Casually he leaned back on the couch. With a half-smile, he pulled his T-shirt loose from his jeans. Dragging it over his head, he then dropped it to the floor. Laney’s eyes widened again as her gaze moved down his chest. Heath wasn’t a vain man, but the look she gave him had his ego soaring.

“Sit here,” he instructed as he moved her to the seat beside him. Quickly he moved their beer bottles off his coffee table, tossing magazines and papers onto the floor. He stood and faced her. Slowly he pulled off his jeans and boxers. “You sure you want this, Laney?” he asked when he stood naked. He had to give her this last chance to leave, to back out, even if the thought nearly stole his breath.

“Oh yes.” She practically purred.

Heath smiled down at her. Oh this was going to be fun.

“Good, come here.”

Laney stood and stepped close to him so their naked bodies touched from chest to hip.

“I want you, Heath,” she told him honestly.

“Alpha,” Heath stated simply.

“What?” Laney looked confused again.

He figured the other men in her life would have taken her hard after her softly spoken little confession. The idea that anyone had touched her before caused his wolf to growl low, and Heath had to agree.

He was a Dominant; he didn’t bend to anyone’s will and he wasn’t about to start with this fiercely sexy woman no matter how hard she tried to turn the tables on him.

“Lesson number three: when you are with me you call me Alpha.”

“You don’t want to be called Master or Sir? I thought all Doms wanted that?” Laney asked as she oh so softly ground her crotch against him. Oh Lord he was going to enjoy mastering this woman.

“A Dom doesn’t explain himself to his sub, but as you are learning, I will this time. No matter how human I look I am a wolf at heart and an Alpha male. ‘Master’ or ‘Sir’ is simply not as strong to me and never will be.”

Laney nodded. He could see her mind whirling as she digested the information he had given her, yet during all that time she hadn’t stopped grinding herself against him.

Reaching up, he tapped her nose, bringing her focus back to him. “That’s three.” He saw her look down at their bodies. “You know what that means?” He shrugged, trying to show a casualness he didn’t completely feel.

“It was an accident!” Laney tried to backtrack.

“Too late, sweetheart. Rules are rules and now you will be punished.” His tone suggested the decision had been taken out of his hands but they both knew he was in control here.

“What are you going to do?” Laney’s voice resonated with both concern and lust.

Heath reached over his head and stretched out his long, hard body. He saw Laney flick a hungry glance down at his full cock. As he brought his arms back down he watched her swallow hard. He knew his eyes were now the yellow of his wolf; his smile flashed white fangs at her, and on his hands his claws had started to peek out.

“You had a question, my beta?” He allowed his voice to become more of a wolf’s growl. Laney’s breath hitched and he could see her pulse pick up as it beat in her throat.

“No, Alpha,” she finally said.

“Good girl.” He nodded approvingly. “You remember your word?” he asked one final time.

“Yes, Alpha.”

“What is it?”

“Cheese grater.”

Heath gave her a toothy smile before he took hold of the back of her head and around her waist and lifted her quickly. He startled a squeal out of her before placing her gently along the length of the coffee table. Heath took hold of her hands and curled them over the edge by her head.

“You have been a naughty beta and now you must be punished. You will endure. You will not move, touch me, or make a sound no matter what. Do you understand?” Heath waited for her nod before he gave her a quick wink. “Good girl.” Heath leaned down to kiss her, running his tongue along her lips’ closed fullness.

“Open for me,” he instructed. Laney opened her mouth, allowing him complete access to explore. Heath kneeled on the edge of the coffee table between her legs, keeping his body off hers with his arms braced on either side of her. The only place he touched her was her mouth, and he could see how crazy it was driving her.

He left her mouth with a final kiss before moving down her body. “I knew under those overalls you were hiding this body.” He latched onto one pert nipple. Laney’s body tensed as she tried to follow his instruction and not move. Heath allowed his fangs to gently scrape over the tip. He hid a grin at Laney’s barely contained groan.

“Yep, sure did. I knew what you were hiding. What other men couldn’t see, I saw.” He kissed and licked his way over her breasts, watching goose bumps cover her heated skin.

Taking his weight on his knee, Heath reached up and ran his claws from her collarbone, down her chest, and across her stomach oh so softly. Heath gave a half-smile as a shudder travelled down her spine, causing her to bite her lip to stop from moaning out loud.

Heath moved lower still. He spared her face a quick glance, bottom lip caught between her teeth, eyes closed, panting. Oh yeah, she was most definitely enjoying this and him. He moved to the juncture between her thighs. Without warning her, without hesitation, he leaned in and ate her pussy. Taking her clit between his lips he sucked, and with that one move Laney bowed off the table. Heath leaned over her once more, looking down into her face.

“I told you not to move, my beta,” he said, his own breath coming hard.

“I–" Laney stopped speaking; he could see her desire in her eyes, and knew that it reflected his own.

“You will endure.” This time Heath reached over her head to a small drawer in the coffee table. He rummaged inside and pulled out a silver packet. Holding the condom packet so she could see it, Heath watched the relief on her face. “Is this what you wanted, my beta? Do you want me in you, riding you hard?”

Laney nodded and licked her lips.

“But you are being punished, and you moved again when I told you not to. Do you think you deserve a reward?”

Laney looked at him with panic clear in her eyes that he wouldn’t finish what he had started.

“This is your first lesson so I’ll be lenient, but don’t think I’m weak. This is the only time I will let you get away with ignoring my instructions. Are we clear?”

Laney nodded again.

“My beta.” Heath smiled before he slid off the coffee table and sheathed his cock.

Heath kissed his way back up until he reached her lips. “Oh sweetheart, I could never have dreamed of this,” he said before casually running a finger over her crotch, calling his claws back. With one finger he pushed inside and watched her eyes close and a groan almost slip out. She was wet, so very wet for him. Heath sent a silent prayer to the heavens above. Yes, she was really in the moment with him.

He leaned between her legs and with a slow, measured thrust he stroked his cock into her, each move stretching her wider and pulling him closer and closer. When he was finally fully buried in her, Heath leaned down and kissed her. “Hold on, my beta, this is going to be fun.” With that he pulled back and thrust into her. He could see her trying to endure, trying to stop her moans and movement but she couldn’t handle it. Within seconds she wrapped her legs around his waist and was moaning out loud.

“Oh please don’t stop, please, oh God it feels so good,” she begged.

Heath moved faster. She was tight, so tight, but it felt like nothing he’d ever experienced before. He wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer. Increasing the pace, he pushed her closer and then over the edge. With a scream she tumbled into her orgasm. “Heath, oh yes!” Tremors rocked her body. He plunged into her again and again, following her over into their own personal nirvana.

He was panting hard when he collapsed onto her, enjoying Laney wrapping her arms around his waist.

“You know that’s not enduring,” he breathed into her ear.

“Guess I need another lesson,” Laney replied.

Heath chuffed out a laugh. If he didn’t know better, he would think she was his perfect match.

But he did know. She couldn’t be the one; she was not strong enough, not for what he needed. Not to stand with him against the threat Christophe posed.

Laney stretched her aching muscles as she sat at her father’s desk. Lord, that boy had seriously given her a workout this weekend. She’d thought that as soon as morning came Heath would take her home. She had been wrong. He barely let her out of bed for the last two days. Not that she was complaining, but it sure made sitting here doing the monthly accounts more uncomfortable than it usually was.

She had been so sure he would be happy with one night. A man like Heath didn’t stay with one woman for very long. In the past she watched as the women he dated barely lasted a week. Laney figured she’d been lucky he wanted her to stay the whole weekend, let alone for the night. After all, it wasn’t as if she was his type. She knew exactly what he needed. A little wolf girl who needed him to protect her and look after her, not someone like Laney who could fix cars and wore overalls more often than dresses, someone who was more “friend” material than girlfriend or wife.

The door to the office was shoved open, drawing her out of her melancholy thoughts. Her eldest brother, Duke, stood there. Her father was a huge John Wayne fan, as proven by her twin brothers John and Wayne. Laney smiled up at Duke but was greeted by a dark frown.

“What is this I keep hearing about you being in the Debden bar on Friday looking like some sort of streetwalker?” Duke seethed.

The smile slipped from her face as she raised an eyebrow at him. “What are you talking about now?” Laney loved all her brothers; unfortunately, Duke was the worst of the lot. Overprotective and overbearing, he refused to acknowledge she was a full-grown woman.

“I am talking about my sister being seen walking around town like some sort of barfly! If Heath hadn’t found you and taken you home then I don’t know what would have happened to you. What the hell were you thinking?” Duke shoved the door closed behind him and walked over to the desk. Bracing his fists in the middle of the paperwork, he leaned towards her. “Heath told me what happened.”

“What?” Laney felt the colour drain from her face. Duke and Heath were friends but she didn’t think they would share that kind of information. Oh Lord, Duke would kill her!

“He didn’t give me details but he implied that he found you in the bar and had to practically throw you over his shoulder to get you out of there! He explained how you threw yourself at him, and the gentleman that he is, he took you home and left you there,” he explained, glaring at her. “He was concerned, so he called in to the shop earlier; he said I should keep an eye on you. I just don’t understand what you were thinking, little sister.”

Laney could see him talking, and she knew some part of her brain was taking in the words, but right now all she could hear was white noise, like static in her ears. Heath, the low-down, good-for-nothing wolf, had run straight to her brother and told on her,
and
he hadn’t even told the truth. What the hell was he playing at?

“Are you even listening to me, Laney Jane St. Clair?” Duke’s short bark brought her back from images of one large wolf being beaten about the head.

“Yes, I am listening, and you know what I’m hearing?
Nothing of interest
! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do!” Laney looked back at the rows of numbers in front of her, ignoring Duke completely.

The man stood there staring daggers at her for another minute until his own temper flared.

“Fine! Be a child! But this isn’t over,” he warned before storming out of the office.

“No, it’s not,” Laney agreed as she reached for the phone. On the second ring a gruff voice answered.

“Yeah.” Heath practically growled down the line.

As angry as she was, the tone of his voice still sent a shiver of heat through her body. She shook her head, clearing it before she launched her attack on him.

“Do you realise that now my brother thinks I’m some sort of whore?” she hissed into the phone.

“Good afternoon to you too, Laney.” She could hear the smile in his voice.

“I knew you were a lot of things, Heath, but I didn’t take you for a tattler. The cherry on the cake was when Duke said how gentlemanly you were!” Laney seethed.
What had he been thinking?

“I
was
a gentleman, Laney. I made sure you got home nice and safe. There are all sorts of criminals out there; you just don’t know what’s waiting round the corner.” He was enjoying himself, she could tell, and that made her even crazier.

“Sure, I got home nice and safe after you spent the weekend doing a lot of very ungentlemanly things to me. I wonder how Duke would feel if I explained that to him?” Duke was as tall and muscular as Heath; they both could do with a few bruises so they’d remember she wasn’t a little girl.

A low growl flowed over the phone line. “Don’t threaten me Laney-girl.” He spoke softly, but she could hear the edge in his voice and it sent a frisson of excitement through her.

“Don’t think that one weekend gives you any right to interfere in my life, wolf-boy. You might be some big and bad man in your neighbourhood, but let me tell you, I have seen scarier things than you on your worst day, so you can go right ahead and bite me!” Laney slammed down the receiver. Then she picked it up again and slammed it down a few more times just for good measure. Taking a deep breath, she brushed her hair back out of her face, picked up her pen, and got back to the papers.

Her vision swam with tears she refused to let fall. Could he have made it any clearer that this weekend was never going to happen again? Obviously if he had wanted to see where this could go, he would not have told her brother. Laney had been kidding herself thinking that a little makeup and a dress would fool him into thinking of her as anything more than one of the boys. No matter what more she might want, she had to face the facts—she just wasn’t woman enough for him.

The beeping of her cell made her jump. Reaching over, she saw a text message waiting for her.

That’s one, my beta.
