“Fuc—messing up being a dad. Messing things up with you,” Dean replied without hesitation. After a second he added, “Fires.”

“But you still
do
it. You give it your best—being a daddy and being there for me. Wanting to be with me. Being afraid of something doesn’t mean that you don’t do it. I just got that,
now
.”

Dean frowned. “So… what are you saying?”

Mason smiled even though nerves were setting in. “I’m saying that I’m sorry for being so dense that I risked our relationship for something that I’d gotten wrong in my head. It doesn’t really matter if I’m afraid. I’ll still cook. And when the stable is rebuilt, I’ll go out there too.”

“You’re forgiven.”

“Just like that?”

Dean nodded. “Just like that.”

“Can we ask him? Can we, Daddy? Huh?” Wyatt whispered loudly.

“Ask what?” Mason inquired.

“Remind me never to make plans with you again,” Dean told Wyatt, narrowing his eyes playfully and dropped a kiss in the damp curls.

Wyatt giggled, the sound like balm to Mason’s frazzled heart.

“Mason, Wyatt and I want to ask you if y—”

“If you’ll stay with us forever and ever and be my daddy too!” Wyatt interrupted, bouncing a little in Dean’s lap. “Please?”

Dean chuckled. “Well, yeah. That. Though we did have a plan that involved a bit more finesse.”

Feeling as if smiling so wide might split his face in two, Mason squeezed Wyatt’s hand. “Wyatt, what do you do if you love someone?”

“Kiss them!”

“That’s right.” Mason leaned in and gave Wyatt a kiss on his cheek. The boy giggled delightedly. “I’d love to be your daddy.”

Mason then looked up at Dean and leaned in to kiss him too. A soft, quick, and beyond-perfect kiss. “I love you two more than anything in the whole world, and I’ll stay here as long as you want me.”

Dean leaned in for another quick kiss, and then he pulled Mason into his arms, Wyatt squashed between them. The fire might still rage outside, but Mason felt whole. Healed.

A Chaotic Range

Stories from the Range:
Book Seven

By Andrew Grey

Most of the time ranchhand David rescues stray cattle, but this time he and his fellow cowboys Wally and Haven save a stranded motorist. David is surprised to find his former high school classmate nearly frozen in his car. After learning that Brian Applewright’s boss fired him from his ranch for being gay, they invite him back to theirs to take a job.

David and Brian moved in different social circles at school, but working together brings them closer. However, David has a rocky history on the ranch. The foreman is his ex, and he only recently returned after a heartbreakingly unsuccessful attempt to find greener pastures. He can’t risk his heart getting close to anyone.

But on a ranch, nature has a way of forcing an issue. When a snowstorm threatens, David and Brian head out to mend a fence and round up some stray cattle. David gets injured, and they must survive in the snow, cold, and wind. It might be the start of a relationship… or the end of their lives.

In Me an Invincible Summer

By Ryan Loveless

To an outsider’s view, world-famous action star Joe Nestra lives the Hollywood dream—parties, women, and a high-profile divorce. In reality, Joe’s agent directs his public life. Those women he’s supposedly intimate with? Prearranged dates ending at the red carpet. With his assistant and best friend Derek Simmons’s help, Joe has lived safely in the closet since his divorce, choosing to let off steam with discreet male escorts rather than risk an actual boyfriend. At forty-four, he has no plans to change. Then, taking a role in a film without flashy explosions upends that.

When Joe signs on to play an early 1990s-era AIDS-stricken gay man, his internalized homophobia threatens the production. His out costar Hunter Starling won’t put up with Joe’s behavior. As the animosity between Joe and Hunter grows, saving the film means Joe must face his deepest fear. Challenges pile up from all directions, from his father disowning him to the entertainment industry’s backstabbing reaction. Amid the backlash, Joe ventures into his first gay romantic relationship, tries to help others worse off, and slowly learns how to live his life instead of just acting it.
