Jerking her from his cock, he nearly
moaned in pain. She reached for his cock again, wrapping her
fingers around him just as he pulled her up off the floor. Instead
of tossing her onto the bed and fucking her, which had been his
plan, he pulled her to him and buried his mouth over her sopping
pussy.

She tasted of the sweetest nectar. Her
scent drove his cat wild with the need to taste her too, and when
Micah rolled her around, pushing her to the bed, he let his cat
take him. He growled at her when she tried to close her legs to
him.

Let him have his fill.
Then I’m going to take mine
. She nodded
and spread her legs for him. The cat, his cat, drove into her like
he was starved. Her first climax had Micah grinning. His cat was
very pleased with what he’d done.

He ate her, using his tongue to bring
her twice more before he licked her inner thigh. The wolf, Steven,
had told him that once they were together the cat would want his
mark on her as well. So when he bit into her thigh, Micah didn’t
even try to stop him. He’d do it his way or harder. This way was
the best. When he finished, Micah took his body back and stood over
Reggie. She lay there panting, blood on her thigh still.

Are you all right?” She
nodded and spread her legs for him. “I want to take you from
behind. Fuck you like my cat will yours.”

She moved to the edge of the bed and
he helped her stand. Taking her mouth with his, Micah could taste
himself on her. Hungry for her, he turned her around and told her
to bend. The view of her ass had him licking his lips to have
her.

Please. I need you.”
Nodding, he moved up behind her. She was hot. Her pussy was soaking
wet both from her juices and that of his cat’s tongue. Sliding into
her took his breath away, and he nearly came when Reggie backed her
ass into his cock.

Fucking her this way, he could reach
under her and slide his fingers along her clit. She was so wet his
cock slid easily into her pussy. She cried out twice, her release
quick and hard. Leaning over her more until her head was on the
bed, Micah fucked her as hard as he could, holding her hips firmly
until she screamed her release. Micah sank his teeth into her
shoulder, bringing her again and having him roar out his own climax
too.

Reggie was sitting with her brother on
the lawn when she heard someone come up behind her. She was just
turning when Fred spoke softly to her. She smiled as she turned her
brother to the man who had come to visit.

I’ve been working with
him a little bit. His muscles needed a good workout. Didn’t they,
buddy?” Fred picked up Boyd’s hand and gave him a slap on it. “He’s
coming along just fine.”

You work here?” Nodding,
he sat on the bench she’d been near and patted the seat beside him.
“I had no idea you were working with Boyd either. I’m glad. He
seems to like you.”

It was the condition of
that husband of yours. Boyd had to like me.” They seemed to know
each other. Boyd stared at the man as if he did anyway. She’d
noticed earlier that her brother seemed to focus better on her too.
“It’s the attention he’s getting. It’s not just coming from
you.”

I don’t understand. You
mean that they…I know that they weren’t doing their job at the
other place. And, frankly, I can’t read any more about the place
and what other people are saying. But you think that this place is
that much better?” He told her to look around, so she did…first at
the lawn and the well-kept bushes and trees. Then she noticed the
people, as well as the residents.

The garden was being tended by two
men. As she watched, it occurred to her that one was an employee,
the other a resident. The resident was hoeing as the man standing
beside him talked. He worked as well, but he mostly talked to the
person using the hoe. The garden looked amazing too. The pumpkins
were huge and bright orange. There were some flowers too. Dark
against the fallen leaves of the trees around them.

There was another couple of people
walking along a long row of trees. They were picking up some things
and studying them, and putting back others. When something else was
found—she thought it was a pinecone—the person carrying the large
bag jumped with joy and clapped. The small treasure was put into
the bag that was looking heavy. Before she turned back to Fred, she
noticed another group of people.

They come out here every
day with them. Some of the dogs are older; not much use, I guess,
to the families that turned them into the shelter. But those people
are certainly enjoying them.” Reggie nodded as Fred continued. “See
the woman in the wheelchair with the dog in her lap? She had been
combative, they told me. Wouldn’t let a soul touch her for no
amount of money. Then the dog came and rested his head on her lap,
and she put her hand out to no doubt shove him away.”

What happened?” She
watched the woman stroke the dog, and he seemed to be enjoying it
greatly. When he yawned, huge with his sharp teeth coming through,
so did the woman. “He’s a beautiful dog.”

That he is. But in answer
to your question, as soon as she reached down to shove him away,
like she had every other thing in her life, the dog, probably
knowing that he was set to be turned away, licked her fingers. They
said it was love after that. Him for her and her for him.” The dog
looked around when someone came close and even from where she was,
Reggie heard him growl low. “He gets a little nervous when a
stranger comes too close. But he’ll settle again for her in a
minute.”

He did too. The golden dog laid his
head back down and closed his eyes. That was when it occurred to
her. “He’s not a real dog, is he?”

No. He’s a shifter like
you. The dog is…what you might call a changeling. He can shift into
whatever is needed. And he’s her grandson. Comes to see her every
day after school. Sits where he’d never been able to before because
of her illness.”

She thought it was the most touching
thing she’d ever heard. “Will Boyd benefit from a dog? Or
something? I don’t know…will a dog let him near me being what I
am?”

Probably not. We’ll have
to find him a puppy or a little cat. Something that can grow used
to you both. That boy, I’ll have a talk with him. Maybe he knows
someone that can come and sit with young Boyd here and give him a
try.” She nodded and then turned to Fred. “You are happy now,
aren’t you?”

I am.” She looked at her
brother as she continued. “Micah and I are looking into adoptions.
Not very hard, but looking. I’m still getting my feet under me
about this shifting thing. I’m not…it’s a lot to get used
to.”

It is. You not being born
to it would have a little bit of adjustment time.” She nodded and
took Boyd’s hand when he hit her with it. “He’s happy too, wouldn’t
you say?”

Yes. I only just realized
how unhappy he must have been before. He was always so…not excited
to be away from the place he was at, but he’s not so unhappy when I
have to take him in.” She stood up when Fred did. Her time was up,
and Boyd had to go to work. Physical therapy was helping him with a
lot more than his muscles tightening up. It was giving him a
healthy glow as well. “You’re not still in the woods, are you,
Fred?”

No, miss. I’m in an
apartment. That husband of yours, he and his family have helped me
out of that too. I have a nice place I’m living. He even made it so
I could go and collect some of my son’s and his family’s things.
Got to bury them proper like, too.” She knew that. Micah had told
her how bad it was at the pack and he’d nearly killed the new alpha
himself.

I’m reopening the diner
too. Expanding it. Instead of being run by me, however, I’ve hired
a few of the people on the streets to help out. It’s sort of a
starting point for a few. Or a restarting point, I guess you could
say.”

I know a couple of people
that might be able to benefit from that kind of hand up.” She
nodded, trusting him to bring her good people. “Miss Reggie, what
are you going to do about the trial? I heard it’s in a few
days.”

Tomorrow. I’m not worried
about it.” But she was, and she was pretty sure he knew she was.
“They only want me to tell them what happened. To those men.
I’ve…I’m just going to go in there and tell them what happened. All
of it.”

You do that.” When he
hugged her, just a quick one that hardly had them touching, he
looked down at her brother as he spoke to her. “You’ve been through
more than most would think they could survive. I’m thinking that if
they fuck around with you, you’ll let them know just what sort of
woman they’re screwing with.”

Reggie laughed. “I will at that. And
it’s funny you say that. Howie…Grandda said the same thing just
this morning. And Grandma, albeit a little cleaner, said it too.
Gracie and I are going to be just fine.”

As she drove home, she thought about
Gracie. She’d had a long talk with Micah last night about calling
her “Mom.” He was sure she’d be thrilled, but Reggie wasn’t so
sure. They got along just fine and all, but having someone you’ve
only known for a short period of time calling you “Mom” was a lot
to take on.

Reggie pulled into the mall parking
lot next to her husband’s big truck. They were going to go
Christmas shopping…something she’d not been able to afford to do in
a long time.

Do you have your list?”
He nodded and patted his pocket. Then his other pocket. And ended
with the pockets on his pants. “Oh Micah, you had one job. One
single job. And you fucked that up.”

She wasn’t mad at him. His mind had
been on his new job more than it had on anything else. She was sure
that he loved it. Working with his brother all day had even brought
them closer. But his mind was not on what he was supposed to be
doing.

I had it.” She nodded and
pulled out her own list and handed his to him. It was a copy that
she was glad she’d made. “Thanks. And so you know, I noticed that
you marked your name off mine. Not very nice of you. I’m allowed to
buy my new wife a gift if I want to.”

We had a deal.” Micah
just grinned at her. “Micah, we agreed that we’d wait until after
this mess was over and get us something. You said a nice long trip.
I’m looking forward to that trip.”

Me too. And we’ll go. But
it’s our first Christmas together and I want to make it special.”
If it got any more special around their house, she’d have to move
out to the servant’s quarters. The house was decorated for the
holidays, and it seemed that if there was an inch of space to be
found, someone stuck something Christmassy in it. She growled at
him when he kissed her on the forehead. “Oh, Grandda and Grandma
are going to meet us here later. They have something to show
us.”

What?” He shrugged. “Did
you happen to peek? You know how I hate surprises…especially from
your grandda. He has a way of…I will never, for as long as I live,
trust another
empty
box on the counter again.”

Micah laughed and she grinned. Coming
home from the diner one night, she’d found a box on the counter. It
had a note on it that simply said trash. Picking it up to take it
to the outside cans, she screamed when the thing moved in her hand.
It had been filled with small ducklings, all of them asleep until
she’d woke them when she moved it. He’d laughed for nearly twenty
minutes when she’d called to tell him about it. The ducklings were
now swimming around the pond that she’d only recently
discovered.

He loves you.” As if that
explained it all. But she was working on revenge with him. She
didn’t have one yet, but she was going to figure one out. The old
turd had gotten the best of her too many times. It was nearly six
that evening when they all sat down to dinner.

Chapter 12

What happened when you
discovered you were locked in the car with the two of them?” Joey
wanted to get up and slap the man. Or tear his throat out. It was
the ninth time he’d asked Reggie that, and he could tell she was
getting pissed. He thought about telling the man to back off again,
but he could see that she was nearly ready to come over the desk at
him. Joey thought, fuck it, he’d been warned.

You know what?” Joey
grinned when Reggie stood up. “You want to know what happened? I’ll
tell you. Again. And I swear by all that’s holy that if you ask me
that stupid question once more I’m going to get up, find my gun
they made me leave out there, and shoot you with it. And if you
think that’s a threat, then you might be a little smarter than I
thought.”

The judge cleared his throat, and Joey
knew the man was trying not to laugh at her again. The last time
had nearly unleashed her wrath. Instead the man took a deep breath
and waved at her to proceed.

I was not aware of whose
van I was locked into. There was a black hood over my eyes. And
yes, I did try to remove it, but my hands were tied. Had I known
who was driving the van that had kidnapped me, I more than likely
would have been more terrified than I was.” When the other man
started to speak again, Reggie raised her hand and glared. “You ask
me that again and I swear to you, I’m coming for you.”
