She and Donna were always each other’s emergency
phone call in case either one needed to get out of a date fast
and they needed to pretend there was an emergency. Good
thing they made this contingency plan, too, because they had
both needed the out on occasion. It was particularly useful in
the dreaded blind date scenario.
“You got it. What are you going to wear?”
Shit. Grace had not thought that far ahead. “Maybe the
black velvet top I leant to you for your first night with Sam.”
It seemed to work well for Donna in the romance

department.
“Good idea. Men love velvet on a woman. Makes them
want to touch us,” Donna agreed.
Grace sincerely hoped it made men want to undress
women as well as touch them. “Alright. Let me get back to
work. I want to get out of here early so I can go home and
change and then call Guy. I’ll call you later.”
“I’ll be waiting. This is so exciting!”
That was an understatement. Grace might need surgery
to remove the smile from her face she was so damn happy.
She would cancel tomorrow’s therapy appointment, too. This
just proved she was right and Joyce her former therapist was
totally wrong. Grace
did
need a man in her life to make her
happy and what was more, she had found him and happiness
without losing an ounce of weight.
And nothing made Grace happier than being right,
maybe a new outfit, or a new man, but besides that, nothing.

“I am really glad you called me, Grace.” Guy smiled at her
and sipped at the glass of wine she had poured for him from
the bottle she brought to his apartment. She had splurged. It
was a good bottle, costing double what she usually spent for
her and the girls to drink. But this was an occasion.
She smiled and positioned herself in the most attractive
pose she could manage on his too deep and too soft sofa. The
thing was like sinking into a waterbed. He did not know it,
but he was extremely lucky the red wine had remained
mostly in the glass when she sat and found herself suddenly
engulfed.
“I had thought you, me, and your friends Jade and
Donna could have hung out together for a few drinks, but
this is good, too.”
You had to love a man who liked your friends. There
was no possible way she could date anyone who didn’t like
Donna or their other good friend Belinda and visa versa. It
was an unwritten rule among them. Jade was new to the mix,
having just started hanging out with them recently when she
began working with Donna, but Grace magnanimously
included her now. “I am so glad you like my friends. It
means a lot to me.”
He smiled. “Oh, I like them. Don’t you worry about that.
I hope to get to know them a lot better, too…along with you,
of course.”
Grace smiled. Wasn’t he sweet?
“So, tell me what you like.” Guy ran one finger up and
down Grace’s sleeve.
Donna was totally right. Men did like touching velvet.
“You seem to know what I like already. So far,
everything you have given me is perfect.” Grace could not
keep it in any longer. She had to let him know she had
figured out his secret.
Guy frowned. “Everything I’ve given you?”

Grace smiled sweetly at him. “It’s alright, Guy. You
don’t have to pretend any longer. I know you are my secret
admirer. I know the flowers, the candy, the coffee and
croissant and all those sweet emails were from you…and the
sexy instant messages, too.”
Guy’s eyebrows shot up. “Oh. Well…did you really like
all that stuff I did? Even the sexy instant messages?”
Grace slid, nearly swam, a bit closer to him on the
couch. “Yes. I loved
everything
.”
He grinned at her. “Good, good. But of course I want to
know more about you. So tell me, what do you like?”
“Well, I love to shop. I mean everywhere. Not just the
big department stores, but little antique stores, flea markets,
garage sales, pawn shops. I love going to karaoke and I’m
really good at it, too. The only time I’m really happy is when
I’m singing.” Grace took in a breath to continue on with her
list of likes and dislikes when Guy touched her shoulder.
He smiled at her and ran a finger down her face. “You
are so funny. That’s all really interesting, babe. But I was
talking about sex. What do you like to do in bed?”
Grace closed her mouth when she noticed it had popped
open at his forwardness. But then again, they had already
had cyber sex together. It’s not like they had not already
shared an incredible orgasm or two.
“Um, I don’t know. The usual stuff I guess.” She
shrugged. She remembered the way he described on instant
messenger what incredible things he would do to her if they
were together and added. “I like the same things as you.”
Guy’s eyes lit up. “Really. That’s good to know. Hey,
you know what I just bought?”
Her interest piqued at the renewal of the shopping topic.
“What?”
“A sex swing. I haven’t installed it yet. They tell you it
is really important to install the hook correctly, but I think
it’s all bullshit just so you can’t sue them if you do it wrong.
They have to cover their ass. We know how that is. We’re
both lawyers.”

She nodded, covering her ignorance until she decided to
simply confess the truth. “What’s a sex swing?”
His eyes opened wide and he laughed. “You don’t
know? It’s a swing that hangs from the ceiling. You get in it
and I can put you in pretty much any position I want while I
fuck you. There’s this one move called the Chinese Basket
where I spin you around while I’m in you. I’m dying to try
that.”
Grace considered herself a modern woman when it came
to sex. After all, she did come prepared with her own
condoms. But this might be more than she could handle.
Would being with her dream lover/secret admirer mean
having to be hung from the ceiling and spun while impaled
on her lover’s penis?
She realized he was watching her expectantly, waiting
for a reaction or comment or something. “Oh, that sounds
like fun.” Good thing she was a Thespian in school and
could act with the best of them.
“It will be my pleasure to show it to you once I get it
installed.” Then he cringed. “There’s a weight limit listed on
the box, though. I’ll have to check that. You might be too
big. That’s okay though. It comes with an instruction book
and there are positions to do it with me in the swing, too.”
Grace was momentarily speechless. She finally
managed, “Oh, that’s good.”
“Yeah. It’s going to be a blast. The last girl I told about
it said, ‘you can’t install that, what’s your landlord gonna
say about the big fucking hook in the ceiling?’ Know what I
told her?”
Grace shook her head in disbelief.
“That I’d tell him it was a plant hook! Isn’t that genius?
It helps having this brain of mine sometimes.”
Again Grace could do nothing but nod. How could
someone be so different in person than they were online?
She did not have time to ponder the phenomenon further
as he put down his glass as well as hers and pressed one knee
between her legs. Then his mouth was on hers and she tasted

the wine on both of their tongues.
She swallowed her surprise at the sudden move, which
got even bolder as he grabbed her breast in one hand and
squeezed.
He lifted his head and, just when she thought he couldn’t
shock her any more than he already did, said, “You know
what I would love right now?”
She shook her head again.
“If you would blow me, babe.”
A bit cruder than she expected, but he had written his
favorite thing to do to a woman was oral sex. Maybe he was
thinking of the good old sixty-nine so they could cum
together. That might be nice, actually.
She smiled and ran a hand up and down his arm this
time. “I’ll do you if you do me.” She raised a brow and
waited.
Guy laughed. “Oh, no, babe. Sorry. That is one thing
Guy does not do.”
Grace frowned. Besides the fact he was referring to
himself in the third person, which was a bit creepy, he was
saying the exact opposite of what he said to her online. “I
thought you loved to go down on women. It was your
favorite thing to do.”
He shook his head. “No way. Never have, never will.
But I’m well endowed enough to get the job done when the
time comes, don’t you worry about that.”
And thank god for the contingency plan, because
Donna’s emergency phone call came just when she needed it
most. She grabbed for her purse and the cell phone that
would save her like a passenger on a sinking ship grabbed
for the last life preserver. “Hello?”
Donna said in her ear, “Help, I have a terrible
emergency. Can you come and save me?” Grace heard her
giggle.
“What, Donna? You have an emergency? You need me
over there right away? But I’m out at the moment… Oh.
Okay, I’ll be right over.”

She disconnected over the sound of Donna saying, “You
better call me back the second you are out of his sight!”
“I am so sorry, Guy, but my friend Donna has a big
problem and she really needs me.”
“Donna? Why don’t you call her up and have her come
over here. We can help her together,” Guy suggested.
“Thanks. That is a sweet offer, but I better go. Talk to
you at work.” Grace was backing toward the door when she
spotted the bottle of wine she had brought. “You know, she
sounded as if she needed this. I’m just gonna grab it. Bye.
Thanks.”
Grace did not believe in running anywhere. She did not
even cross the city streets in front of traffic fast. She figured,
being a lawyer, if they hit her, she would sue them. That was
her theory. But she left Guy’s apartment, and his building,
faster than she had moved anywhere in a very long time.
She had Donna re-dialed before her key hit the car
ignition.
“What the hell happened?” Donna demanded upon
answering the phone. She could have just said hello instead.
“He’s a perv,” Grace answered.
“What? Why? What did he do?” Donna sounded
shocked and actually, a bit intrigued.
“He wanted to hang me from the ceiling in a sex swing
and spin me around while we did it!”
“What? I don’t even know what a sex swing is.” Grace
heard Donna turn to her boyfriend and ask, “Sam, have you
ever heard of a sex swing? It hangs on the ceiling and…”
Grace heard Sam’s response interrupt Donna. “I know
what it is. Who the fuck is on that phone that is using one?”
Then she heard Donna answer, “Grace,” and it was all
she could do to not pull the cork out of the wine bottle with
her teeth and take a swig. What had she been reduced to? All
to get a damn date for Valentine’s Day.
“I don’t care if Sam is there. I’m coming over,” Grace
declared into the phone.
“You bet you are! I want to hear the rest,” Donna agreed.

Grace threw the car into drive. “I’ll be right over, and
I’ve got wine.”

The next day, the foul February weather matched Grace’s
dark mood perfectly. If fighting the chill rain was not enough
to ruin her day, the memory of the prior night and how her
secret admirer was a perv sure was.
How could she have been so wrong about her secret
admirer? He was so sweet this past week, with the gifts and
emails and the one incredible sexual interlude they had
together. When in real life, he was one step away from being
a sexual deviant!
Grace dumped her giant sack of a purse on the floor next
to her desk and flung her large framed body into the chair
with a deep frustrated sigh. And then she noticed the gift box
waiting on her desk. She stared at it as if it might bite her.
Never in her life had she been unhappy to see a present
meant for her…until now.
What could be inside? Judging from the size of the box,
and her newfound knowledge of her formerly secret
