name as his nails raked up her back and his palms eventually clasped her shoulders. With a hard pull, he slammed her down against him, sending her spiraling over the edge.

Her walls pulsed and milked his cock, his hips pounding against her, their flesh slapping together in a desire inducing melody. His orgasm took hold and his seed flooded her sheath. Samira nearly fell over yet another edge as she felt pleasure pulsing through him. His orgasm was just as intense as her own and she reveled in every second their link allowed her to feel the power of their love making. With his last drop given to her, he turned her to face him. Snaking his fingers through her thick tresses, he gazed into her golden eyes.

“I love you, Samira.”

She smiled. With her hands placed against his chest, she leaned forward. “I love you, too,” she said before capturing his mouth.

Scooting to the edge of the bed, he pulled her legs around his waist and stood up. She could feel him hardening as he moved toward the bathroom.

“What are you doing?” she questioned.

“We’re sweaty.”

She laughed. “That happens with hot sex.”

“Mmmm, yes, I know.”

For some reason, that comment bothered her. Of course he’d had plenty of conquests, but she didn’t want to think about them… instead she smiled as she thought of his burst of jealousy earlier.

Makyle started the water and stepped into the large, tile stall. Pinning her between his hard body and the wall, he dipped his face, locking his gaze with hers as his tongue grazed over the marred skin of the scar he’d left on her so many years before. While staring deep into one another’s eyes, he thrust his hips and took her once more in the warm spray of water.

Chapter Nineteen

Izzy sat with Kyra in her lap, her fingers mindlessly brushing through her golden curls.

“Can I join you?”

Izzy lifted her gaze to Samira uneasily lurking in the entryway of the Hole. She nodded, and Samira came and sat next to her.

“You still mad?”

Izzy shook her head. “No, you make him happy. That’s all I want. However, I know all of these emotions are new to him, and I don’t want to see him hurt.”

Samira nodded. “I get it. I must seem bipolar where Makyle is concerned, but I do love him. And, as far as Zander goes, he was good to me when Kadar was not.”

Izzy lifted Kyra from her lap and set her on her feet. “Go get your swimsuit on. Give me and Samira a couple minutes, and I will take you to the pool.”

Kyra smiled brightly. “Okay! Bye, Samira.”

Samira smiled. “Bye, Kyra.”

Once Kyra was gone, Izzy looked back to Samira. “If it takes Zander’s freedom to help us get to Kadar, then that’s what the warriors will do. They’re reasonable men.”

“I see that. So do I get to ask about the spell you were working on?”

Izzy grinned. “It’s ready. All we need is Makyle to break the link.”

Samira stood up and offered her hand to Izzy. “Let’s go get him. Then, maybe I can join you and Kyra at the pool.”

Izzy smiled, taking her hand. “That sounds good to me. The more people, the more fun—especially when it comes to Marco Polo.”

Bain sat across from Cree, deep in thought. He was trying desperately to be reasonable. “I hate that fucking luck eater,” he grumbled.

Cree smiled. “I know that. That’s why we are having this conversation.”

Bain sighed. “I don’t trust him.”

“With good reason… we all have to be cautious. That being said, I’ve spoken with him, and Lothar believes his feelings towards Samira and his willingness to help are both genuine.”

Bain rested his elbow on the arm of the chair he sat in and leaned his head against his fist. “Do you trust that he won’t go for the lamp the second we get there?”

Cree smirked. “The thought did cross my mind… I have a plan for that, though.”

Bain arched a brow. “Oh yeah? Care to fill me in?”

“He gets us to the house, and we keep him out.”

Bain chuckled. “That seems simple enough. How are we breaking this plan down?”

“My thought is you, myself, and Uriah take Zander into Darion's land, and we go after Kadar and the lamp. I’ll leave Lothar in charge here with Holly and Kale.”

Bain arched a brow. “And Izzy? You want her to stay behind with Makyle and Samira? I am interested in seeing how this conversation goes.”

Cree shrugged his shoulder. “Yes, well, the fewer of us crossing the borders, the better. We don’t know what is happening with Darion and Esperanza. They were after Makyle only a couple of weeks ago. I don’t want to give them the opportunity to get a hold of him. As far as Izzy goes, I don’t want her in their sights, either.”

“Don’t you think it might be best to bring Lothar along?”

“He certainly has come into his new powers, but he is second in charge, and I plan to be a part of the group heading into the Dark Lands. So, he needs to stay here, and I believe the reasons for having Kale and Holly stay behind are obvious.”

Bain dipped his chin. “Because once Kale starts throwing fire around, we lose the stealth of the mission, and of course I get why Holly isn’t going.”

“Then let’s get everyone together and get this going. The sooner we have the escapee, the sooner we can be rid of Makyle’s brothers.”

“That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day,” Bain said, as he stood and headed for the door.

Makyle, Samira, Izzy, Kale, Lothar, and Holly watched as Bain, Uriah, and Cree—with Zander held by the back of his neck—took flight. Dusk had fallen, and a rich mixture of pink and orange gave way to a deep blue. They all watched as the warriors’ silhouettes disappeared from sight.

“What now?” Izzy asked.

Kale grinned. “A bottle of Patrón and a game of pool.”

Izzy looked to Lothar, who shrugged. “Why not? Though, I’ll pass on the Patrón. We need to remain vigilant, but there is little to do for now, aside from worrying. We should at least try to enjoy one another’s company while we wait.”

Kale slung an arm around Izzy’s shoulders. “Come on, little Latina, I know you’ll drink some tequila with me.”

“One shot. Then, I am gonna whoop your ass at a game of pool.” She laughed.

Makyle sighed. “I still don’t know how you drink that swill.”

Kale grinned. “You call it swill; I call it heaven in a bottle.”

“Hardly heaven; it’s horrid.” Makyle’s face took on a look of disgust as he recalled shooting the clear, harsh liquid.

“I’m so sorry it’s not nearly as sweet as the Pink Muffs you favor.”

Samira laughed. “Pink Muffs? Oh, do tell, what is in a Pink Muff?”
