“I’m sorry, baby. I’m here. I’ll
help you however I can.”

“Thank you. I guess I should be
grateful. I have other options. Some people lose everything. Zach should have
the same photos I did, but the birthday cards, my piano, my jewelry box he made
me—those things are priceless. And the bowl and the clock you gave me. No
amount of insurance money could replace them.

It’s not so much the house. It’s
the memories, the things that had sentimental value, things that I could never
replace… things Zach gave me. He’d spoil me rotten every single birthday, and
it’s not so much what he gave me—well, with the exception of the piano. It’s
the fact that
he
gave them to me… just like the bowl and the clock that
you gave me. These things all meant something to me.”

“I’ll get you another bowl. I’ll
get you a thousand if it will make you feel better. And that’s the first time
you’ve acknowledged receiving that clock.”

She smiles and hugs me. “I loved
it. I even preserved one of the roses, too. It was beautiful, but you were my
married client, and I didn’t want to indulge you. Now all of that is gone,
too.”

“A bit late, but I’ll take it. I
can have both of them replaced.”

“Well, here’s something for your
ego. You were the only man to ever sleep over in that house. You were the only
man to ever sleep in my bed, and you were the only one to ever make love to me
there.”

“Are you serious?”

She nods, “I can count on one hand
how many people had been inside that house since I owned it. I think you know
all of them.”

Awww,
baby. I’m feeling
kind of special.”

“You are,” she replies. “Zach knew
how I felt about you long before I did. He teased me so much when he found out
I invited you over that night I redid your floors.”

“We only met three times, but I
remember his sense of humor.”

“What did he say?”

“The day of his surgery, I gave him
a big dose of special treatment. He told me if I kept it up, he’d put in a good
word for me.”

“He can be very crude sometimes.
You’re sure that’s all he said?”

I chuckle. “You know your brother
well.”

“Tell me. I can take it. I
promise.”

I hesitate. We’ve never really
talked about Zach in this way, not since he died.

“I’ll be okay,” she says as if
letting me know she’s comfortable talking about this.

“When he walked into my office, he
asked if I was ready to slice him open.”

“That’s so him…”

“Was he always so carefree?”

“Yes. I isolated myself from
people. But he was the opposite. So charismatic. Everyone he met loved him. He
used his lighthearted approach to make it through the difficult parts of his
life. It was nice to see him serious about Megan. That was something new that
she introduced into his life. Once he found her…” she hesitates, and as I look
into her deep pools, I feel like she wants to share something profound. “He
wanted me to have that, too. He especially wanted me to have it with you.”

Hugging her, I lean down and kiss
her lightly on her lips.

“Thank you for coming with me,” she
says. “I’ve seen enough. I don’t want to come back until the rebuilding process
has started.”

“Sure.” I look into her eyes as she
hugs me. “Be honest…are you really okay?”

She nods. “It could have been
worse. I could have lost my life. Pixie and Peaches could have been in there. I’m
lucky that I can get pictures from Zach’s house. I can rebuild and make new
memories. The most painful loss was the piano. It represented so much of what I
remembered of my entire family, but there’s nothing I can do about it.”

I never would have thought a trip
here would have done that. However, for the first time since Zach’s death, I
feel that Zoë’s going to be okay.

“You’re amazing. I’m so proud of
you right now. I could kiss you.” I do just that. After hopping onto the bike
and firing the engine, my phone rings. I kill the motor to answer.

“Hello.”

“Doctor Drake, it’s Lucas from
security.”

“Hi.” I try to be nonchalant, but
by the sound of his voice, I know something is wrong. After all this progress,
I don’t want Zoë to worry.

“We have a situation at the house.
The police are here, but I’m not sure that it’s safe for you to return.”

Chapter 12

I try to
maintain a calm voice, “Really?”

“One of the guards was shot.” Lucas
says. “He’s going to be okay. However, an intruder was shot and killed in the
process. The police found a picture of Miss Jenkins on his person.”

“Okay. Thanks for letting me know.
Give me a call when you have an update on his condition.”

“I will, Doctor Drake.”

Ending the call, I try to think
quickly. “Are you hungry?”

“I could eat something.”

“I have a great idea.”

I clench my fingers onto the
accelerator and zip through the winding road. Zoë holds me tightly. As luck
would have it, my boat is still at the marina. They left a message a few days
ago saying it was ready to be picked up, but I hadn’t gotten around to doing it
yet. A boating trip will be perfect. Zoë won’t have to know a thing, and we’ll
be safe out in the bay.

We pick up some food with some
extras at a drive-thru and head down to the marina.

“Surprised?” I laugh when we park.

“Boating? In these temperatures?”

“They called the other day, and it’s
a beautiful afternoon. There’s nothing wrong with sailing in 60° temperatures.
Trust me, you’ll love it.” I hold her hand, stopping at the office before
escorting her to the boat.

“It’s funny I haven’t been on
Abby
yet,” she says.

“We’ll have a blast. She’s a
beauty.”

She’s
your pride and joy,
isn’t she?” Zoë asks once we board the lower stern and head up the stairs.

“Apart from the businesses, she’s
the only thing I asked the judge for when I got divorced.”

“You say that like there was a lot
more.”

“There was, but I didn’t want to
fight anymore. There were very few memories with my old family on this boat. I
got her about three months before the
big surprise,
and because it was
smack in the middle of winter, we never spent any time as a family on it
together.”

“Well, thank you for sharing this
with me, Morgan Drake,” she smiles. “Now, give me the grand tour of your
Sunseeker.”

I show her the main deck first,
through the saloon, then the galley and helm and downstairs to the master cabin
and three additional guest cabins. Though it’s chilly and windy outside, I head
back out to the upper deck and flybridge area where I show her the upper deck
helm, huge tanning pad area and the dining area that seats up to ten. I don’t
know why, but I get a feeling that Zoë and I will be sharing many memories on
this boat.

We head down the stairs and back
inside in the warmth of the main deck. I run through some checks, fire up the
engine and sail out. I’m relieved once we’re out in the open water. I worry
about what happened at home, but if this asshole was there to hurt Zoë, he got
what was coming to him.

While she gets comfortable in the
cabin downstairs, I slip the firearm and the holster from my ankle into one of
the small storage compartments near the helm. Seconds after, she positions herself
in front of me, facing the view while I steer the boat.

“Any music on this boat?”

“Sure. What do you want to listen
to?”

“Anything… it’s just a little too
quiet in here.”

“There’s an iPod in the docking
station over there. I think I have it set to shuffle. Just hit the play
button.”

At this point, I have not thought
about where I’m going, but I know it’s in the opposite direction of my house.

I scan the map to look for a cove
away from this busy waterway.

“This is nice. I needed this,” she
says, standing between my thighs and looking out at the water.

“Good, I want you to be happy.”

A guitar riff of
Chris
Isaacs
Wicked Games
comes through the speakers.

“Oh God, I love this song,” Zoë
says. “I haven’t heard it in years. I’m going to put this on replay until I get
sick of hearing it.”

She clasps her fingers in mine and
kisses the back of my hand. Then she guides my hand between her flesh and her
jeans. Moments later, she releases the button and zipper and pulls her jeans
away. The long sweater she wears almost looks like it could be a dress and
before I know it, she guides my hand between her flesh and her barely there
panties. Tilting her head up, she kisses me gently on my neck then on my lips.
I return her kiss, and although I try not to get distracted by her touch, I can’t
resist slipping my fingers between her folds as she swings her ass over my
quickly-growing erection.

She turns to face me and continues
with the softest, sweetest kiss. Through the jeans I wear, she strokes my
hardened cock. I realize how rapidly this situation is changing.

“Baby—” my mind wants to stop her,
but my cock won’t allow me, and I hear the zipper of my jeans head south. She
slips her hands between my ass and underwear pushing it away and my cock
springs forward.

“Baby, you’re going to cause me to
run this boat aground.”

She laughs, completely ignoring me,
caressing my body, kissing my neck, massaging me and before I know it, I’m
peering down on her, watching as her tongue and lips travels up and down my
length in nice long strokes.

I try focusing on the boat, but she
circles my head with her tongue and works on the backside of my shaft with her
lips. Then she takes all of me into her mouth, sucking on my tip in slow and
sexy rhythmic movements, using her hand to jerk me off while swallowing me. I
find myself sinking into the chair, closing my eyes and basking in the intense
pleasure she is so eager to give.

“Oh fuck. Good, baby… suck it just
like that.”

She does this thing with her
tongue, almost like massaging my tip while still sucking hard and it starts
the—

“Holy fuck! Zoë, you have to stop.”
In addition to her almost setting me off, I open my eyes and notice I’ve come
dangerously close to running into a buoy.

“Why?” You certainly look and sound
like you’re enjoying it.” She fondles my thoroughly slippery cock in her hands,
licking and sucking me in all the right places.

“You’re going to make me have an
accident.”

“Babe, this is very simple. Stop
the boat, and drop anchor so you can bury that sweet piece of equipment you
haul around inside me.”

I can’t help but chuckle at her
words. “I can’t. It’s illegal.”

“Oh what? You’re trying to be a
good, obedient boy. Well in that case, I should probably let you focus on your
cruise while I have all the fun by myself. Sit back and enjoy yourself.”

It’s nice seeing her fun and
playful. I miss seeing her that way. I know what’s coming, so I let her have her
way. But she shocks me when she sits on the spinning chair next to me.
Extending her legs apart, she slips her fingers into her mouth and slowly
through the knitted sweater she wears, she touches herself—her breasts, her
stomach, her core. It isn’t long before she slips the crotch of the black thong
she wears aside and slowly strokes her center.

I come upon a small cove surrounded
by some cliffs, drop anchor, and switch off the boat.

I gratify myself while scrutinizing
her as she circles her fingers over her wet, swollen clit. With every second
that I watch, I become more and more aroused. Her eyes are closed, soft cries
escape her lips as her body slowly moves in a sensual sway. She bites the
inside of her lip, a soft breath escapes, and I know she’s nearing the end.

Though I am completely aware of
what’s going on at home, all I can think of right now is sex—sweet, sweet sex.
I welcome the distraction. I am beyond horny. I slip my sweater over my head.
Standing before her, I pull her hands away, pin them over her head then I
capture her sultry lips.

“Time for me to join the fun.”

“It’s about time,” she giggles.

I pull her sweater over her head
and drop it to the floor. As I draw her panties away, she gets rid of her bra.
Then hungrily, she kisses my lips. I slip my fingers into her folds. She’s
dripping wet, and while I circle her pleats, she firmly strokes my cock in her
hand.

I pull her body to the edge of the
seat, then place her legs over the arms of the chair. Moving my frame into her,
my shaft travels up and down her crease, rubbing against her clit. Pressing
hard into her, we gaze into each other’s eyes. She says nothing, but the
tremors come through her breathing.

I lift her body then walk her to
the dining table a few feet away. I shove the chair aside then place her on the
glass table.

“Lay back, baby,” I say, holding
her legs apart. Then kneeling down between her thighs, I slip my tongue into
her trench and savor the flavor of her hardened clit, sucking her, licking her
and vibrating the tip of my tongue over her.

I take absolute pleasure in
pleasuring her, and the sounds of her labored breathing and sexual cries arouse
me further. While she moans, I stroke my cock hard in my palm.

“Oh God, Morgan!”

She screams my name, and when I
feel her nails digging into my shoulders, I know she’s near the end. Rising to
my feet, I pull her body to the edge of the table and sink into her. Grasping
her hands in mine, I immerse myself into her—hard, the way I know she wants it,
plunging my tongue into her mouth, devouring her lips.

She wraps her arms around my neck
and ties her slender legs around me. I raise her frame off the table and walk
her down to the master cabin.

This started out as a sweet fuck,
but as I look into her eyes and think about the fact that someone came to my
house to hurt her—again, it’s gone way beyond that. Having her right now comes
out of a purely emotional need—a way to connect that cannot be said with words.

Our naked bodies crash onto the
bed, and I quicken the pace inside her, harder and faster.

“Oh yes, Morgan.”

I hear her gratifying cries and the
sound of my name off her lips. Then I turn her to lie on her stomach,
repeatedly pummeling her from behind, enjoying the raw sultry sounds of our
sexual indulgence.

Pulling her up to her knees, with
one of my feet grounded to the bed, I circle myself in her from the back. She
masturbates to the front.

I sit on my knees. She straddles my
hips, and her warmth surrounds me once more. She glides above me, looking deep
into my eyes. I fold my arms around her while she ties her arms around my neck,
and I enjoy her long, lingering sweet kiss.

Laying her onto her back, I then
hold her leg aside continuously slipping in and out of her. Her breathing
becomes increasingly labored and her grip on me tightens.

“Morgan, I’m coming.” Her nails
tear into my back as she calls out my name and erupts, violently coming to her
peak.

Breathless, as she calms, I move
slowly inside her, kissing her soft lips. I’m gazing into her eyes, and she’s
gazing into mine.
Wicked Games
still blares through the speakers, and she stares silently at me in
a deep long gaze. She says nothing. I know it, I feel it, something has
changed, and I can’t help but wonder as she slowly leans into me and kisses me
if she’s falling in love with me in the same way as the lyrics of the song.

Embracing her, I roll onto my back.
She is now on top, kissing me repeatedly, rotating her hips, grinding above my
arousal. I tighten my grip around her, continuing my ascension into her,
building up to my release, and at the feel of her tongue and kiss trailing down
my throat, I let go, surrounded by her warmth and bliss.

We kiss slowly as we calm and lay
with our bodies knotted. Still, that song plays, and she clutches on to me
tightly. After some time, her grip slowly releases and her heavy breaths give
way to sleep. I watch her as she slumbers. She’s beautiful. I am so deeply in
love with her. Now, all I can think about is that someone out there wants to
hurt her.

Sometime later, I get out of bed,
careful not to wake her. I wrap a towel around my hips and head up to the
galley to check my phone. I have several missed messages from Lucas, one from
Jonathan, and another from the D.A.

I know I can’t avoid this forever.
I call the D.A. and Jonathan. They both called to make certain we’re safe. I
ask Christina Hernández if she can use her influence to make sure the marine
police do not approach us while I wait this out. For now, we will be okay. Then
I follow up with Lucas.

“Hey. What’s the update?”

“The police are still here. The
intruders came in by boat. They used the neighbor’s pier and walked in along
the shoreline. Slater, the guard who was shot, saw a dinghy speed away. The
police found it abandoned in Sausalito.”

“Is the body still there?”

“Yes. The coroner is already on the
scene.”

“Who was killed?”

“The police haven’t identified him
to me yet.”

“Okay. I picked up my boat. Can you
get someone to get my bike home?”

“Yes, Doctor Drake. I’ll make
arrangements immediately.”

“We’ll stay out as long as we can.
Call me once everything has been cleaned up and the police have left.”

“I think they’ll be here for a
while, but I’ll let you know once the body’s been taken away.”

When I turn around to head
downstairs, Zoë stands behind me.

“What needs to be cleaned up? And
where are the police?”

Oh shit.
“It’s nothing,
baby. Come shower with me.” I gather our clothing. “When we’re done, we can
eat. I’m ravenous.”

“You’re lying to me. What’s going
on?”

“I told you. It’s nothing.”

“This is your idea of us being
honest with each other? If it’s nothing, you should have no problem telling me.
I need to know. Tell me.”

I wish I had been more careful, but
I’m not certain how much longer I can keep this information to myself. I have
no idea how, but Jonathan knows, and if he does, Jada most definitely knows. It’s
only a matter of time before she calls Zoë, if she hasn’t already.
