APPENDIX G

ON - LINE

If you have a computer and a modem, there are a lot of winemakers out there waiting to talk to you. Almost every commercial electronic mail outfit has hundreds of “discussion lists”—people who have a specific topic in mind who want to talk to other people about that topic. Home winemaking is one of them!

On the Internet, check under Usenet for rec.crafts.winemaking, and look around for discussion groups specializing in mead, cider, and perry, as well.

It’s a very interesting world out there. You can talk to people in New Zealand, Germany, India, and every other place that has electricity and someone willing to post a message on the net.

The World Wide Web is growing by leaps and bounds, too. If you look back at Appendix F, you will notice that a few of the wine supply places I listed have either E-mail or a WWW address, as do many wineries.

The Portage Hills site is particularly interesting and has many links to other wine interest sites, such as the WWWW page at http://www.uidaho.edu/stevep/wine/winehome.html. WWWW stands for World Wide Web of Winemaking, and it can lead you to discussion lists and FAQs (lists of Frequently Asked Questions). There are also links for some universities that have a special interest in winemaking, such as UC Davis and Cornell University.
