She sat up straight in her chair and said, “Hi, everyone, my name is Trish and I’m a survivor.”
The group said, “Hi, Trish.”
She said, “It’s been almost a year since the dogs took the monster’s life. Watching him die, torn apart like that, was easy; in a sick way, even gratifying. I know he’s gone...but getting him out of my head is another matter. Talking about it helps—that’s why I’m here—but he’s always with me. At night I close my eyes and I see him skinning that woman alive...
“When the story came out people were great, kind words and offers of support coming in from all over the world. The university’s covering my tuition for the next three years and my dentist put in a whole set of implants free of charge. Several good people offered to adopt the Rottweilers, but they were too far gone and had to be put down. I kept the Jack Russell for a while, but having him around was just too difficult. He’s living with a nice old lady in Toronto now. Overall, I’ve been doing okay. My studies are going well and I’m starting to sleep again.
“But there’s a twisted side to all of it, too. His carvings are selling on the Internet for thousands of dollars apiece now, and ghouls from Hollywood still track me down, offering quick fortunes for the movie rights to my story. But I only want it behind me. I lost myself. I almost lost my boyfriend.” She gave a wan smile and held up her left hand, showing a small engagement diamond. “My fiancée now.
“But I found my father, and that’s all I ever really wanted.”

Sean Costello is the author of eight novels and six screenplays, two of which are currently under option to film. Depending on the whims of his muse, Costello's novels alternate between two distinct genres: Horror and Thriller. His horror novels have drawn comparisons to the works of Stephen King, and his thrillers to those of Elmore Leonard. In the real world he's an anesthesiologist, but, if asked, he'd tell you he'd much rather be writing. Recently, all of his titles have been made available as ebooks, wherever ebooks are sold. Sean is currently hard at work on several new writing projects.
