He’d not expected to see anything different about himself, and he didn’t. But it felt strange knowing he had a finger-sized piece of plastic shoved up his back passage. Even more weird was the certain knowledge that when Charles worked it out, that toy would start to buzz and hum, and no one else would be the wiser.

It was a delicious thought, tantalizing and scary at the same time. Spencer hoped he didn’t make a fool of himself.

Curious and excited by what the night ahead would hold for him, Spencer left the men’s room.

Chapter Seven

As he came closer to their table, Spencer saw Charles seated, waiting. Spencer flushed, partially from the embarrassed knowledge of what he’d just done, but also because in that moment he felt exposed. It was as if he had a neon sign flashing above his head—‘I have a butt plug up my ass’.

Spencer skittered his gaze away from Charles’ dark, knowing glance. Spencer studied the other patrons briefly, but everyone seemed engrossed either in their food or their companions. No one even cast him a single look as he walked past. Everyone was focused on their own lives and not the least interested in him. The small knot of worry that had formed in his stomach eased.

While he still felt vulnerable, now it was mostly because he knew that Charles would know he’d inserted the gift. Spencer pulled his chair back and tried valiantly to not shift his ass cheeks as he sat down. He’d thought he had succeeded until he met Charles’ look.

The grin that spread across his partner’s face said more than words could convey.

Determined to act as naturally as possible, Spencer opened his menu.

“You’ve eaten here before,” he said. “What would you recommend?”

“Their chargrilled steaks are mouth-watering,” Charles replied, seemingly willing to play along. “And their potato salad is excellent, too. They also do a very good chocolate mousse for dessert.”

“That sounds good. I’m a big fan of potato—”

A very soft humming started. Spencer froze as the buzzing in his ass took him by surprise. Even though he’d been expecting it, the actual second it began nearly stole his breath away. It might have been Spencer’s imagination, but he could hear the very softest of sounds as the mechanics whirred. After a heart-stopping second, though, he realized it was such a low noise that no one, not even Charles opposite him, could possibly hear.

But the sensations, holy fuck, they were not something to blithely ignore.

Charles looked deeply satisfied. Spencer had to look away and collect himself. He shifted on the chair. About to speak, he found he couldn’t. His throat closed over as the plug pressed deeper against the wall of his ass. The vibration rocked him and he needed to clench his thighs and ass just to stop the shiver that threatened to escape.

Relaxing his muscles, he took a breath and cast his glance about the room again. It was almost as if they were invisible. No one paid them the least mind. It was strange that no one understood what was going on, but it helped Spencer feel more comfortable.

“The steak and potato salad sounds delicious. I’m ready to order,” Spencer said. He ignored the way his cheeks had flushed and, feeling brave again, lifted his chin to look at Charles.

His partner didn’t appear cocky or arrogant, there was no smugness to his stare. Indeed, Spencer thought for a moment he might detect a bit of nerves, or concern, in the way Charles roamed his eyes over him, seeming to search for an indication that everything really was fine. This care, the manner in which Charles wasn’t some brash, obnoxious Dominant, helped Spencer feel even more at ease.

Spencer noticed Charles moved one arm, his hands hidden. He thought Charles might have placed something in his pocket, but then Charles put his hands in view on the table. There was no remote. Spencer surmised that Charles had probably tucked it away.

“Excellent choice,” Charles said.

Spencer frowned, thinking for a moment he was talking about Spencer’s decision on the food. But then he understood the double entendre. Spencer was a little surprised they could sit out here in public and discuss such a thing. That no one could possibly be the wiser.

It was a heady thing.

Charles grabbed the attention of the waiter. They both ordered steaks with potato salad and some water.

“I’m glad you took the plunge,” Charles said.

The words shifted Spencer’s focus. The vibrations from the plug were small, but it was a steady hum. Heat built and his cock was at half-mast. He could feel the sensitization begin to unfurl across his body. He needed to jitter his fingers and curl his toes. Spencer could feel how his skin had tightened, that even the constriction of his clothing was adding to his sensory overload.

And they’d only just ordered.

It was akin to having music on in the background. You mightn’t be conscious of it every second, but a particular riff in the music, or the chorus line, would stand out and you’d become lost in it. Spencer would have enjoyed nothing better than to strip naked, press his back to the wall and fuck himself deeper onto the plug, to really get himself worked up and strive for a breathtaking climax.

But that wasn’t an option right now.

“I wasn’t sure,” Spencer admitted when he could finally focus enough to answer Charles. “This isn’t exactly what I’d had in mind when I considered dabbling in the scene. But having it offered, especially in this way, where we can keep our privacy but still indulge… It was too good to pass up.”

“There’s plenty of other games like this we could play,” Charles said.

Spencer’s attention riveted to him.

Charles leaned in, his elbows on the table. He had lowered his voice, deepened it. Something about his tone sent a thrill down Spencer’s spine.

Intrigued, he moved forward, eager to hear more.

“Like what?”

“I think some of them would take time for you to consider and digest,” Charles warned. He softened his tone further so there was no chance anyone passing by could hear. “But what if I told you that for an evening, or just a meal, you couldn’t speak unless I gave you permission? Or maybe I’d insist you had to remain on my left and in my field of vision at all times?”

Spencer’s first instinct was to arch up, to chafe at such unfair restrictions. But before he said anything, he forced himself to think.

“I’d have to focus almost entirely upon you for the designated time,” Spencer reasoned.

Charles nodded. “As I would you. This isn’t about some stupid trap, to bait you and make you fail. This is about control. About following rules and both of us winning in the outcome. Tonight is an easy reward, it’s quite clear how by accepting my gift there is immediate repayment. But there’s an equal pleasure from delaying it.”

“So by keeping in your line of sight, it’s not about following you mindlessly around, but more a matter of us both controlling our actions and constantly being aware of one another.”

“Exactly,” Charles said. “Or not allowing you to talk unless I give permission, that’s certainly about me having control, but it’s also about awareness, compliance. Unless we were at a very specific party—and especially at this time I think that unlikely—it’s not like you’d have to be obvious. As long as you could see me and I knew you were watching, I could do something as simple as nod, or tap a finger to my chin, something discreet that we’d agreed upon. That would be your indication it was all right.”

“I think those are things we could work toward,” Spencer admitted. He looked up as the waiter approached the table with a jug of chilled water and two glasses. Instinctively, Spencer leaned back in his seat as the waiter deposited his items. This pressed Spencer’s cheeks down into the table and once again his ass thrummed to life.

He sucked in a breath. Blushing, he cast a smile to the waiter, who had glanced at him. Charles took the bottle of water and poured some for them both.

“Thank you,” Charles said to the man who then left.

“This isn’t as simple as I thought it would be,” Spencer said with a grin. “I’ve, um, experimented before. This is more intense.”

“It’s because even though you know you’re safe, there’s the mental reality that you’re out in the open. You know I know, and no one else does, but this is psychologically different to trying it out in the safety of your home.”

Spencer nodded. What Charles said made sense. This was a lot more intense than anything he’d tried before. Each time he moved his legs, or shifted his weight, or even turned to glance at something around him, it added to the pressure in his ass. The slow build grew within him. He decided that only by keeping his mind busy could he last through the meal and not embarrass himself.

“So did anything exciting happen to you today?” Spencer asked, growing desperate to divert his mind.

Charles held his gaze for a moment. Then this slow, beautiful, hungry smile blossomed across his face. When he answered, Spencer felt relieved and grateful that Charles was willing to follow his lead.

“I’ve had a very satisfying day so far today,” Charles replied. “Work was normal, we did a few jobs and left early because we’d managed our time well and there were no hidden surprises. I did a bit of grocery shopping, laid in some supplies and had plenty of time to think and plot about a new relationship I’m hoping will become a big focus in my life.”

Spencer smiled. “I’m not sure you having time to plan is a good thing,” he chuckled. “You’re already dangerous enough to my sanity.”

“Being sane or normal is highly overrated,” Charles insisted. “I know we need to talk, but I’m hoping we can do so in depth later. Are you all right with that?”

Spencer nodded. “I’d like that too, but I agree now isn’t the best time. I’m glad we’re here, though, and that—” He sucked in a sharp breath, the air hissing through his teeth. Spencer glanced to Charles’ hands and realized that they’d dipped below the surface of the table.

The hum in his ass had increased in speed and velocity. What had been a faint, almost comforting buzz had been turned up a notch. It took Spencer a minute to acclimate to the harder intensity. He swallowed his words, his brain scrambling to keep control of the situation.

“So my day has been enlightening,” Charles summarized with a wicked grin. He lifted his hands up then steepled his fingers. He rested his chin against them and studied Spencer intently. “How was your day, Spence?”

“Enlightening?” Spencer repeated, finding it difficult to catch up. “Yeah, that’s a good word. Also surprising—my day has certainly been full of surprises.”

“Really?” Charles said, the picture of innocence. “I do hope they were good ones?”

The waiter seemed to appear out of nowhere. He’d not noticed the man anywhere in the vicinity until he was right there at Spencer’s elbow. He placed plates in front of Charles and Spencer then offered them both a large shaker to crack pepper over their meat if they chose.

Spencer shook his head silently. His cock strained against the seam of his trousers, his ass felt like it was dancing, vibrating against the base of his seat. It took all his concentration not to wriggle where he sat. He wanted to press the toy up against his prostate and come, screaming, for all to see.

Charles took the shaker, added some pepper. When the waiter had the condiment again he left once more. Charles picked up his cutlery and waited with an air of anticipation for Spencer.

“Despite what it seems, you are in complete control here,” Charles said in a low tone. “You just say the word and we can leave, any time.”

Spencer straightened his spine and sat up in his chair. This was intense, yes, but he could deal, he knew it.

“I’m fine,” he insisted.

Spencer picked up his knife and fork and took a bite of the potato salad. Charles had been right, it was excellent.

“Yes, most of the surprises I’ve had so far today have been wonderful.” Spencer answered Charles’ earlier question as if there’d been no gap, no increase in the song singing up his ass. “Though there are a few that still haven’t come to completion, so it will be interesting to see how they end.”

“Most ends are really just a beginning,” Charles said with a knowing air.

Spencer smirked. “Oh, I’m sure we’ve already passed the first few stages,” Spencer said. “But I like the thought that we’re constantly starting and learning more as we go.”

Cutting into his steak, Spencer sampled the tender meat.

It was delicious.

Charles surreptitiously watched Spencer as they ate their meal. He got a feeling of power and deep satisfaction knowing that his partner had a toy inserted in his ass, and that he controlled the pace of their game-playing. He could tell when Spencer focused on something else the pleasure he received would still be present, but fade into the background. Charles had to hand it to the man, he had plenty of pluck.

It had been a leap of faith for Charles. He knew how Spencer felt about retaining his privacy in his sexuality. Deep inside, he was grateful and humbled that Spencer had chosen to trust him in this intimate way. He hadn’t wanted to push the envelope too early on, but Charles also believed strongly in a ‘start as you mean to carry on’ philosophy.

It would be a disservice to them both if he was anything less than honest, or pretended to be something he was not.

When they were both almost finished with their plates, Charles discreetly dipped a hand to his pocket. Without glancing down and giving himself away, he used his fingernail to carefully ease the dial up one more notch. This time, Spencer hadn’t been mid-sentence, but Charles studied him carefully. Spencer paused and he stopped working his jaw, chewing the mouthful of food he had.

Heat spread through Charles’ chest and pride welled within him.

Spencer shifted in his seat, just with small, tender movements that wouldn’t grab anyone’s attention. Charles only saw them because he was watching so closely.

Spencer swallowed, but didn’t continue with his meal.

They stared intently at each other, sharing something no one else knew about, that the growing roomful of people could not possibly share. To Charles’ mind it increased the intimacy between himself and Spencer. He hoped his partner felt the same.
