In a second I bolted out of the room and to my parents.
They started screaming and closed their eyes.
“Mom, dad, It’s just me.
Leslie.”
They slowly looked up and gulped.
“What’s going on?
Your eyes are completely red!” my mom asked crying.
“Just trust me.
Stay here and stay safe.
I’ll protect you.”
And I ran back out and
down the stairs.
The werewolves had become wolves.
The vampires eyes had become the same red as my mom saw in mine, and Sondra the only fairy had a glowing aura around her.
And the kitchen, the whole floor of the house had become a disaster.
Walls broken into, couches thrown
across the room, broken glass everywhere.
But the rest had left.
It was only us and Sondra who had decided to side with us.
“Are you guys okay?”
I asked running up to them.
“Yes!”
Galen glared.
I’ve never seen a face so full of hate and anger displayed on
anyone’s
face in my life.
It didn’t match his personality with his blonde hair and sparkling eyes.
But his eyes were red right now too.
I picked a shard of glass up and saw that my eyes were no longer red.
“What now?”
I asked.
“We clean this place up as much as possible before we let your parents come down.”
Loren said.
“Sondra can you look after them when we leave?
We need to get back and inform our clan.
And the
Riccolis
please stay here safe.
A-and
thank you
.
For everything”
I hugged each one in turn and kissed rifle on the cheek.
“Hang in there.”
I whispered in his ear.
“Sondra,
” I
said.
I handed her my phone.
“
Carson’s
number is in here.
Call it if you need anything.”
“Thanks Leslie,” she smiled at me.
And I couldn’t help but smiling back at this beautiful girl.
I took a very long time to clean up the house.
We got rid of all the glass.
Left the table as If
It
had been when I first stepped into this house.
The living room was restored to its original state.
The walls we couldn’t fix.
We decided that Sondra would get my parents to leave the heartbreak of me leaving again.
She would also call us if she needed any immediate help.
Carson wrapped his arm around me, and we hung our heads, walking out the door.
The last thing I saw was Alijondra trying to hold back screaming parents.
Car pulling out of the drive.
And my heart a stone.
We headed back to the airport all in silence.
This was the horror of reality.
It was like breathing water.
The day seemed empty, dull and full of depression even though it was crowded.
I drowned out every single voice.
Boarded the plane.
Held my head against the cold window.
Hugged myself.
Pushed the world away.
The sinking feeling as the plane landed.
And the moment stepping off the plane.
The touch of Carson helping me back into the car.
The one he has shipped back and forth every time he flies somewhere.
And then back in the dorm.
Lying motionless on my bed.
Staring at two bright dots.
Carson’s
eyes.
Leaning over me.
“Carson,
” I
breathed.
“Promise you won’t ever leave me.”
His beautiful self
lay
down beside me.
And kissed me.
And held me.
And loved me.
Vowed the rest of his life with me.
And I let life slip away until the next day.
“Leslie.”
It was
Loren’s
voice coming at me. “We lost all your clothes and have been working hard to cover everything up with the school.
But here
’
s this.”
She held a shirt baby blue blouse dress out at me and black combat boots.
“What are we going to, a wedding?”
I asked.
“No,
it’s
all we could find.”
She
said.
“Okay,
” I
said grudgingly getting up.
“Loren you’re my best friend you know that right? “
“Thanks Leslie so are you.” She told me.
The light clothes looked strange after my long period of darks.
But to have new shoes felt amazing.
Dimitri, Jeremy, Regan, Carson, and Loren all waited at the door for me.
None of their parents or people they knew back at the clan would answer their phones.
But we were going over there today.
“Are you okay?”
Regan asked giving me a brotherly hug.
“Yeah I’m fine, thanks.”
All the boys kindly waited for me in there dark jeans and dark tee’s as usual. In truth I was very thankful for my friends, all of them; they felt like my only comfort zone and a family I never knew.
Carson held my hand out to the lot.
The ground was wet from the rain last night.
Today the school closed down and everyone would be heading home with their parents.
“One second.”
I told them.
I ran back into the dorm and grabbed my Cody Simpson suitcase, I stowed it in the back of the car.
Worry was slowly setting in as to why
no one
would answer.
Finally we made it through the forest and out to the trail that led there.
When we got out I smelt smoke.
Like the beach bonfires they had always made.
Needles crunched under my feet.
A branch ripped my blue dress. But when I stepped out my fingers dug into whoever was beside me.
As the whole
shoreline was an orange abyss of flames.
