No one ever said life was easy, or that true love didn’t come at the ultimate price. It took facing death and almost causing another for me to appreciate how fragile each of us was. When I thought I was rewarded for accepting my place on this earth with my Master, it took losing him before I realized that even if it was brief, what we shared was special. After all, even though he left me, he’d given me the biggest gift of all—pure love—with a woman who wanted nothing more from me than my time.

Death may have found its way into my life again by taking Ms Jo, but with Jaime returned to my side, I learned the biggest lesson of all. Without trial and hardship, the appreciation for the blessings we were bestowed would cease to exist. And I
was
blessed. Not only to have Jaime by my side and Ms Jo in my heart, but that I had the gratefulness that came from the lessons.

Wind whipped through my hair and where I once found regret when I thought of this cliff, now there was closure—happiness. An end to a chapter of my life, and the beginning to a new one.

Jaime looked up at me from where he was kneeling. I could barely stop my hand from shaking in his. “I know you were apprehensive coming here at first, but I don’t want you to have bad memories of this place anymore. There are no words and no amount of sacrifice that can define how much I love you. When I jumped off of this cliff, I never once thought of me. It was always about you. It will
always
be about you. And now I’m hoping it will be about us. Every day. Every minute. I will never forget the gift we were given by finding each other. I want that forever.” He pulled out a ring from his pocket and I couldn’t stop the tears from falling. “Marry me. Be my wife. Spend the rest of your life letting me show you how much your love means to me.”

Tear blinded me and I nodded, lowering to my knees to be closer to him. “God, yes. Yes.” I didn’t bother to wipe the tears as Jaime slid the ring on my finger and pulled me into his arms. The location couldn’t have been more perfect for what we’d both been through. It was, after all, the day he’d risked his life to save mine. It was our first chapter—the hardest of any fairytale. Now after six months of dating, we were plunging even deeper into our story.

“I believe that’s,
Yes, Master
,” he said, kissing my lips. “And because it’s a very special day, I’ll make your punishment easy on you.”

“You better not.”

His lips met mine again and he laughed, helping me to my feet. My heart was racing and so full of joy as he brushed back my hair.

“Are you happy, slave?”

“More than happy. I don’t think I can explain how much. I never knew life could be like this.”

“It’s only going to get better. We’ve just begun.”

“Are you happy?” I asked, studying his face.

Jaime lifted my hand, placing my fingers up so that the ring was in clear view. Light reflected against the large diamond and I looked from it to him as he spoke. “I am the happiest man alive. I’ll be even happier when I’m sliding the other band to this set on your finger.
My wife
… I can’t wait to say those words.”

“I can’t wait to hear them.”

Pressure gripped into my lower back as he pulled me more into his body.

“Do you know what
else I like, slave?”

“Tell me, Master.”

“I’d much rather show you.”

Where I expected Jaime to kiss me, he didn’t. Instead, he turned, holding my hand as he led us in the direction we’d come. The shade from the canopy of branches above left me shivering in their cover. Fall was ending and the breeze was cooler than usual. My Master broke his grip, shrugging off his jacket to wrap around me. The walk back to where we were parked was leisurely and we couldn’t stop stealing glances at each other.

What did Jaime have up his sleeve? What did he plan to show me?

We got in and he started the car. Before I could ask where we were going, he leaned over the console, lifting my long dress until it rested in my lap. He brushed his lips over my thigh, biting the sensitive skin with just enough force to cause me to gasp. Up and down he made a path with his fingertips over my calves, easing them slightly more apart as his head rose higher toward my panties. Clicking registered and metal locked just above my ankles. My heavy lids shot open and surprise left my mind stalling. He had the glovebox open and the cuffs on my wrists before I could so much as process what was going on.

“This is what I like,” he said, meeting my stare. “All I ever wanted was you, slave. To claim you, to love you.
For you to love me.
What we have is special. We were meant for each other, there’s no doubt in my mind. But like with any relationship, where there’s light there’s darkness. It’ll come and go, but if you ask me, the dark is where we thrive. We control our demons there. And it works for us.” He drew back, lifting my hands to kiss my ring finger. “Never forget the commitment I give to you. Throughout our life, that ring on your finger isn’t going to be the only thing marking you as mine. You’re going to feel my love for you everywhere.
Forever.
