His booted feet echoed over the hardwood floors and then when he reached the bed, his lips kicked up. The tall bed was piled high with pillows, the perfect height for so many things. He waggled his eyebrows even though she couldn’t see him, and tossed her unceremoniously on top.

“What the...” her mouth dropped open as she raked her hair back from her face.

“As your future mate, I declare it is my duty to make sure you are properly cared for. In that, you can’t be putting yourself in danger.” He thought of exactly how close he’d come to losing her, and sobered. Their bond wasn’t as strong as a full mating. His wolf needed it like he needed air.

She lay back on her elbows, staring up at him without a hint of fear. “That goes both ways, Jett. I know what we’re facing. Keith isn’t your average shifter. I’ve faced him and his beasts my entire life.” Her whole body shivered.

Jett waited for her to continue, staring down at her as the moonlight filtered in through the thin curtains. When she didn’t seem prepared to elaborate, he kicked off his boots, then tugged hers off. He grabbed her by the ankles and placed her in the center of the bed, loving the way she smiled.

Once he had her in the middle of the bed, her clothes tossed to one side and his piled on top, he propped himself on his elbow, staring down at her. “Tell me about your life. I don’t mean your glossed over version. I want to know everything. Let me in, Taryn. I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours.” He could tell she wanted to refuse, but his gorgeous wild thing of a mate exhaled, and then nodded.

“I think you need to know what you’re getting before we go any further. You don’t want to saddle yourself to me until you know everything.” Her voice quavered.

It was the way she said the words. As if he would choose not to mate her, that made him rethink talking first. It didn’t matter who her father was. Hell, Jett knew what kind of monster Keith was, and could only imagine the terrible things she’d seen and suffered through as a child and an adult. All those things didn’t matter to him. Taryn was it. His mate. His wild wolf, or whatever being she could become. He loved her. His wolf stopped pacing. He’d never admitted to loving a woman, but in that moment clarity was a beautiful thing. Not as beautiful as the woman lying next to him with such uncertainty in her clear blue eyes.

“Taryn, I love you. No matter who or what helped create you.” She opened her mouth, but he was done with the talking. He’d never been that good at words, instead he used his body, hoping she could feel what was in his heart. He opened his mind and let her see what she meant to him.

At first she was stiff, still waiting for a rejection, but then her body melted into his.

She sank her fingers into his hair. “You love me? How?”

Jett chuckled, moving over her, entwining their fingers over her head. “How could I not. You sass me at every turn. You challenge me, and fit me perfectly. Not to mention, I love purple.” He bent and kissed her. “You’re mine.”

She pushed up against him. “That means you’re mine, too. No more chicks at the bars, Mr. Magic Mike impersonator.”’

He laughed. “I don’t think I am quite the erotic dancer.”

“The fuck. You clearly haven’t watched yourself dance.” She twisted against him, making thoughts of everything fall away except claiming her.

“I promise to only dance for you,” Jett murmured and kissed her. Their tongues met and danced together. Yeah, he could totally get drunk on the sweet taste of her. His wolf growled its approval, ready to stake its claim and make her theirs completely.

He broke the kiss to nibble down her jaw to her neck, licking at her throat where he’d sink his teeth. His fingers were busy, plucking at her nipples. Before he’d mark her, Jett wanted to bring her to climax. With that in mind, he moved down her body, nipping at the tip of one pert breast. Both hardened tips begged for his attention, and she was writhing beneath him, her hands clawing at his back as he continued down her flat stomach.

“Damn, you smell amazing.” He inhaled, settling between her legs. He pushed her thighs apart, the pearl of her clit stood at attention, so he blew on it. His head bent and he kissed the exposed nub, making her buck, and grip his hair. He rumbled his pleasure, the sound an added friction against her.

He tilted his head, allowing the piercing on his tongue to flick out and around, moving further down, he pushed inside her pussy, moaning at the sweet spicy flavor. Lifting her ass up with his hands, he licked as deeply as he could, making her moan and thrash.

“Oh, god, Jett. Yes, right there.”

He growled, happy she loved his wolf side, licking her cream while she came and then delved back inside her pussy.

Her thighs shook, and her fingers tightened in his hair. “Inside me. I need you, now.”

With her heels digging into his back, he looked up and let her watch as he sucked her clit into his mouth one more time. He sank two fingers into her clenching depths and wiggled the hardened nub into his mouth, back and forth as he pumped in and out, growling, until she came again, screaming his name. She jerked against him, rubbing herself against his face as he continued to lick and growl, until she settled back against the bedding.

Jett looked up, lazily licking his way through her folds. Taryn lifted her head, and her blue eyes held his. “Please, make me yours, Jett.”

“You don’t have to ask me twice.” He swiped his tongue over his bottom lip.

He climbed up the center of her body, covering her from head to toe, gripping his dick in one hand, setting it against her pussy. She gasped as he pressed inside one inch at a time. He watched as his dick disappeared into her velvet depths. The slick heat gripped him like a fist and he pulled out only to slide in a little deeper, repeating the motion until he was balls deep. It took all his control to not come right then and there as their bodies were touching at every point.

She moaned, and he pulled out until only the head was inside and then powered back in. He set up a rhythm that was sure to kill him.

Her nails lengthened, and he increased the slow pace, picking it up until they were fucking as fast as he could, without coming before he brought her off again. The headboard banged against the wall, and they moved together as if they’d done it a million times. He slipped one hand between them and began teasing her clit with the fingers of his right hand. His name was shouted from her lips as she came, the walls of her pussy clenching tightly, pushing him over the edge.

His vision blurred and his balls drew up. The need to mark his mate his sole focus, his canines slipped down, and Taryn turned her head. “Do it. Mark me.”

As he felt his orgasm spurting out, he licked the spot he was going to mark her, the place everyone would see, and then bit down.

“Yes,” she screamed and came again, shouting his name.

His own pleasure increased. He licked the small wound and then turned his neck, needing her to mark him. He wasn’t sure how it would work, but when her smaller teeth bit into his neck, he was shocked to feel his cock jerk, and more come bubble forth. The knot he’d heard about swelled, locking them together.

“Holy mother of all,” he groaned when he could catch his breath, rolling to the side, still connected with Taryn.

The spot she’d bitten didn’t hurt, but he felt it, like a tattoo. He wanted to see it for himself, but would have to wait until his dick released its hold. Of course, he enjoyed where he was and found himself stroking a gentle hand over the mark he’d placed on his mate. “How do you feel?”

“I’m good. That was amazing.”

He wanted to take a bow, but she didn’t answer his question. “I mean, did I hurt you. Did that hurt?” He ran a finger over the already healing wound. He’d seen Cora and Alaina after they’d been marked, and was sure their marks hadn’t looked quite as
smooth
as Taryn’s was.

Her pussy flexed on his softening cock and he groaned. “You made it perfect. All I felt was an overwhelming urge to bite you back. By the way, your mark looks awesome. I think we should get matching tats though.”

Blue eyes laughed up at him. Jett had never felt as lucky as he did in that moment. His dick softened and allowed him to slide from her.

“Now that we are properly mated, I want you to open up to me and know that there is nothing you have to hide. There is nothing that can make me not love you.” When she still looked uncertain, Jett pulled her on top of him. “Taryn, if you were to find something I’ve done in my mind, would you decide you couldn’t be with me?”

She shook her head. “Anything you did I’d know you had a reason.”

Jett nodded. “Exactly. I know that you did what you had to do in order to survive. You are what and who you are so you could be here today. I’m grateful for that. Now, open for me, baby.”

The things he witnessed inside her mind made him want to hunt down the bastard Keith, and kill him with his bare hands. Jett tried to hide his emotions, especially when he watched the image of her last beating. He catalogued the faces of all the men who stood around and allowed a woman being beaten by their
alpha.
The two women Taryn considered her friends seemed to be kind, but they were obviously scared and with reason. He was floored at her ability to heal from the wounds he felt and saw through the link.

He didn’t realize he’d pulled her down and wrapped his arms around her, holding her as if he could protect her from the past.

“It’s okay, Jett. I survived.” She stroked his face.

His wolf didn’t agree. “No it’s not. A man, an alpha would never do that to anyone, let alone a female, their child for fucksake.”

“I agree,” she whispered, a tear dropped onto his cheek.

Jett couldn’t handle seeing her tears in real time. He fisted his hand in the back of her hair. “Never again will he be allowed to touch you. I will kill him first.” Or he’d die trying. Jett kissed her. A sweet passionate kiss he hoped conveyed how much he cared for her.

His cock, recently spent, stirred to life. She lifted her lower body, and lowered herself on him. He sighed while she moaned as their bodies met. His hands went to her hips and helped her set the pace, gripping and digging into her flesh. “Make love to me, Jett. Let’s forget about everyone but you and me.”

Her arms wrapped around him and then she was kissing him. He could do nothing but do as she wished. “I love you, Taryn. Always and forever.”

“I’m a very lucky woman.” She lifted away from their kiss, leaning back and placing her hands on his thighs.

He swore his heart stopped at the sight. She lifted and fell, her breasts bouncing in time with the movement. Jett touched her clit with his thumb, rubbing in small circles and she came with a shudder and a scream, taking him with her. He held her against his chest, feeling their hearts beat in time. Silently he made a vow to protect her with his life, a vow he’d never break.

Chapter Nine

J
ett felt the wards break the moment their enemy entered their lands. He woke Taryn, with a hand over her mouth.
He is here.

Now that they were fully mated it was easy to speak through their connection. He sent a mental call to Niall, knowing his alpha had more than likely felt the breach as well. How the hell Keith was able to come onto their property was a mystery, but the fight would end tonight, or as he looked out the window, almost morning. He thought the being wasn’t as powerful in daylight, yet in just a couple more hours the sun would be cresting the horizon.

“I’m sorry.” She stood by the bed, looking down at her clasped hands.

He strode over to stand next to her. “Why? It’s not your fault. This fight has been brewing for decades. Emerson and Keith are brothers. He was looking for a way to get back at what he felt was a slight all those years ago. Don’t you ever apologize for that fucker again.” He pulled her into his arms, wishing they could climb back into bed and make love.

She took a deep breath, exhaling against his neck. “You’re right.”

He laughed. “Of course I am. I’m always right. You remember that, baby.” He winked, then linked their fingers and strode from the room. With senses heightened from years of battle he was aware when the first wolf entered the property he and Taryn had been given. “Shit, they’re here.” Sending a call for help to Niall and the rest of his pack, he looked to Taryn.

“It’s Keith and his two top enforcers. I can smell them. There’s no use trying to lock the doors, but I suggest we take it outside to keep from destroying the cabin.” Her voice was firm.

His eyes narrowed, but their time was dwindling. Within minutes the intruders would be on their doorstep. Jett shoved thoughts of everything except the fight out of his head. He’d seen for himself that Taryn could be a help, and not a hindrance. Retracing their footsteps, he shoved the screen out of the way and motioned for her to go out first, after he’d made sure the way was clear. Once they were both out of the house, they shifted into wolves. He wanted to take the time to admire her wolf, but the unmistakable sound of heavy footfalls could be heard.

I will take on Keith. You better stay safe.
He nuzzled her jaw.

Yeah, I know. I think you keep threatening to spank me.
Her voice didn’t have any teasing quality. They both smelled the unmistakable scent of the tainted wolves.

Jett readied himself to battle, bristling when the being who’d tortured and beaten his mate walked around the cabin like he owned the place. “Hello, little girl. Is that any way to greet your father?” Keith stood tall, his words came out of a half wolf, half man face.

Taryn didn’t cower away, moving closer to Jett’s wolf, a snarl escaped her.

“Tsk, is that any way to show respect? Teach her how we treat those who are disloyal boys.”

The two wolves with him leapt into action. Jett placed himself in front of the larger one, knocking him flat on his side. The scent of brimstone rose up from him. The beast got back up, shaking off the blow, baring his fangs. Jett took a moment to look back at Taryn, a distraction that cost him. Claws raked him in the side, but he twisted away from the jaws, launching himself at the throat of the slower wolf, biting down and shook until the beast fell lifeless beneath him.
